A Fatah official based in Lebanon recently explained that Yasser Arafat was involved in “all liberation movements in the world; in South America, in Asia, in Africa, and had a part in all these revolutions.” The official, Fatah’s Director of Communications in Lebanon Rifat Shanaah, claimed that Arafat “taught them” that Israel is “the racist entity, the enemy of all nations of the world” and that “it bears responsibility for insecurity everywhere because Israel exists in order to create conflicts – sectarian and ethnic conflicts in the Middle East.”
This message of Israel and the Jews being a danger to humanity is not new in official PA and Fatah discourse. Earlier this year, Palestinian Media Watch documented that PA TV had two young girls recite a poem with the words: “Oh Sons of Zion, oh most evil among creations.” In 2011, a PA-funded educational magazine for children published an essay written by a teenage girl that depicted Hitler heroically because he “killed the Jews” because they “are a nation which spreads destruction all over the world.” In January this year, PA TV broadcast a documentary explaining that European countries wanted to get rid of the Jews because “Europe could not bear their (the Jews’) character traits, monopolies, corruption…” and stated that “later the Jews obtained the Balfour Declaration, and Europe saw it as an ideal solution to get rid of them.”…
