The translation of the original headline, according to Jihad Watch’s handsome, leather-bound American English / English-English Dictionary is “Birmingham purveyor of a particular curry dish is jihad kingpin.” And knowing is half the battle.
“Brummie balti boss ‘is terror kingpin,” by Tom Wells for The Sun, April 26 (thanks to the aptly named Thomas Pellow):
A British dad arrested by armed cops was last night accused of masterminding terrorism for Osama bin Laden – from his Birmingham balti restaurant.
Curry house boss Golam Mostafa, 55 – suspected of heading a UK terror cell – was seized in Bangladesh.
British police were said to have been probing him for money laundering and frozen his bank accounts when he scarpered there three years ago.
He allegedly sent thousands he made from selling baltis to finance terrorism in Bangladesh.
Jihadist entrepreneurship.
The cell he is accused of running back here was part of a feared group called HUJI – Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami.
Great. Who else in this cell is still on the Sceptered Isle?
Its chiefs – closely linked to al-Qaeda and the Taliban – support bin Laden’s fatwa demanding the murder of all Americans and Jews.
Mostafa’s arrest is his SECOND since returning to Bangladesh.
He had barely arrived in his bolthole when cops found guns, ammunition and books on bomb-making at his home in Sylhet.
He was jailed for 17 years but launched an appeal – which saw him freed on bail.
Last night Bangladeshi police chief Shahidul Hoque said the new arrest followed fresh extremism.
He declared: “Mostofa was carrying out militant activities and tried to get arrested militant leaders freed.”
And probably not by asking nicely.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are aware of reports of a UK national being detained in Bangladesh and are making inquiries.”
