Islam invaded the West around 700AD and were turned back in Western France at the Battle of Tours/Poitiers around 1150.
The First Crusade didn’t occur until around 300 years later.
There were no Islamic pilgrimage sites in Western Europe and as stated the Crusades were to guarantee access to Christian holy places in the ME.

Dear Rob,
Actually, the First Crusade was called in response to Muslim attacks on Constantinople, on Italy and on Rome. The Patriarch sent a desperate plea to the Pope for military support for their suffering Eastern Christian brethren. The Pope worded his request in terms of ‘no greater love hath any man than that he lay down his life for his friend’.
After 200 years, the European Crusaders failed to protect Constantinople…the main reason of many for the Crusades. They even cooperated with the Turkish Muslims to take the city. Venetian military engineers provided the know-how to the Muslims to breach the city’s defenses. One of the worst acts of treachery in history. All Greek Christians are aware of this horrible betrayal.
Hell! Washington is betraying eastern Christians, RIGHT NOW!

Just shows that no matter how steamed up one is following an item on JW, it pays NOT to reply relying on memory for dates.
I revise my timeline to (1) Invasion of North Africa by Muslims from 632 (2) Invasion of Spain 711 (3) invasion of France 717 (4) Battle of Tours 732 (5) First Crusade 1096.
The gap between the checking of Muslim expansion in Western Europe by the Franks at Tours and the First Crusade was (as mentioned) just over 300 years.
The Muslim armies did not refer to ‘Crusaders’, but to ‘Franks’. This pretty well underlines the fact that they knew that what we call Crusades was payback for their earlier escapades.
My point is to rebut the much-repeated Muslim whine that the Crusades were some inexplicable undeserved attack on peace loving Muslim communities.

This might be more convincing if it weren’t so illiterate, “DefenderofIslam”.

Brian C Hoff is an islamist troll. His lack of English skills and this statement prove it- “His big mistake was asking the CAIR to leave the class as it only prove he is than hate monger and bigot”
Hoff- do you not understand that it is illegal under the university’s charter for anyone who IS NOT A STUDENT to attend class??
GO AWAY!!!

Robert,
WHY do you refer to Tamil Elam suicide bombers when—
“Four Years after a Tamil Defeat, the Diaspora Regroups”
Tamil Tigers were defeated 4 YEARS AGO!! This challenges your credibility.
Robert Spencer says
I wasn’t referring to them as a contemporary phenomenon, but as the sole non-Muslim suicide bombers.

For Brian C. Hoff: Does the following ‘spread hate’?
Koran 60: 4-5 Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: “Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides ALLAH : we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you HOSTILITY AND HATRED FOREVER until you believe in ALLAH ALONE”
In the Koranic passage above, the hostility and hatred of Abraham is ‘an excellent example for Moslems.’ The passage is clearly saying: ‘others’ are hated by Moslems because they do not believe in Islam. Moslems are ‘free’ from the disease of unbelief (kufr) and they hate kafirs like they hate the plague. The hatred will turn to love after the kafirs believe in Mohammed.
So Brian, (since you are a jihadist) it is your duty to hate and be hostile to disbelievers.
THIS IS MY QUESTION FOR YOU: How do you know when you are hating disbelievers ENOUGH to please Allah? When is your hatred enough?
But Brian, aren’t you ashamed that we understand your game? Please find out the right amount of hate for a Muslim to have in his heart and get back to us.

Great interview with Dr. Matusitz.
He mentioned that there have been some Muslim students in his classes over the years, and that most of them don’t seem to know much about Islam. As far as I’m aware, from the polls of American Muslims that I’ve seen, they are among the most “moderate,” possibly the most moderate, in the world. Still, the majority of Muslims in the U.S. do not think criticism of Islam and Muhammad should be protected as free expression. Depending on the poll, large minorities to majorities of American Muslims want sharia.
It may be that the Muslims who would go to a university and take a course such as Matusitz’s are more moderate or secular (relatively speaking) than the average. I also would not be surprised if some of the Muslim students are feigning ignorance of some of the more troubling aspects of Islam, rather than argue with their professor. Most students in general, in my experience, don’t like to express disagreement with the prof. They just want to learn the material, do well in the course, and move on.
(I don’t find it credible, in light of poll results, the idea that most Muslims don’t know at least the basics of Islam. Most of them certainly endorse many of the major elements of sharia. I suspect that, among Muslims in the U.S. as elsewhere, most young Muslim women, for example, know that it is at least a major taboo to date and/or marry a non-Muslim man, and that most young Muslim men know they can date and/or marry not only Muslim women but also Christian and Jewish women. They’ve absorbed some of the culture, even if they don’t have a detailed technical knowledge of sharia and jihad, and the sordid details of Muhammad’s biography).

One more observation: In polls of Muslims opinions, you often see unusually large percentages of “I don’t know,” “I’m not sure,” and refusals to respond to some questions. This is similar to what Matusitz mentioned, anecdotally, about the Muslim students in his classes.
