Sharia Alert from modern, moderate Malaysia. “Parents unhappy about school directive on food,” from New Straits Times, with thanks to Gabrielle Goldwater:
SHAH ALAM: A primary school here has told non-Muslim pupils that they cannot bring “wet food” to the Children’s Day celebrations today. And their parents are not pleased.
It is understood that teachers of SK Bukit Jelutong have told non-Muslims to only bring snacks like murukku and chips.
“I have never heard of any school not allowing non-Muslim pupils to bring food for Children’s Day.
“This kind of thing can incite racist feelings among pupils.
“They are giving the wrong idea that Muslim children can’t eat food given by a non-Muslim,” said parent Rosita Morais.
