Jihad Watch

Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

D.C. Watson: The Council on American Islamic Relations: Just plain bad for America

Nov 7, 2006 10:18 am By Robert Spencer

D. C. Watson responds to Ahmed Bedier.

This column is in response to an article posted on Jihad Watch one day ago, entitled “CAIR’s Ahmed Bedier stops by Jihad Watch to tell me no one is reading Jihad Watch.”

Mr. Bedier and his colleagues at the Council on American Islamic Relations should consider this piece yet another invitation to stop their continual bellyaching, badgering, and race-baiting, and finally step onto a national stage to explain their organization’s activities.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) has done as much, if not more, than anyone else to impede the integration of Muslims into American culture. Its officials also appear to be far more comfortable harrassing Americans who have voiced their opinions of Islam in public than they are in going face to face in a debate with anti-jihadists.

Another CAIR official, Hussam Ayloush, on his own website, recently went on a name calling campaign against Andrew Whitehead of Anti-CAIR, also using the term “bigot,” just as Bedier used in his e-mail to Robert Spencer and Jihad Watch. After suffering a humiliating defeat in the legal arena courtesy of Andrew Whitehead and Anti-CAIR, you”˜d think that CAIR employees would try to be somewhat less arrogant.

On to Mr. Bedier’s e-mail and commentary:

1) Bedier: “Spence: Maybe you should consider taking your hate-fest workshops on the road and train bigots how to restrain their hatred so not to expose themselves.”

Watson: Mr. Bedier should put up or shut up. If he has any evidence that Robert Spencer or any Jihad Watch staff member participate in or host “hate-fests”, then he should have no trouble presenting it.

2) Bedier: “Bobby, the reality is NO ONE cares about your views and the handful of visitors that read the hate speech that you spew are the lowest segment of our society.”

Watson: You know, Bedier, that really hurts. The lowest segment of our society? Are the tens of thousands of Americans and Westerners that visit the Jihad Watch site on a daily basis even lower than your pal Sami Al-Arian? Are they even lower than the Islamic terror networks, radical Muslims, and even Imams who have been arrested and convicted on terror and fraud related crimes, including former CAIR officers Randall Todd “Ismail” Royer, Bassem Khafagi, and Ghassan Elashi?

3) Bedier: “The majority of Americans do not respect bigots like yourself that spread hate daily.”

“It’s entertaining watching you and your ineffective friends get desperate.”

“Remember to restrain yourself.”

Watson: Mr. Bedier shouldn”˜t flatter himself into believing that he or any other CAIR employee has the capacity or the authorization to speak for the American people, especially when survey statistics have shown that regard for Islam in this country is on a steep downward slope. And, with CAIR officials stating that the Qur’an should be the highest authority in America, and that they would like to see an Islamic government in the United States, is it any wonder why?

Pew poll 7/14/2005:
‘Concerned about Islamic Extremism in your country’ 1
India 84%
Russia 84%
Germany 78%
Spain 77%
Netherlands 76%
France 73%
United States 70%
Great Britain 70%
Canada 56%

Washington Post 3/9/2006: “Negative Perception of Islam Increasing-Poll Numbers in U.S. Higher Than in 2001”

Favorable Opinion of Islam 43%
Unfavorable Opinion of Islam 46%
No Opinion 11%

CBS News 4/12/2006: “Poll: Sinking Perceptions Of Islam”

What is your impression of Islam?

Favorable 19%
Unfavorable 45%

Just a couple more things”¦”¦By the appearance of Bedier’s e-mail content, it would appear that he is not entertained by Jihad Watch, and that perhaps the desperation is on his end. Oh, and about anyone at Jihad Watch restraining themselves”¦”¦Free speech is the defining right of all Americans.

The staff at Jihad Watch has done a remarkable job of presenting the facts, even though these facts hurt organizations like the Council on American Islamic Relations, which attempts to portray Islam as benign and tolerant, and resorts to name calling and filing lawsuits against those who confront and expose CAIR for what it really is.

Personally, they remind me of the loudmouth at the pub who agitates and provokes everyone until someone cleans their clock”¦”¦.The same loudmouth who picks himself up off the barroom floor and goes to the payphone to call the police so he can try to press charges.

Perhaps Mr. Bedier and his buddies at CAIR should practice what they preach, and have a go at restraining themselves”¦After all, the United States is not, nor has it ever been an Islamic theocracy, no matter how badly the Council on American Islamic Relations fanatics would like it to be.

You see, in America, we live by the United States Constitution, which is the law of the land. The Qur’an does not override this. In America, we are all equal in the eyes of the law. Islam doesn’t offer that, it never has. And, until militant organizations like CAIR are shut down, until radical Islamic Imams are expelled, and until Islam undergoes reform, it never will.

In conclusion, here is a comparison of the site traffic rankings of JihadWatch.org and CAIR.com from Alexa’s web rankings:

Jihad Watch Rank: 20,713
CAIR Rank: 312,945

A handful of visitors, eh?
