What are the Muslim organizations who went after Home Minister P Chidambaram doing when a Muslim actually employs terror as an instrument of jihad? Do they bring pressure on him also?
An update on this story. “PC eats his ‘jihad’ comment,” from Express News Service, January 10 (thanks to James):
CHENNAI: Faced with increasing criticism from both Muslim and secular organisations, Home Minister P Chidambaram said he had no intention to hurt the sentiments of Muslims.
He clarified that he had used the word ‘jihad’ in the same sense the term was used in common parlance and in the media, and that he stood corrected.
He has been receiving flak after his comment: “Jihad employs terror as an instrument to achieve its objectives. Such terror is directed against all and sundry, its victims are usually innocent people, and its goal is to overawe and overthrow the established authority.” In a letter to Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam president M H Jawaharullah, he explained the context in which he had used the word ‘jihad’ to describe militant activities.
