And to do “some myth-busting” about the perpetually misunderstood faith. Taqiyya Alert: “Chance to learn about Islam,” by Hazel Ettienne for Huddersfield Daily Examiner, August 23:
PEOPLE are invited to an open day at a Huddersfield mosque.
TheÅ Hanfia Educational Institute and Mosque,Å Bentley Street, Lockwood, has organised the event on Saturday, August 30 between 1 and 5pm.
It aims to help non-Muslim visitors understand more about the Muslim faith. It will include guided tours of the building.
There will also be aÅ musical performance by the Muslim ‘Nashid’ Arts Group from London, a barbecue and activities for children and families living in and around Lockwood.
There is also horse riding, a bouncy castle, and the chance to see snakes and tortoises from Ponderosa Rare Breeds Animal Farm.
Mohammed Imran, the mosque’s general secretary, said: “Visitors will have the chance to better understand various specific themes within the Islamic faith including what the Islamic faith has to say about community cohesion, women, nature, environment and wildlife, and how it strongly condemns all forms of racism, extremism and terrorism.”
He added: “The initiative aims to help break down barriers, dispel a “˜fear of the unseen” and to do some myth-busting about the Islamic faith. The purpose of this event is to make a big contribution to strengthening our local Kirklees Council’s “˜preventing violent extremism” agenda.”
