Anti-dhimmitude. From World Net Daily: “Tancredo tells Park Service to start Flight 93 memorial design process again.” (Great quotes here from Tom Burnett Sr.)
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports lots of whining by Memorial Project spokesmen.
From Alec Rawls, who reported the Tancredo letter three days before the newspapers noticed the story:
The Park Service promised Tom Tancredo in 2005 that the Islamic iconography would be removed, but every particle of the original Crescent of Embrace design remains completely intact in the redesign, which only added some surrounding trees.
The giant crescent is oriented on Mecca. That makes it a mihrab, the central feature around which every mosque is built. You can plant as many trees around a mosque as you want and it will still be a mosque.
