Imagine how grim and humorless someone would have to be to report something like this to the police.
“Allah did not create man so that he could have fun. The aim of creation was for mankind to be put to the test through hardship and prayer. An Islamic regime must be serious in every field. There are no jokes in Islam. There is no humor in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. There can be no fun and joy in whatever is serious.” — Ayatollah Khomeini
“‘Halal’ pork label an insensitive hoax: FairPrice,” by Grace Chua for Straits Times, January 27 (thanks to Halal Pork Shop):
Supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice said an image circulating on the Internet, of its air-flown fresh pork bearing a ‘halal’ sticker, is an insensitive hoax in poor taste.
In a media statement on Monday, FairPrice CEO Seah Kian Peng said: “We understand that an old image of a tampered packaging of FairPrice fresh pork carrying a halal certification mark has again resurfaced on Facebook recently.”
The image, an email hoax from 2007, appears to still be circulating on the Internet today.
He added: “We are mindful of the serious religious implications of this matter and regard this as a wilful act of mischief, and had lodged a report with the Singapore Police then.

Oh brother …
mohammedans wrote the book on all things insensitive, and they continue to promote their evil false prophet, muhammad (perdition be upon him), the master-mind behind the greatest hoax to plague mankind: islam!

why so angry? I know your company doesn’t put dog meat into its hamburger or slip bacon fat into the knishes, but it amuses me to see your customers get upset. you have no sense of humor!
seriously.. this posting falls below the standards of jihad watch. it’s pretty much bigot bait. actually, most of the article is behind a paywall, so it’s entirely possible I’m missing something. Is there something about imposing sharia on non-muslims? Government capitulation to supremacist’s demands? Justifying violence based on religion?
It looks like the CEO took action to protect his company from libel.

This is a story about Muslims *calling the police* over an internet joke. This is about Muslims expecting Infidels to enforce Shari’ah norms.
Sure—it’s not a gaudy as beheadings and stonings—but don’t worry, our Mohammedan friends will be no doubt be up to something that ‘meets your standards’ soon enough, I’m sure…

Mohammed wrote the book on VICTIMOLOGY. Everyone who hurt Mohammed’s feelings was murdered. The Koran uses the word ‘ANNOY’. This set a precedent for the last 1400 years. Anyone who merely ‘annoys’ Muslims may be murdered.
Islam is a culture of mass hypnosis and mass Borderline Personality Disorder, in particular of Intermittent Explosive Disorder.
The traits of Intermittent Explosive Disorder are: verbal aggression, temper tantrums, tirades, arguments, or fights or physical aggression directed towards property, animals, or other individuals ; these outbursts occur on average at least twice weekly for three months (Mohammed tried to kill people every 6 weeks); physical assaults that damage property or injure animals or other people, occurring at least 3 times in a 12 month period (the Caliph is commanded in Sharia to commit jihad AT LEAST twice yearly).
Am I the only one who is reading Islam as a personality disorder?
●Aggressive behavior is grossly out of proportion to the provocation or any precipitating psychosocial stressor

Singapore: Photo of pork with “halal” label has “serious religious implications,” reported to police

Exactly. Could you imagine Jews reporting this to the police if it had a photoishopped “Kosher” label, or non-meat eaters if it had a mocked-up “vegetarian” sticker? Of course not.

Here is what Craven wrote
This is a story about Muslims *calling the police* over an internet joke. This is about Muslims expecting Infidels to enforce Shari’ah norms.
Well if Craven had taken the time to read the story, then she would have seen that it was not mohammedans who called the police
In a media statement on Monday, FairPrice CEO Seah Kian Peng said: “We understand that an old image of a tampered packaging of FairPrice fresh pork carrying a halal certification mark has again resurfaced on Facebook recently.

You’re right, it was the dhimmies that called the cops. In my book, that’s even worse!
Semeru says
I would not go so far to call them dhimmies, this sort of thing can lead to rocks being heaved through your shopfront or worse.
And Mr Spencer,s comment is a bit out of order.
Imagine how grim and humorless someone would have to be to report something like this to the police.
This prank is far from funny, innocent people could get hurt because of it
Tom Billesley says
This is the message:.
If you do something that offends us we will be violent, so be afraid and stop doing it. We have a right not to be offended, and you don’t have a right not to be intimidated.
What a cockamamie cult. Islam is a gift to mockers.
If I thought muslims believed in homeopathy, I’d chuck a pork chop into the reservoir.
Robert Spencer says
“…innocent people could get hurt because of it”
Now, why is that? Who might be hurting them?
gravenimage says
Well, Semeru was right—it was dhimmis who called the police, not Mohammedans themselves.
He wrote:
“I would not go so far to call them dhimmies, this sort of thing can lead to rocks being heaved through your shopfront or worse.”
This is the *essence* of dhimmitude—adhering to—or even self-enforcing—Shari’ah norms out of abject fear of Muslim savagery.
One can have sympathy for dhimmi behavior in the face of Muslim threats, but that doesn’t make the phenomenon any less harmful and disturbing.
And keep in mind—Singapore is *not* a Muslim country. Only about 15% of the population is Mohammedan, and yet Infidels there already have to fear violent reprisals over a silly photoshop joke. Appalling.
And note: Semeru refers to me as “craven” for my “impolite” reply to ombudsgirl, who misses or minimizes the point of this story—does he have any actual condemnation for those who would threaten violence over this bit of waggishness? Not exactly…
Ron Munro says

muslims are fun, we must make fun of them every chance we get just to piss them off. And BTW islam is not a religion.
Semeru says
Robert Spencer @ Now, why is that? Who might be hurting them
Mohammedans of course
RodSerling says
The big-picture point here is that this wouldn’t be a major concern were it not for the ever-present threat of Muslim violence over some perceived offense or disrespect of Islam.
But the point, raised by at least a couple of commenters above, that this is a defamation against the food company that could lead to harm, is a valid one also in my opinion. It’s one thing to use your own freedom of expression to mock Islam. That’s your choice. It’s quite another to make it appear as though someone else is doing the mocking, or at least associating someone else (in this case a company) with the mocking. In this case, the food company would likely bear the brunt of any harm to people and property, and business. (Violent Muslim mobs are not exactly discerning when it comes to doling out punishment on their intended targets).
Indeed, it is possible that a Muslim hoaxer did this in order to provoke such outrage against this food company.
And this is yet one more reason as to why sharia should be banned indefinitely, and Muslim immigration ended indefinitely: It is simply not safe to have significant Muslim populations in our society.

Better to have taken the trouble to make up a fake logo. Agree with RodSerling that this could be a deliberate targeting, per the evil events that befall Pakistani Christians et al. when they are accused of unkoranic behavior. Pork producers perform an essential service in the cause of freedom, and so they need protection. They didn’t ask for this and cannot be expected to stand up to what such notoriety might bring. Best leave such political cartoons to competent cartoonists.

Maybe ethnic Malay Singaporean housewives who could choose to do business elsewhere because of a perception of bad food labelling practices? Making a personal choice not to eat pork is not offensive. Removing it from schools in Norway is.
There’s nothing to suggest this was anything other than a CEO protecting a very real threat to his business image. There’s no evidence about who photoshopped the image. There’s no thread of a story about another Jyllands-Posten type incident brewing.
Some kind of unreasonable response like trying to ban pork in singapore would be a story (especially with a 75% chinese population right at the lunar new year). But this looks like a CEO who recognizes a food taboo among a minority of his customers.
Sure the truth could be worse and terrible things could happen, but Jihadwatch doesn’t lack for endless actual stories about islam’s ignorant enablers, creeping sharia, not to mention horrific violence.
The post seemed to me to be an invitation to laugh at the thought of tricking someone into breaking a taboo – a taboo which in itself is fairly innocuous. This doesn’t seem helpful to the counter jihad movement. Any further reading into the incident (at least based on the article) requires conjecture – which in my opinion is also not helpful.
