Here is yet more indication that the Muslim Brotherhood’s fall from power in Egypt doesn’t mean that the country is now dominated by Western-oriented secularists. Even some supporters of the regime are clearly Sharia supremacists. Shaheen’s recommendation here is straight from the Qur’an: “Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment.” — Qur’an 5:33
“Pro-coup Sheikh calls for crucifying, cutting off hands of Muslim Brotherhood affiliates,” from the Middle East Monitor, February 22 (thanks to Halal Pork Shop):
The pro-coup Al-Azhar Sheikh Mazhar Shaheen demanded the application of Sharia against the Muslim Brotherhood by “cutting off their hands, crucifying them, and sending them to exile.”
In an interview with the military-controlled Tahrir channel, Shaheen called for including the punishments of “crucifying and cutting off hands and legs” among criminal punishments in the “Anti-terrorism law.”
Shaheen also called for banning students affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood from continuing college, because of their role in instigating protests.
