An axe-wielding 20-year-old Palestinian man from Jenin attacked passersby on Rehovot’s main Herzl Street on Friday, lightly wounding two people.
Police said the man stood in the city’s main Herzl Street with the axe and shouted “Allah huakbar! (God is great),” before being arrested.
A 17-year-old youth sustained light cuts to his ear in the attack. He was treated on the spot and did not require hospital treatment.
A second person also sustained light injuries, but had left the scene before paramedics could reach him.
The suspect told police he wanted to avenge the death of his friend, who he said died in the IDF’s Gaza operation.
“We do not view this as an organized attack,” a Shfela Police Spokeswoman said….
