This is how the exaggerated lists of Muslim inventions get started — someone just makes it up. But don’t laugh: consider for a moment how the myth of a tolerant, pluralistic Muslim Spain has entered the popular consciousness.
Note that underneath the bluster of the claim in the press release’s headline (below) is the Islamic dogma that everyone is born a Muslim. By such means Muslims can claim anyone’s accomplishments. But the assertion that the abolition of slavery is in the Qur’an is false. The Qur’an takes slavery for granted, and it is no accident that there has never been a Muslim Wilberforce or Garrison.
Nor does the Qur’an teach equality of any kind between the Muslims, “the best of people” (3:110) and the unbelievers, “the most vile of created beings” (98:6).
