Just recently I pointed out how the Obama administration’s prosecution of Dinesh D’Souza was an example of how Obama is using U.S. government and law enforcement agencies to hound his political opponents. While that is true, it doesn’t remotely mean that D’Souza is right about everything, or much of anything. When he and I debated at CPAC 2007 and on several radio shows, he stuck steadfastly to the dogma that Islam was a religion of peace, without remotely succeeding in establishing it, or being able to specifically name any of the “conservative Muslims” with whom he was advocating an alliance.
D’Souza embodies the abysmal and truly dangerous ignorance of the mainstream Right about Islam, jihad, and related issues — including, as you can see here, Israel. He hasn’t the faintest idea that Israel is on the front line of the global jihad or that the claim that it is an apartheid state is an invention of pro-jihad propagandists designed precisely to bamboozle and intimidate people like D’Souza into thinking that Israel is tainted and that his support for the Jewish State should be tentative at best.
There are far too many people who think like D’Souza, or worse, in the leadership of the Republican Party — which is why that party has been so spectacularly feeble and clueless in its response to Obama’s increasingly open support for Islamic supremacist forces both at home and overseas.
“Dinesh D’Souza Gets Israel Wrong in Acclaimed Debate with Bill Ayers,” by Sam Levine in PJ Lifestyle, February 3:
After their anticipated debate at Dartmouth College, Dinesh D’Souza and Bill Ayers took questions from the audience.
D’Souza’s answer to an audience member’s question about Israel was unfortunate (see 1:31:31 of the debate).
The audience member libeled Israel as an apartheid state, accused it of codifying into law discrimination against Arabs, then asked the debaters why the United States supports such a country.
The answer to this question is obvious.
Israel is not an apartheid state.
More than 1 million Arabs live in Israel and have full civil rights. Arabs constitute 10 percent of the Israeli parliament, and one sits on the Israeli Supreme Court. Arabs make up a large portion of the student population at elite Israeli universities where Arabs teach and have full tenure. The only place where Arabs have freedom of speech and association is in Israel.
Hundreds of gay Palestinian Arabs have actually fled to Israel because of fear for their lives due to their sexual orientation.
Meanwhile, Palestinian President Abbas states openly that not a single Jew will be allowed in a future Palestinian state. In Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to drive. In Iran gays are hanged. There is plenty of apartheid in the Middle East, but it is not happening in Israel.
But did D’Souza mention any of this? Nope.
Instead, he tacitly agreed that Israel is an apartheid state by not challenging that accusation in his answer, and ranting on about how much different Israel is than the United States. He then spoke about how all countries are flawed, saying, “We also recognize we live in a big world, and in a big world, we make allies with people, some of whom we agree with 100%, and some of whom we agree with 5%. Why? Because foreign policy is based on the principle of the lesser evil. And you sometimes ally even with the bad guy to get rid of the worse guy.” Wow.
The implication clearly being that Israel is a bad guy, but, hey, we allied with Joseph Stalin, too.
He then stated, “We have to recognize that Israel’s fate—certainly over the last 50 years—is bound up with ours, for better or worse, so, ya know, it’s a tough spot. I don’t agree with everything Israel does. I’m not saying we should be giving billions in aid to Israel, or Egypt for that matter,” indicating that Israel is a liability for the United States….

Let’s talk about Muhammad’s sexual orientations!

Judging by the lack of comments, seems like nobody much cares what Dinesh says or does.
But about your comment Robert: “D’Souza embodies the abysmal and truly dangerous ignorance of the mainstream Right about Islam, jihad, and related issues — including, as you can see here, Israel.”
I am at a loss to identify another prominent member of the “mainstream Right “that publically articulates this stance regarding Islam.
They don’t seem to be sayin much on this issue. So are we just assuming they are ignorant because they are silent about it?
I would be very interested in your thoughts on this.

Come up with a list of any five prominent members of the mainstream Right, and I could show you from an hour or two of unremarkable Googling their abysmal ignorance of the problem of Islam. They may not go the extra mile Dinesh goes in also locating high morals in Islamic Values, but the damage is approximately the same.

Well, Dave, there are these two Republican governors, to start:
“Chris Christie’s Islam Problem”

“Rick Perry: The pro-Shariah candidate?”
http://www.salon.com/2011/08/10/rick_perry_muslims/
Certainly, the Left tends to be much worse overall at cluelessly appeasing Islam than the Right—but the Right is hardly immune, either.
That is, in fact, the problem—that so many on both sides of the aisle remain in deep denial about the Jihad threat.

D’Souza wrote a very good book called “The End of Racism” which was a big (positive) influence on my intellectual development. If tyou are reading this, Dinesh, please consider where you are headed. Read the Koran (etc) and understand it is not about skin clour any more but belief.

Sorry about mistakes…not concentrating.

Clearly D’Souza is not yet properly attuned to reality and thus takes Muslim propaganda about Israel as factual. He needs some education about Judaism and Islam to understand what Israel has to deal with in order to survive.
I am really disappointed in D’Souza because he gave an inteligent inmpression ast his lectures on TV. Where does he live? He needs to learn about judaism and Islam and also go to visit Israel and surrounding Muslim countries before he ever speaks about Israel.

I was visiting, about five years ago the town of Akko, which is a half and half town. I was staying at the Arab Youth Hostel, not being an Arab myself. Walking the walls of the old Crusaders fortress I passed by an Arab family who invited e to take food with them. They were Jordanians, the man being a Colonel in the Jordanian Army. They were in Israel for medical care. He ad been coming for several years. No problem. Then I met two young Israeli Arabs, students at the Technion University on Mt. Carmel, Haifa. They complained about not easily finding jobs but said that the same problems they faced were also faced by Jewish youth seeking employment. The state of Israel was paying for their education. Just an interesting story that many anti-Israel people don’t know about.

No matter what Israel will do for Muslims and Islam they and the west will hate her and the Jews everywhere. That’s something I can’t understand.

I think a lot of conservatives don’t post or respond because they feel it is a useless endeavor. I have spent several days trying to counteract another misguided person on another conservative blog to no avail.

He also casually called both the Vietnam and Iraq wars mistakes, encouraging Ayers’ depiction of the U.S. as an evil imperial aggressor. It seems he should stick to domestic policy issues because his lack of nuance about foreign affairs will just discredit the conservative community in the eyes of the public.

How about giving citizens like Bill Ayres, all those who have made millions in our country and hate America, a one-way ticket to Lower Slobovia! Or how about Saudi Arabia? Or maybe Nigeria?

dear Mr.Spencer
these are key points raised on the issue of israel apartheid state by a left pro palestinian I’ve debated unfortunately not well due to my lack of academic skills in jerusalem post/comments
Bantustan – israel cannot be excused for palestinians living outside the green line, no economy, nor army etc
Coloureds escaped rural Haryana – africans stopped in israel and not egypt etc its no different to Coloureds. thus SA apartheid state was good to certain minority yet the title apartheid didn’t escaped.
genetics khazar – late research suggest jews today have no connection to jews lived roman era etc. although it has benefit too 1.does not favor islamic narrative 2.nor of white nationalist narrative.
ethnic cleansing – zionism based on elimination of an ethnic group despite jews until 48 were purchasing lands from landowners/ottoman. when mentioned that detail. they had no right to do that thus selling lands to jews that are not actually belong to them but to “palestinians”.

The Khazar” canard is antisemtic bs—simply intended to claim that Jews historically had no link whatsoever to Israel. Not surprisingly, this also overlooks the fact that Jews have lived in the Levant continuously over the past three thousand-plus years—the idea that they all came from Europe is ahistorical to begin with.
And your assertion that Jews buying land is “ethnic cleansing”, but refusing to sell to Jews because they are Jews is not is bizarrely twisted “logic”.
ygalg says
dear gravenimage I understand your sentiments but this time it involved jewish scientists. and waving the anti semite card which is similar to Reductio ad Hitlerum fallacy.
The Khazar issue requires apolitical scientific approach. if indeed there is truth in it, then we have to admit it is.
herzl didn’t based his ideas on history back to roman era. so it is a little of issue. it is however might be a little blow to religious and to these of us who romance the idea there historical connection. khazar regard only the ashkenazi jews. where mizrahi jews supposedly belong to a separate group.
on the bright side khazar jews founded kiev once russia’s capital, now ukraine’s. khazars were people who fought muslim invaders.
it a great blow to anti semitic supremacists and muslims as it discredit islam.
