Larijani is retailing fantasies here. The West has done everything it could, up to and including endorsing a Sharia Constitution for Afghanistan, to avoid changing “the cultures of peoples of the area.” And considering all the roads, schools, and hospitals that American troops have built in Afghanistan, the idea that the West considers the Afghan people to be “prey” is just jihadist agitprop. What Larijani refuses to admit, and hopes you don’t think about, is that the jihad movements of Hamas, Hizballah and the Taliban — and they are indeed jihad movements — also engage in terrorism, i.e., the targeting of innocent civilians in order to demoralize and weaken an enemy population. But even if they didn’t — and here Western authorities generally have no clue — they should still be opposed by all free people precisely because they are jihad movements, working for the imposition of Sharia, a system of laws that denies the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of women and non-Muslims.
“West doesn”t differentiate between jihad, terrorist movements – Iran”s [sic] Larijani,” from Saba Net, July 3:
TEHRAN, July 3 (Saba) — Iranian Shura Council Speaker Ali Larijani said Saturday the West “does not differentiate between jihad and terrorist movements.” Addressing the Iran-Afgahnistan Traditional Forum, Larijani said Western countries have wrong approach towards jihad, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
“They (the West) don’t differentiate between jihad and terrorist movements so they consider Hezbollah, Hamas and the jihadist forces in Afghanistan as terrorist movements,” he said.
He believed the Western countries lacked the true knowledge of the Afghan civilization “and consider the Afghan people as a prey.” Larijani said the US “occupied Afghanistan under pretext of fighting terrorism and drugs, and then occupied Iraq to execute its plans in the region in order to strengthen the Western dominance and change the cultures of peoples of the area.” Iran rejects foreign interference, specially NATO forces, in Islamic issues particularly in Afghanistan, he said.
