Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Robert Spencer in FrontPage Mag: Obama’s Feds: Death to Boston Jihadist

Jan 31, 2014 1:45 pm By Robert Spencer

Mueller initially disputed this, saying, “Your facts are not altogether well –” In a heated exchange, Gohmert shot back: “Sir, if you’re going to call me a liar, you need to point out specifically where the facts are wrong.”

Mueller responded: “We went to the mosque. Prior to Boston,” he said vehemently. “Prior to Boston happening, we were in that mosque talking to imams several months beforehand as part of our outreach efforts.”

Gohmert then asked: “Were you aware that those mosques were started by Alamoudi?”

“I’ve answered the question, sir,” Mueller replied.

Not satisfied with this, Gohmert pressed: “You didn’t answer the question, were you aware that it was started by Alamoudi.” Mueller then admitted that he had not been.

So we had the spectacle of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation being warned by at least one foreign government that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a jihadist, but not even being aware of the fact that Tsarnaev attended a Muslim Brotherhood-linked mosque that was founded by a principal al-Qaeda financier – and sending agents to that mosque not to investigate the Tsarnaevs or any other possible jihad activity there, but to engage in “outreach” to Muslims.

If anything illustrated the Obama Administration’s abject failure to take the jihad threat seriously, that was it. The only thing that would have completed the picture would have been if Robert Mueller had been holding Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s photo on the cover of Rolling Stone.

The foremost lesson of the Boston bombing was that the denial of the nature and magnitude of the jihad threat, which the Obama Administration (as well as the mainstream media) had pursued so assiduously, was wrongheaded and dangerous. Obama said in late April 2013 that his FBI had not acted improperly, but had investigated Tamerlan Tsarnaev and found no signs that Tsarnaev was “engaging in extremist activity.” This was probably because agents had no idea how to tell whether or not Tamerlan Tsarnaev was “engaging in extremist activity,” because the “extremist activity” he was engaging in was Islamic jihad, and Obama’s FBI is forbidden to study Islamic jihad. And so the politically correct FBI ignored Tamerlan Tsarnaev despite repeated warnings from Russian authorities. And if they did investigate him, they didn’t know what to look for or how to understand what they were seeing.

Now, after all their massive failures, they’re getting tough with the surviving Tsarnaev, and calling for the death penalty? It’s too little, too late.

NO death penalty for ANY Jihadist. Why make Martyrs of them? Why let them believe that are going to go to paradise? ( even though they are not ) .

The worst punishment for any Jihadist is to keep them locked up and deny , what they believe would be martyrdom.

A long slow life in the custody of infidels suits me just fine.

Oh , and put them in general population and let the law of the jungle , as these animals deserve, take it’s course.

You have it right. let Dzhokhar Tsarnaev rot in jail. stick him in the Ultra Max in Florence, Colorado. Isolation 24/7 nobody to talk to for decades to come. Nobody will care, nobody will remember who this coward is. His death will be go unheard of. It will take many years to execute him and there will be a cry about how unfair the death penalty is and the victims will be forgotten. It is better that he just vanishes

Absolutely. These are people who brag about loving DEATH like we love life.

A long life in captivity would be the absolute worst punishment imaginable for death lovers . That ,and deny them any access to the ideology that put them in there to begin with.

Mo-Blows—with respect—I don’t believe we should change our legal system one way or the other based on what Jihadists want.

We’re already doing much too much of that.

How very astute! I agree, only isolation and hard labor for these criminals. They love death. We should deny them. We should inflict physical and mental torture on these humans-turned-psychopaths by their religion.

I’m not for the death penalty, but what I am for is a life at hard labor. Breaking rocks with a sledgehammer or digging and refilling useless holes in the yard.
No Quran, no prayer rug, no halal meals, no contact with other Mahoundians, no dawah. But my way or Holders way, Allah is not going to save him.

I’m for the death penalty. In fact, I would even argue that not having it is unethical. For instance, if no death penalty, what do you then do to someone already convicted of a heinous, first degree murder and given life without parole who, while in prison, takes that one-second opportunity to kill a prison guard? As another example, what about a first-degree murderer who, after being given a lot of years in prison, is paroled (and this happens) and then kills an innocent person when out? I find it interesting, instructive and even amusing in a macabre way that those against the death penalty are against it primarily for moral reasons and use the “morality defense” against those FOR it (like me), but who won’t accept the moral consequences of being against it, as in the two examples I provided above (and many more examples could be given).

Those against the death penalty have blood on their hands at least as much as those for it who, to be fair and objective, must explain why an innocent person wrongly executed does not function as an insuperable objection to the death penalty. In short, both sides here have explaining to do, but it is telling in the extreme that only one side is regularly put on the hot seat, i.e., those for capital punishment.

Also, those against the death penalty often have no problem with consigning someone to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole, as though this is something preferable to death—-and a more moral choice. Well, personally speaking, I would prefer death to a life in an 8 by 6 twenty-three hours a day (or performing grueling hard labor for years on end), something far more horrible than death itself I would argue. And so here again the moral argument against the death penalty collapses.

And so I say execute the younger Tsarnaev brother. Get rid of him and relegate possible martyr status and any moral qualms against the death penalty to ancillary concerns. In any case, I agree with Robert Spencer that the Holder Justice Department seeking the death penalty here is being done for face-saving political reasons and not out of any true conviction.

Wellington, I might be mistaken, but I thought I saw you mention a while back that you (or someone else) had some legal background.
I would appreciate some info, Please advise.

Does anyone know the legal ramifications if the attorney general seeks the death penalty and a jury member holds out?
Is it all or nothing or could life in prison still be an option?
      thanks

    • Kepha says

      Great post, Wellington.

The establishment of capital punishment for murder in Genesis 9:6 holds that the murderer has assaulted the image of God (understood as knowledge, righteousness, and holiness in my theological tradition rather than anthropomorphism). Hence, I agree that the death penalty is a highly moral and ethical thing. As for the innocent executed, I wholeheartedly agree that this must be avoided, and the most careful weighing of evidence and certitude must precede applying the death penalty–but the death penalty should still be there when murder is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Re your comments on life imprisonment, I wonder if you’ve ever read Chekhov’s “The Bet”?

Yet I am also worried about this administration’s choice to pursue the death penalty at this point. You indeed nailed it when you say it was done for “face-saving political concerns”. But could this not also underscore the radical moral relativism of the progressive movement, as well as a certain cynicism? I didn’t hear the progs crying for clemency when then-governor Dubya Bush shook his head at pleas for the men who dragged James Byrd to death (they simply skewered Dubya for not making the crime a “hate crime”). Further, the ease with which the progressive movement looks aside at the frequent employment of the death penalty in Marxist states gives further pause. When it suits their political agenda, perhaps even to the point of liquidating any opposition, no matter how responsible, the progressives are as dangerous as any jihadi.

Now that I’ve patted your back, whaddaya say that before too long, some Muslims will be screaming that Joker Tsarnaev is the innocent patsy of the JOOOOOOZ?

Why did Attorney General Eric Holder wait until 2 days after Obama’s State of the Union address to finally seek the death penalty? Was he waiting to check Obama’s polling numbers?

  5. Wellington says

    Jan 31, 2014 at 8:36 pm

Jay Boo: Death sentencing guidelines for juries differ from state to state (in those some three dozen states that still have the death penalty) as well as for the federal govenment. Respecting the federal government in this regard, a federal jury is mandated the authority to pronounce a sentence of death after a determination of guilt but it must be unanimous. If it is not, I believe the federal judge must then declare a life sentence without parole, though I would appreciate confirmation of this by some other lawyer.

  6. Jay Boo says

    Jan 31, 2014 at 8:51 pm

    Thanks Wellington,
I would hope that a life sentence without parole would be a next option and that there would not be some technicality or loophole that Attorney General Eric Holder would carelessly overlook to appease CAIR and their dhimmi MSM friends.
The way Huff Post and Rolling Stone magazine treated the victims as an afterthought shows the need to be suspicious. Although the death penalty is warranted, I doubt it will happen with the MSM playing its forget about the victims games. I wouldn’t be surprised if Obama gave a ‘compassionate’ full pardon just before leaving office to appease MB CAIR.

I realize this is a Jihad-related website, BUT the BIG story in the story above is that the DHS/FBI/GOV has decided [DECIDED, as in they thought about it Seriously and Hard and figured out what would happen, and then they DECIDED – are you receiving this???] not to monitor Mosques. You all know what a “Mosque” actually is, right? It’s where Islamists get indoctrinated. Absolutely everybody, and his dog, knows that.

This isn’t embarrassing, it’s terrifying. I don’t believe 9-11 was a home-grown conspiracy at all, but THIS??? It’s conspiracy by deliberate inaction. How is that NOT conspiracy, when the risks, facts and stakes etc. are well-known in advance, and we’ve already been super-bombed TWICE by commercial jet airliners full of American passengers?

What is the government’s real goal? The one that FITS the facts above?

You all know what a “Mosque” actually is, right?

In addition to indoctrination, mosques have a long and well documented history of serving as armories, military operations centers, government administration centers, and oh also a house of worship for a religion that, as the lawyers say, has bad facts. Very bad facts.

That’s why the minarets, they’re defense towers. My namesake the Holy Prophet Mohammed led 81 such attacks, but those were against Jewish oasis farms in Western Arabia and Arab pagans towns.

ALL of the above that you mentioned is part of Obamas concerted
effort at Shariah Compliance. It shreds our security if our security
agencies are forbidden to say the words. BUT, it keeps accusations
of “blaspheme” to a minimum. Islamist will cut your head off if
you blaspheme. This is really bullying by threat of force. A criminal
act. Obama goes along with it because “we” don’t want to
upset them. Huh! Death to Mujahedeen!

Now, when it is far too late, they’re trying to look tough on jihad terror.

And more. Holder scolded us as cowards on race when he took office. Then he went ahead and let two polling place baton thugs off from a certain conviction, presumably cuz they weren’t cowards on race, they were straight ahead racists, much like the vaunted racist himself, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

So now Holder is going for the death penalty on Tsarnaev, a Caucasian no less. Like we say in my industry, the other white meat is healthy and nutritional; this is Eric the Red at the feeding trough, the racist.

An assassination is a murder of an individual, who is usually a famous celebrity, politician, religious figure or royal. Usually in cases of assassination there is a clear motive – jealousy, political or religious idealism, contract killing, revenge etc. This list outlines the circumstances surrounding the death of 10 of the most famous successful assassinations in world history.

As the world moved into the modern day, the killing of important people began to become more than a tool in power struggles between rulers themselves and was also used for political symbolism, such as in the propaganda of the deed. Assassinations may be prompted by religious, ideological, political, or military reasons but the end result is targeted killing of a public figure, whom we know well or we love. Each nation would have lost some famous political entity in same way, here is a list that mentions the ten famous political leaders who were well-esteemed and admired by their people and were massacred.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was the pre-eminent political and spiritual leader of India during the Indian independence movement. He pioneered satyagraha—resistance to tyranny through mass civil disobedience, a philosophy firmly founded upon ahimsa, or total nonviolence, which helped India to gain independence, and inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi swore to speak the truth and advocated that others do the same. On 30 January 1948, Gandhi was shot while he was walking to a platform from which he was to address a prayer meeting.!!!
