“If somebody does not want to be a slave and wants to live a free life, what wrong is in it?” This is why the Bush Adminstration’s rhetoric about bringing “freedom” to Iraq will never work. Sure, everyone wants freedom, but Imran Khan thinks that freedom equals life under Sharia law, not life in a Western-style democracy.
“MMA says Musharraf won’t be allowed to end Kashmir jihad,” from the Daily Times, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
ISLAMABAD: Speakers at a rally to mark Kashmir Day on Monday rejected President General Pervez Musharraf’s four-point proposal for a resolution to the Kashmir dispute, and said the president would not be allowed to end jihad in Kashmir.
Participants in the rally, organised by the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) from China Chowk to Parliament House, branded Musharraf’s four-point proposal a “conspiracy against the ideology of Pakistan“. The protesters shouted slogans against the president, US and India.
MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmed accused President Musharraf of conspiring to divide Kashmir, and said the MMA would not allow this to happen.
“Musharraf assured the nation that he would not reverse the Kashmir policy when he took a U-turn on the Afghanistan policy and joined front ranks in the war on terror, but he is now changing the Kashmir policy as well,” said Qazi.
He said the president was visiting Muslim countries to urge them to recognise Israel because he wanted to be an Israel and US ally. He called the US a “terrorist killing Muslims in Afghanistan and Palestine”, and said the president and the Pakistan Army were serving US interests.
The MMA chief accused the president of demolishing mosques and seminaries in the name of targeting terrorist hideouts, and said, “I salute the female students of Jamia Hafsa who stood against the government.” The seminary”s students took over a children’s library following the demolition of a mosque in Islamabad.
Qazi said army generals did not know how to fight the enemy, because they had become “property dealers”.
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said the president was not mandated to resolve the Kashmir issue. He alleged that Musharraf had become a “private secretary to Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, in a bid to resolve the Palestine issue”. He claimed that the president’s idea of enlightened moderation was a means to get closer to Israel, and said the president did not know that the US was now moving away from Israel.
He said Musharraf considered all those who voiced concern over his idea of enlightened moderation “extremists”.
“If somebody does not want to be a slave and wants to live a free life, what wrong is in it?” he said.
He alleged that the president had excluded jihad from educational curricula under pressure from the US.
Would that this were so.
