(ANSAmed) – NICOSIA, MAY 9 – French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, on a work visit in Cyprus, recalled today that his country opposes the accession of Turkey to the EU mainly due to the occupation by the Turkish army of the northern part of the island. The French prime minister told a joint news conference with Cypriot President Demetris Christofias that “it is not possible that a country could want to join the European Union while its army is occupying the territory of another EU country”. “The accession of Turkey to the EU is not a good solution,” Fillon said adding that “still today there are many obstacles for similar accession.
