Here again, when have you ever seen this kind of indignation, this resoluteness to resist, directed by peaceful Muslims against jihad terrorists? Self-proclaimed moderate Muslim spokesmen spend all their time explaining to Infidels how Islam teaches peace and tolerance, and how only greasy Islamophobes teach otherwise. There are no significant Muslim efforts to dissuade Muslims who think jihad involves violence and the subjugation of unbelievers that their understanding of Islam is wrong on Islamic grounds. But Valentine’s Day? They’re all over that!
“Big No to Valentine’s Day in Kashmir,” by Farooq Ganai for OnIslam, February 14:
SRINAGAR: Terming the celebrations of valentine day as a part of western culture, young boys and girls in Indian administered Kashmir say that the move is not only antisocial but anti-Islamic also, though a separatist organization Dukthran-e-Milat (Daughters of Kashmir) has banned the valentine day celebrations in the valley since long.
“Valentine day for Kashmiri Muslims means yet another attack on the already hit social life which has suffered a lot during the last twenty four years of conflict and this is completely anti-Islamic so we must avoid such moves which are western in nature” Mohd Abass Bhat told Onislam.net, adding there is no place for such type of the events in Kashmiri culture.
He said, Kashmir is home of Sufis and saints who have protected the culture and have imparted education which speaks volumes of cultural ethos, so adopting western culture will harm the society which otherwise has already eroded from the basic guidelines of a Muslim society.
“The event is anti-Islamic and Muslims are not allowed to celebrate the day because in Islam the day has no importance”, Mohd Akram Wani student of Institute of Arabic and Islamic studies Srinagar said
He says, the Muslims have been entrusted with a syllabus (Guide line) before in 1435 Hijri and whatever is written in Quran cannot be changed. “For Muslim nothing is important which is not mentioned in Holy Quran and Suna (Hadith) the real guide for a Muslim”.
“Unless the Madrasas in Kashmir are not given free hand to teach the youngsters the moral education besides religious education and same is not incorporated in the educational curriculum people mostly young generation will get infected by the western ideas and traditions”, he added.
For a college girl Bisma Ashraf, valentine day is an addition to the western culture as it only qualifies ways and means that leads to the destruction of social fabric of Kashmiri Muslims.
“We have lost most of the traditions may it be dresses or the living standard to the western culture but now Kashmiris are not going to adopt this type of westernization which exposes our youth to obscenity”, Bisma told Onislam.net.
If one will ask the young couples about the speciality of the day perhaps very less people know about the importance of the day even though they celebrate the day, said Munaza Akther who is perusing PG in Education at Kashmir University.
Yong generation mostly girls should come forward and fight against this social evil which is fatal for the coming generation, she added.
Born and brought up in Indian capital state Delhi, Saima Amin, believes that the valentine day has a special significance in the society of present generation. “The day reminds us of some special relations and this day I spend the day with my friends” she told Onislam.net, adding, “I fail to understand why people oppose this move which otherwise bring two friends close to each other”.
Showing cold shoulders to the celebrations, Altaf Hussian term it lust not love. “Why should a young boy and girl go to a hotel to celebrate the day when they know they can otherwise bestow their wishes to each other by other means also” he said, adding, “We must not encourage such type of move which is dangerous for our society”.
Activists of separatist organization Dukthran-e-Milat (Daughters of Kashmir) are right by banning the valentine day celebrations in Indian administered Kashmir as it puts end to the ills which had otherwise engulfed the youth of valley.
“Though the youth in Kashmir call it (Valentine’s Day), a day of love, but our organization has been calling it as the day of obscenity and vulgarity,” the women activists of Dukthran-e-Milat told Onislam.net, adding, “ Love is which GOD ‘ALLAH’ has permitted, this type of love is lust not love”.
She said the organization has already warned the young couples of the bad consequences of the celebrations. “Alhamdulillah people here understand as how the Valentine’s Day is against the Muslims of Kashmir”, she added.
Dukthran-e-Milat Volunteers on the day conduct raids on all the hotels, parks and gardens besides the internet cafes and cafeterias on the Valentine’s Day to thwart the celebrations, said Amreena Hassan from Srinagar, adding, despite that people particularly youngsters attempt to celebrate the day by using social media like Face book and twitter.
She appealed the young boys and girls to remain apart from the celebrations, saying Valentine Day is even opposed by the Hindu organizations across India then why should we Muslims celebrate it.
“There is no place for any such thing which is western in nature, these types of celebrations teach us nothing so we must not celebrate the day”, Amreena added.
“Being a Muslim girl I should oppose all that which is not permissible in Islam, so there is no question of celebrating the valentine Day” Iqra Rashid told Onislam.net, adding though some young boys and girls still believe in the western culture because it is very easy to adopt than that of adopting the path which leads one to the life of a practising Muslim.
A young advocate, Khurshid Ahmad Wani from Doru Munsiff Court in south Kashmir termed the celebrations of valentine day as intrusion to the culture of whole of the south Asia. He said the celebration of the day is not only against the Muslim religion but other thoughts of schools also.
“It is western people who want to create hegemony on the minds and hearts of the people particularly Muslims all over the world”, Advocate Khurshid Wani told Onislam.net.
The religious organizations have already launched a campaign against the western culture which according to them has not only affected the young girls and boys but has ruined the society as whole.
“Every Muslim whether young or old, male or female must follow the path of Prophet Muhammad SW (Peace be upon him) and go by the lessons taught in Holy Quran and Hadith”, Moulvi Mohammad Arif, a local Imam in Central Kashmir told Onislam.net.
He said, for a Muslim these things are meaningless and we Kashmiris must understand that such moves are direct attack on young minds of Kashmir.
“All that is to be followed by the young Kashmiri boys and girls is to adopt the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad SW (peace be upon him) and young couples must not encourage such irrelevant ideas which has bearing on the society”, Moulvi Arif told Onislam.net
Another religious scholar, Shabir Ahmad of south Kashmir term the Valentine ’s Day meaningless and said that youngsters must not encourage these types of festivities as these are western in nature.
“Why should we celebrate valentine day when we know the day has no meaning for the Muslims, instead we should follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad SW. For western culture there is no place in our society”, Shabir told Onislam.net.

Love involves the willful intent to serve the well being of another, it stems from the intellect and will; it involves purpose, esteem and respect; it involves choice.
You can’t arrange a marriage for your 12 year old daughter to an old man if she allowed the freedom to think for herself.

What a litany of dreariness and misery!
Is “lust” so shocking and to be so much frowned on? Then why allow all those old men to marry young girls? Surely if lust is so awful to Muslims it must be even WORSE in old people? Muslims are hypocrytes, because they endorse lust (male lust, that is) but have such scorn for romance, which is a LOVELY environment for the begetting of new life. They want male/female relationships to be purely about the satisfaction of male lust, even as they pretend to be weirdly asexual.
Talking of “sufis and saints”, do we never, ever hear the day being referred to any more as “Saint Valentine’s Day”? Westerners themselves are easily impressed by the idea of “sufi saints” (many who were killers, but never mind that) but Christian saints? Pfft! Gone! Out the window!

Let\’s be clear: this is about non-Muslims observing something that Muslims don\’t want. A day of love, candy, joy–fun for school children. The only time you see Muslims handing out candy and rejoicing is when there has been murder and bloodshed. Lather, rinse, repeat.

The hideous “Prophet”—who married a six-year-old child, raped women whose husbands he had just murdered, and took sex slaves knew that there was no place for romantic love in Islam. *Ugh*.

Hello to everyone. I have to agree that s. Valentine’s day is too consumist. I want to know more about Islam , I have worked in UAE and there the local population is more educated and much more open minded that the image that we have from muslims in the West. Also there is the Arab culture and the Islam and that are completely diferent things

Mate: Muslims aren’t, at bottom, against Valentine’s Day because it is or has become “consumerist”. They’re against it because it is a non-Muslim festival. Classical Islam requires Muslims to reject everything not-Muslim.
Classical Islam criminalises, inter alia, the keeping of pet dogs, the playing of stringed instruments and flutes and indeed all music both sacred and profane (there is not *one* mention of anybody singing in the Islamic paradise – read the Quran and look for *any* mention of music or singing in all the descriptions of ‘paradise’ – you won’t find *any* – there’s no jazz pianist or blues singer in allah’s ‘heavenly’ brothel), the painting of images of living beings (Rembrandt portraits are haram! haram!), and the carving of sculptures (which is why the Saudis happily paid the money to cover the cost of blowing up the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan). The sharia of Islam bans *church bells*.
That isn’t some sort of fringe thing. That is straight by-the-book orthodox Islam. Imagine someone burning the Rijksmuseum with all the Rembrandts and Vermeers inside it; imagine someone burning the Louvre to the ground, and dynamiting the Paris Opera; imagine someone smashing every single stained-glass-window in Notre Dame Cathedral; imagine someone with a hammer smashing the Pieta to dust and the ‘David’ of Michelangelo. *That*, I guarantee, would happen, sooner or later, if the Muslims take Europe. And every bell in every church would be taken down and smashed, or melted down.
And mate, re the UAE – I am an Aussie non-Muslim, female, and I would not live in that pit if you *paid* me to do it. Not for a million, two million, ten million dollars. Because in that UAE you laud so highly, foreign women have been raped…and then, when they reported the rape, they have been *jailed*, forsooth, for having committed the crime of illegal sexual intercourse. Then there was a Jewish doctor from South Africa, who had once worked in that hell-pit, who years later was hauled off a plane in transit and basically falsely accused of murder because during his time in the Gulf one of his child patients had died of an – incurable – cancer. Oh suuuure the UAE is such a wonderful place….
You seem also to be forgetting all those virtual slaves who built the place; all those foreign maids and labourers, many of them non-Muslim, and others Muslim but non-Arab, who are exploited and overworked and generally treated like sh*t.
As for the distinction you attempt to draw between ‘Arab’ culture and Islam: Islam is to Arab as Nazism was to German, except that the Arabs have been nearly 100 percent in thrall to the ideology of Islam for over a thousand years (imagine if Hitler’s Reich had succeeded, and Nazism had become *the* dominant or indeed the *only* expression of being-German – that’s what’s happened with being-Arab, it’s become all about being-Muslim). The only non-Muslim ‘Arabs’ are a tiny remnant of Arabic-speaking Christians in places like Jordan and Iraq and Syria, and they also are heavily dhimmified, their psyches and culture warped by centuries of precariously surviving in an environment suffused with Islam. Islam is total and totalitarian; Islam *suffuses* the ‘culture’; to try to distinguish Islam from ‘the culture’, at this stage, is almost impossible, because most Arabic speaking Christians, who might be used to represent an Arab non-Islamic culture, have lived as dhimmis under Islam for so long, and in any case are often ancestrally *non-Arab* by ethnicity – Copts in Egypt, Maronites in Lebanon, Armenians and Assyrians in Syria, Syriac Christians in Iraq.
PS – You might try sounding out those wonderful ‘educated’ and ‘open minded’ UAE Muslims you know, as to their views on the following subjects: 1/ Israel, and Jews in general 2/ apostates from Islam and what should happen to them – what would *they* (your UAE Muslim friends or colleagues) do if a close family member of *theirs* declared him or herself to be a convert to Christianity, or an atheist a la Ayaan Hirsi Ali?? 3/ critics of Islam – the Mohammed cartoonists, etc; what should happen to people who criticise, question, or make fun of Islam, Islamic teachings, Mohammed, Muslims, etc and 4/ marriage of Muslim women to non-Muslim males who *do not convert to Islam either before the marriage or after*, i.e, ask them if they would permit their *daughter* or *sister* to marry a non-Muslim man if that man were fully intending to remain a non-Muslim and never convert to Islam. Ask them what they think on those four issues. I suspect you might get a bit of a fright.

Surely you realize that that is not the point, Marco. This is about pious Muslims prohibiting others—both Muslims and in many cases Infidels—from expressing any gesture of romantic love. That is completely different from deciding that you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day in a less commercial manner, or to simply skip it entirely.

Marco, holding hands and kissing in public are illegal in the UAE—is this “open minded”?
Worse, the UAE regularly arrests and imprisons rape victims for “admitting they have had sex outside of marriage”. How “open minded” is *that*?
Although persecution is not as vicious as in some parts of Dar-al-Islam, there is little freedom of religion there. There are severe restrictions on freedom of speech and freedom of the press there, all along islamic lines. Others have been arrested for making satirical videos.
Then there is the matter of Islamic “Honor Killings”.
You may have missed these stories—though there are a great many of them.
