He isn’t killing his political opponents, but he is using state power to hound them. My latest in FrontPage:
I’m no fan of Dinesh D’Souza, but this is ridiculous.
Dinesh and I locked horns a few years back when he attacked me in his book The Enemy At Home, saying that books like mine should not be written. His line was that Islam was a religion of peace, that pious, morally upright Muslims had been driven to lash out against the U.S. because of the immorality of our pop culture, and that American conservatives should ally with what he termed “conservative Muslims” against their common, amoral Leftist foe.
He and I debated this at CPAC in 2007 and on several radio shows, which grew increasingly heated as he charged me with “Islamophobia” (a term used by Muslim Brotherhood entities to stigmatize opposition to jihad terror) and invoked Saudi-funded Islamic apologist John Esposito as an authority.
The ensuing years have only shown more vividly what nonsense Dinesh’s position was, as “conservative Muslims” the world over wage jihad against America, and non-Muslims everywhere, more furiously than ever.
I rehash all this to show the falsehood of the line that has been circulating around in the Leftist media ever since Dinesh D’Souza was indicted: that only people who share D’Souza’s views are concerned about his indictment. As Tal Kopan put it in Politico, “In the wake of the indictment of conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza for alleged fraud, conservatives are crying foul that it is evidence of the Obama administration punishing its critics.”
Liberals should be as concerned about this as conservatives. Foes of jihad should be just as concerned about it as those who share D’Souza’s worries about “Islamophobia.” For the evidence is mounting that D’Souza has indeed been targeted for being a public and high-profile foe of Barack Obama – a development that should disquiet anyone who believes in the value of a stable, functioning republic with a loyal opposition. Pamela Geller notes here that D’Souza is not remotely the only conservative or Obama critic who has been targeted for prosecution, while Obama’s Justice Department has turned a blind eye to illegal campaign contributions from Gaza during Obama’s 2008 campaign. And then there was the Obama Justice Department’s dismissal of the New Black Panthers voter intimidation case.
What’s more, bail for D’Souza was set higher than that given to several people accused of attempted murder, rape, assault, and the like. To whom is Dinesh D’Souza more dangerous than a man who sexually assaulted a teenager, or a man who kept old men captive in a filthy “dungeon”?
This is something new in American politics. When I was six years old, I took notice of the presidential campaign, and asked my father who was the “good guy”: Richard Nixon or Hubert Humphrey. My father answered, “They’re both good men. They both want to do what is right for the country. They just disagree on what some of the right things to do may be.”
That kind of respect for the opposition was commonplace in America back in 1968, but it has all but vanished now. I remember being taken aback in college by the obscene, relentless, vicious hatred that the Left directed toward Ronald Reagan – I was at that time entirely sympathetic with their disdain for him, but the frenzy with which they expressed it, their wild furious contempt, shocked me. And that was nothing compared to what they had in store for George W. Bush. The Democratic Party as a whole, along with the entire Leftist establishment, adopted the Alinskyite tactic of ridiculing, mocking and smearing their foes instead of engaging them on the level of ideas. Leftists now routinely portray their opponents as simultaneously stupid and evil, idiotic but crafty; it’s practically a reflex.

The movement of the progressives is in near full control of the country, and is a worldwide attempt to control all humans. In this country, all that is left is them, and the true conservatives, partys no longer follow the platform they were intended to follow.
Obama is the first American dictator, as his actions should clearly show. Look for attempts to remove all restrictions on his “third term”, he has the power right now to remain in full control of the country after his current term is over. By crook or Exec. order, he will stay in power, unless the country firmly rejects his attempt to claim the crown, a event that will show the true colors of the progressives and those who support them.
Interesting times…

You need to substantiate this. How can he legally accomplish your claim? JK

What does “legally” have to do with it? It’s not legal for him to waive parts of Obamacare for, say, Congress, yet he has done it.

Actually, he can’t. The federal judiciary has become so corrupt since the 1960s that their rulings on the most important somehow have all been on the side of the globo-socialists, and that includes the Socialist Lite crowd over at Club RINO.
The federal judges are objective and honorable, but they have this strange habit made even more queer with their preposterous claim that the Constitution is a living document.

JK;
I can give the info, but you, John Kerry , should already know what I have found.
Interesting you , John Kerry , jumped in right after I wrote my post, perhaps a attempt to intimidate such talk, or a warning to end such.
Do a search as to who, just what party, is raising the balloons as to removing term limits on our great “leader”.
Not that it matters, he has that pen, and that phone.

Sadly, the Left, collectively speaking, doesn’t care about freedom for conservatives, only for itself. This is, of course, unethical and often downright illegal, but it is also stupid. To date the Left remains clueless, but then the Left is clueless about so much. It’s actually a greater threat to liberty than is Islam. If no modern Left, taking care of Islam would be immensely easier and we wouldn’t have stupidties like hate speech codes on college campuses and a thug with a law degree running the Justice (Just Us?) Department.
Kepha says
Wellington, I think you’re on the money that the Left is a bigger enemy of liberty than Islam. Ever since I was a pumpkin-headed college kid, whenever I hear a leftist loftily pronounce, “I disagree wit h what you say, but will fight to the death for your right to say it,” I start reflexively counting the silver. I’ve said many times that I think that the O administration really hates the First Amendment.
Further, I think that the election financing law under which D’Souza was indicted has got to go. It’s an incumbent protection racket. I’ve also noticed that a lot of my socialist colleagues are for that law.
We cannot afford to lose sight of the unhappy fact that a lot of the people who are now leading us started their active political lives as admirers of some of the nastiest and most bloodthirsty despots in world history, and avid students of the Marxist ideology that nurtured those despots.

Don’t forget the infamous “Fast and Furious” operation, in which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives goaded Arizona gun dealers into selling AKs and other weapons to “straw” purchasers, who then transferred them to Mexican drug cartel thugs — who were supposed to have been traced but never were. This has resulted in the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and God alone knows how many Mexican victims — but not a single ATF officer has even been fired, much less indicted. Those who have retired did so on full pensions. It is very likely that the objective of this operation was not to trace Mexican gun traffickers but to “salt” Mexican crime scenes with American-bought guns, the better to advance the administration’s gun-repression drive.

Two in a week, the other being the move to sue Standard & Poor for daring to downgrade the gubmint’s credit rating, the first such ever.
In his first campaign Obama filed a lawsuit against a Montana rancher for employing 3 illegal aliens. All around him, other ranchers employ dozens, but what made him different is that he had donated to the campaigns of a couple of Republicans running for the House.
Think about it: if he can legislate from the Oval Office, and he can short of being impeached and convicted, then he can use the Dept of Justice to deliver the opposite to his political enemies.
Also, the IRS is back to its old political fixing with the conservative 501-4C groups, and why not, there is no forthcoming prosecution of the felony behavior of dozens of IRS employees to help rig the 2012 election.

This is one of the reasons I have the greatest respect for Robert Spencer—he always stands on principle, even when the victim is someone he has significant disagreements with.

This is *very* true—one doesn’t have to much admire D’Souza’ views to see that he is being railroaded here, and that that has implications for *all* of us who care about freedom in the United States.

Yes—this is madness. D’Souza is in no way personally dangerous.

I disagree with Dinesh D’Souza’s underestimation of the Islamist threat to freedom but I do not support his arrest either. If more such arrests continue in the future, then our nation and its tradition of free speech will die and we will end up like Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries that have governments which use laws against hate speech to silence their critics rather than to silence the real haters that are destroying those once-great nations.
I hope that those nations can restore their traditions of democracy and tolerance before it is too late for them.
