The UK Daily Mail is not that bad a paper, usually, as papers go, although you have to wade through a lot of Britney and Heather Mills garbage to get to the real news. But in “The surprising truth about Rage Boy, America’s hated poster-boy of Islamic radicalism” by Patrick French, French quotes a number of unmoderated comments from this site, giving the impression that the writers are Jihad Watch staffers and the opinions expressed are our own. They are not. French, had he retained any shred of journalistic integrity, might have noted these words, which stand at the head of every comments field:
(Note: Comments on articles are unmoderated, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Jihad Watch or Robert Spencer. Comments that are off-topic, offensive, slanderous, or otherwise annoying may be summarily deleted. However, the fact that particular comments remain on the site IN NO WAY constitutes an endorsement by Robert Spencer of the views expressed therein.)
As I’ve said many times, I believe in free inquiry, and that the antidote to bad speech is more speech, not forcible silencing. Thus comments remain here, but to skim a few obnoxious ones out of the over 446,000 comments that have been posted here, and to represent those only as So-and-So “writing at the Jihad Watch website” — well, balanced journalism is not the first term that springs to my mind to describe this sort of thing.
Usually the Daily Mail is a cut above the general run of clueless, collaborationist and dhimmi fishwraps. I do hope this is only a temporary lapse.
