Jordan’s Muslim Brotherhood Movement on Wednesday blasted Ethiopia’s military intervention in Somalia as an “occupation by proxy” on behalf of the United States.
“The presence of US troops near the Somali coasts and the bombardment of Islamic positions inside Somalia by US warplanes is evidence that Ethiopia has occupied the country by proxy on behalf of the United States,” the movement said in a statement.
The United States has delegated this task to Ethiopia against the backdrop of Washington’s “former bad luck in Somalia and the heroic resistance it is facing in Iraq and Afghanistan”, it added….
The Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood urged Somalis to “unite around a single vision for the sake of their country’s independence, freedom and the Arab-Islamic identity as well as the alienation of their country from internal fighting and foreign interventions”.
It also called on the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) “to do their utmost so as to bring Somalia out of its tragic situation and put an end to foreign interventions by the country’s historic foes”.
