A gunman opened fire on an American security team that was training Yemeni soldiers in the south of the country, the Pentagon said Friday, but denied claims by a militant Islamist group that a C.I.A. officer had been killed in the assault. Ansar al-Sharia, an Islamist group linked to Al Qaeda, said in a text message to journalists it had attacked and killed the C.I.A. officer on Thursday in Aden Province. In Washington, a Pentagon spokesman confirmed that a gunman fired several shots at an armored vehicle carrying an American security team but said that no one was injured.
