In an unsigned editorial entitled only “Fathima Rifqa Bary,” September 5 (thanks to Kamala), the Orlando Sentinel once again does its level best to make sure that Rifqa Bary is murdered or institutionalized:
Nine — count ’em — lawyers were in court this week in Orlando to continue waging the divisive legal battle over a 17-year-old girl from Ohio. Surely this can’t be that hard to resolve.
Fathima Rifqa Bary, who fled her Muslim family in July, swears her father will kill her for converting to Christianity if she goes home. He denies that and wants her to come back. But her case has been exploited by evangelical activists and politicians to promote crude stereotypes of Muslims.
Lawyers for the family in this week’s hearing cited a report from Florida’s top law-enforcement agency that concluded the family does not pose a threat to the girl. Both parents have agreed to place her in an Ohio foster home for at least 30 days if a judge allows her return.
If not for the intervention of opportunists in Florida, this case would’ve been turned over weeks ago to Ohio, where it belongs.
Yes, of course Rifqa would be in no danger at home. Of course there is no threat. Of course this is all about “opportunists” and “crude stereotypes of Muslims.”
Here are some more people promoting crude stereotypes of Muslims in regard to the killing of apostates.
