But at least she doesn’t have to live with him. Women’s Rights In Islam Update: “Divorce plea rejected, but alimony raised,” from the Khaleej Times, with thanks to Sr. Soph:
ABU DHABI “” The Federal Supreme Court has rejected a plea for divorce by a wife who was beaten, cheated and dumped by her husband after 21 days of marriage. The court granted the wife a Dh2,000 monthly alimony, while quashing a previous verdict forcing her to return home and be obedient to her husband.
Omaya Abdulazeez filed a lawsuit before the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance, demanding a monthly alimony, divorce and all her rights from the abusive husband Husam Alyan. She claimed that after the marriage, her husband refused to support her financially, beat her up and kicked her out of his house, all because she did not accept his misbehaviour, including having sex outside marriage. However, the husband filed a counter suit demanding that his wife be forced to return home and be obedient to him.
