The women were lined up to receive food at a maternity and women’s clinic when the jihadists opened fire. It is unclear from this report whether the clinic was government-run, and hence offensive to the jihadists on that basis, or whether they merely wanted to demonstrate the government’s weakness and the inability of the police to provide adequate protection, or had some other motive. In any case, they apparently got away unscathed to wage jihad again another day. And the world will little note nor strongly condemn this murderous savagery, for it is jihad, and to speak out too loudly against it would be “Islamophobic.”
MEHTARLAM, Afghanistan, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — One child and two policemen were killed while five women were wounded Saturday when militants opened fire on women, who line up to receive food at a maternity and women’s clinic in eastern Afghan province of Laghman, sources said.
The shooting occurred at Hallokhil Maternity and Women’s Clinic in Alinigar district at around 11 a.m. (local time), eastern of the provincial capital Mehtarlam city, the provincial government said in a statement.
“One seven-year-old child and two Afghan Local Police cops were martyred and five women got gunshot wounds in the incident,” the statement said.
About two hours following the attack, five civilians were wounded after the militants fired five rounds of mortar shell on the neighboring Alishing district, according to the statement.
The statement blamed the armed opponents, a term referring to the Taliban insurgent group for the attacks. However, the Taliban has yet to make comments.
