Today’s entry from the Hate Mail Bag comes to us with the subject line “Richard Spencer”:
I dont care what Robert spencer is talking abt Islam, there are problems in muslim community all over the world, but that is not because of Islam but followers of Islam, who are less literate, still carrying the past baggage of their culture, tribes, plz try to understand,if some one is interested to engage in dialogue,Zakir nayak in India,Israr Ahmed may be contacted.
I can’t imagine why Richard Spencer would care one way or the other what this fellow thinks of Robert Spencer, but there it is.
Here we see, clumsily put, the common claim that everything that defenders of human rights find objectionable in the Islamic world is not due to Islam, but due to the lingering influence of pre-Islamic culture — despite the fact that Islam works to eradicate such remnants with more force and focus than any other belief system, and also despite the fact that many of the specifics in thus regard, such as the degrading of women, polygamy, stoning, jihad against non-Muslims, etc., are rooted in Islamic texts and teachings.
