Yet another convert to Islam misunderstands his new, peaceful religion. “Rapper turned Islamist preacher faces weapons charges,” from The Local, April 18 (thanks to Twostellas):
Former Berlin rapper Deso Dogg, who quit music to become a radical Islamic preacher, is facing weapons charges after police raided his home and found ammunition.
A prominent member of the Salafist scene, 35-year-old “Deso Dogg” whose real name is Mamadou C. but is known in Islamist circles as Abou Maleeq, had stashed 16 rounds of ammunition at his home in March 2010….
Mamadou C. has previous convictions on drug charges. As Abou Maleeq, he has repeatedly made the headlines for openly praising violent Jihad, or holy war, and has long been in the sights of German intelligence agencies.
Mamadou C. was born in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg. He was a successful rap artist until last November when he announced he was quitting music to become a preacher.
