New Jersey Muslima and Hamas-linked CAIR complain to EEOC: boss told her to remove hijab for safety concerns

Feb 8, 2014 3:14 pm By Robert Spencer

NaimaMnasri

The company says it’s a safety issue, but Hamas-linked CAIR and Naima Mnasri (whose Facebook page, pictured above, sports the pro-Muslim Brotherhood Rabia symbol), aren’t buying it: they are sure it is “Islamophobia,” and you greasy Islamophobic Infidels know what you can do with your safety concerns. Safety concerns are jahiliyya! Sure, just a couple of weeks ago in Montreal, a Muslim woman got her hijab caught in an escalator and was killed, but it was the will of Allah! Wherever Islamic law and American law, conflict, American law must give way! There is no negotiation or compromise on this point, kaffir!

“N.J. Muslim woman claims bosses ordered her to remove headscarf,” by Carol Kuruvilla for the New York Daily News, February 8:

A Muslim woman is crying foul after managers at a New Jersey factory told her to take off her headscarf.

Naima Mnasri, of Elmwood Park, claims her supervisor at Paradigm Packaging told her to get rid of her hijab, a religious head covering. According to NJ.com, the boss said it was a safety issue. But Mnasri called it religious discrimination.

“She informed the supervisor that it is a fundamental part of her religion that she wears her headscarf, as she is an observant Muslim,” a complaint filed by New Jersey’s Council on American-Islamic Relations reads. “The supervisor restated that she remove her headscarf for safety concerns and added that no religious symbol is permitted in the factory.”

The incident happened on Mnasri’s second day of work at the plastic vitamin bottling company in Saddle Brook. She was waiting for an assignment when the supervisor came by and “singled” her out. The day before, she had reportedly worked at the factory without a problem.

The frustrated woman went over to a floor manager about the issue, only to hear the same order repeated yet again. She left the job that same day.

CAIR-NJ filed a complaint on her behalf with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The organization’s civil rights director Khurrum Ali said that Paradigm Packaging didn’t try to “reasonably accommodate” Mnasri’s religious beliefs.

“As required by the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, the company cannot require an employee to violate or forego a sincerely held religious belief as a term or condition of obtaining or retaining employment,”Ali wrote in the statement.

In the meantime, Mnasri has found another job through the same agency that placed her at Paradigm.

If this militant, and arrogant Muslima doesn’t want to abide by legitimate safety concerns, then perhaps it’s time to look for work elsewhere …..like maybe the Gladbag factory down the street.

No, this Muslima wants the company to bow down to Islam and be a good little dhimmi. A Muslima tried the same thing by suing Disneyworld because Disney did not allow her to wear her hijab. Good for Disney.

Maybe she should go to the middle east to look for a job!!!! You know what she wants her cake and eat it too!!! If she goes there she could not even speak to a man who is not her husband. Bet money she doesn’t want that!!! These people slay me, they want us to close our eyes and look the other way. Well, I’m glad she quit, too bad she didn’t get that head scarf caught in the machine so the rest can see why you need to TAKE them off!!!!!!

Read the article that was linked in the article. It is not clear that the hijab was caught in the escalator teeth. It is clear that the scarf was caught.

I’m not saying hijabs are safe enough for the NJ factory job. But, the Montreal escalator story is not relevant if the hijab was not involved.

According to the latest police statement issued after preliminary inquiries (coroner’s inquest, I believe) it has been established that ‘HIJAB’ was in fact the cause of her death.
A few days ago Ezra Levant did showed this statement issued by a police spokes person on his talk show ‘The Source”. I am trying to find the link to this police statement will post it if I find it.

        Buraq,

I’ve been reading JW for a long time, and I’ve noticed that you are extremely fond of saying, “You’re a clown!” It’s getting old.

Take the time to read the whole article that is linked. (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/coroner-ids-woman-killed-escalator-accident-article-1.1599063)

When I saw the picture of the woman, I thought that perhaps they mistook a hijab for a silk scarf. But, reading further, I found that, “CTV Montreal reported that Rharouity was wearing both a hijab and scarf at the time of the accident.” Also, “[a]ccording to the station, authorities aren’t sure which item actually got stuck in the elevator.”

Also, reading further you will find an anonymous friend of the victim give an opinion. “Her hijab would have been tucked neatly under her winter coat and a long scarf,” the friend said. “I spoke to the person who was next to her when it happened and she says it was a scarf that got caught. I wear a hijab, too, and it just seems impossible that it could ever get caught in an escalator.”

Maybe evidence will surface tomorrow that the hijab was involved. Unless that happens, one should consider only the evidence that is presented.

With the current evidence, it is unclear whether the hijab was involved. Therefore, Spencer seems to have made an unwarranted assumption or or jumped to a conclusion in this instance.

I have been reading JW for many years, and I have followed Spencer in his debates. I find him to be a remarkably reliable and clear-headed scholar on the subject of jihad. I strongly support him. The unwarranted assumption made here is only a minor incident that should be noted. But, I don’t judge his entire, mountainous record on it.

I disagree with the sentiment of “Slevdi Davoteca” that this incident should discourage further reading of JW. That’s extreme.

And, it’s ridiculous for you to call him a clown under these circumstances.

      Feb 8, 2014 at 5:31 pm

Are you insane? Trouble finding commonality or patterns in things? The excess fabric from the hijab got caught in an escalator contributing to her death…an obvious safety hazard. The bosses at the factory want to avoid a safety hazard and the possibility of her getting injured, so they require her to take the possible safety hazard off. But it is obvious though isn’t it…if the Muslim’s at CAIR really “cair”-ed about her safety, they would probably not let her be a muslim.

    • RodSerling says

      Feb 8, 2014 at 7:58 pm

      Slevdi,

That tragic story out of Montreal is relevant here in that, according to the police reports [1], the woman’s (a) scarf, (b) hijab, and (c) hair got caught in the escalator, leading to her death (by severe brain trauma). The exact sequence of events is still under investigation, so I would agree with you, to the extent that it is at least premature to suggest that the hijab was the only or primary thing that got caught. That is, if it were not for the hijab, would that woman still be alive? We don’t know the answer to that, and it is misleading to suggest otherwise.

That said, that’s no reason to leave the site. You’re here, you’ve raised your criticisms. Stick around and press your case if you have more evidence and reasonable arguments.

      [1]
“Initial police reports indicated Rharouity was strangled to death when her scarf became caught in the escalator. Later police added her hair and hijab were also caught.”

Phew! Thanks for for your rational response with references. For a moment I thought I had landed in a loony bin:-)

As the police report said, it was the scarf that caused the problem. The hijab and hair got caught up later.

Of course, the other inmates posting their outrage here probably think we should all shave our heads too as the police report said scarf, hijab and hair got caught.

          Slevdi,

The most reliable-looking info I’ve seen on this issue to date is this, from a police statement quoted and confirmed by Ethan Cox:

“It’s too early to say what caused the death, that’s for the coroner to determine. On the police side we know three things got caught: an article of clothing, a hijab and her hair. We also know the order that they got caught, that it was the article of clothing, then the hijab and the hair.”

          http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2014/02/05/ethan-cox-dubious-reporting-on-a-tragic-situation/

        • Slevdi Davoteca says

          Feb 9, 2014 at 3:52 pm

That was my understanding too, and I didn’t think at his point in time it was a good reference to denounce the hijab as a safety hazard. Had the article used the reference linked by Medina, then it would have been clearly in support of the idea that the hijab is potentially a dangerous garment where machinery is concerned.

This thread has been a revelation to me. All I did was dispute the appropriateness of a reference in support of the idea that hijab is dangerous near machines. That this it is true is obvious, but the reference used wasn’t a good one (yet). But I have been called a clown, not so smart, slave and probably more that I haven’t read yet. What sort of objectivity do these posters have if all they can do is hurl insults at people that express views they disagree with?

Ok. Perhaps I was a tad extreme in my original post, but in this Internet Age of Extremes, gentle, inobtrusive criticism just gets ignored. At least I wasn’t ignored:-)

Thanks again to you for your rational, well supported and totally reasonable disagreement with my post.

Should the coroner’s report state the cause of death was the hijab – which it might do -, I will praise Robert for his foresight and retract my post.

Whether the hijab was to blame or not, it was human tragedy for which I feel sad for the family and friends she left behind.

Unrelated? The issue is loose clothing being got in machinery and a hijab is loose clothing. To identify it as such in a news piece is being accurate because this tragic event served as a reminder what happens when loose clothing- in this case a hijab- gets caught in machinery. Reality bites. And this is a tragic example that act as proof and validity of the safety in this matter.
I recall a while ago a Muslim woman died on an amusement ride in the states somewhere- I am relying on memory here. Loose clothing again caught in machinery. But when the issue of loose clothing was brought up and ride operators in other amusement parks tried to enforce a prohibition against it, there was an outcry by Muslims about Islamophobia when this safety rule was applied to the loose clothing that Muslim women wear. Loose clothing is loose clothing and it is dangerous around machines. So stop crying victimhood!

      • somehistory says

        Feb 9, 2014 at 6:04 pm

        You are so right.
Sometimes fingers, hands or feet get caught in machinery. Needing the fingers, hands and feet eliminate removing them for safety.
Scarves and other hanging clothing, such as neckties, loose sweaters, and those items worn by muslim women, are unnecessary and dangerous while working with machinery, whether industrial or farm related.
While working, items of loose clothing can, and often do, suddenly slip down, dropping away from the body and thereby causing the wearer to have difficulty. One may risk catching fingers, hands or even arms in the machinery as he/she tries to retrieve the article.
It isn’t that the cair people care about her. They just want to use it as leverage to get their way. Money and power. That’s the bottom line in these kinds of actions. If they can force the company to give in or be told by the courts to give in, they win. They win money awards and they win in forcing companies to give in before the suit of the next time a woman is told to take off the “scarf.”

There is a lesson to be taken from this. I would advise anyone running a business, and in need of hiring new employees: if you get a resume/CV with a Muslim name on it, immediately shred it or delete the email. Do not respond, do not invite the applicant for an interview, do not open yourself up to potential litigation.

The number of stories regarding Muslims suing employers is enormous. Even if the employer is in the right (which is almost always the case), the stress, loss of money in defending oneself, the time wasted, the negative publicity, and the potential threat of physical harm by violent, insane Muslim savages makes it so the defendant employer always loses.

What name would a Muslim who wanted to appear as a Christian choose? Christopher Christie … It sounds way too convenient to be a coincidence.

        I was merely being facetious.

As an interesting aside regarding the vitamin bottle factory, the editors of the Annals of Internal Medicine came out 2 months ago with their meta-analysis stating that multi-vitamins are worthless and a waste of money so maybe the Plaintiff was going to be laid off anyways as the vitamin market tanks ($28Billion industry a year!). Readers might want to search for that old wartime staged publicity photo of Veronica Lake with her gorgeous hair entwined around that drill press bit to help promote women workers’ safety in armament plants (not so much the “Oomph” Girl but the “Ow-ow-ow-ow-ow-oweeee” Girl) There was even a Yale Senior lady, who just a few weeks short of graduating last year, was working on a senior engineering project in a campus machine shop by herself and she did not heed the safety rules of putting her hair up in a hair-net and was scalped when her long hair got caught in a lathe and died. I have seen articles either here in J.W. or other sites that looked into the whole hijab/nijab controversy about it “being in the Koran” and it sounded like it was not and the wearing of it is more of a cultural thing specific to each country prior to Islam. Any thoughts?

The Koranic verse that mandates covering states, “O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies that they may thus be distinguished and not molested” (Koran 33:59)

      RRD,

The requirement that Muslim women must cover up is in the Qur’an (some of the main relevant verses: 24:31, 24:60, 33:53, 33:59, 7:26). Specifically, it is Muslim women of child-bearing age who are required to cover their feminine parts, bosoms, “beauty/adornments” (i.e., more covering than what the non-Muslim women of that time wore, so as to identify the Muslim women and prevent them from being harassed). The specifics are given in the Hadith, Sira, and Asbab al-Nuzul.

As far as I understand it, as with many other requirements of sharia, Muslim women are not required to wear such coverings that would put them in danger or cause them harm. At the same time, if Muslims abandon parts of their deen (system of life, system of obedience/submission), there is the fear among many Muslims that they will incur the wrath of Allah and put their souls in danger of hell-fire–a worse fate than death in this world. The Qur’an (and Hadith) calls upon Muslims to separate themselves from the non-Muslims, to preserve the integrity of the Islamic ummah and protect it from the “corruption” of the non-Muslims. The hijab in its variations is a kind of barrier that helps achieve this social segregation, in particular supporting the Islamic law forbidding Muslim women from associating with non-Muslim men.

Also, Muslims are required to strive for the acceptance of Islamic standards to the extent that they are able to do so, without bringing destruction upon themselves or Islam. In the modern West, with large influxes of Muslims and rapid increase in the size and strength of Muslim communities, this latter directive to strive for the establishment of Islamic standards fits neatly with Westerner’s attempts at making accommodations for Muslim religious practices.

In short, if a Muslim woman believes she is not in serious danger in wearing a hijab of some sort, she has to wear it, according to the Islamic scriptures and laws.

Isn’t the Arabic term translated in those Koran verses as “adornment” actually more accurately translated as pudenda?

New Jersey Muslima and Hamas-linked CAIR complain to EEOC: boss told her to remove hijab for safety concerns
    …………………..

    More lawfare.

My husband wears a beard; it is well trimmed like that of Mark Steyn and Robert Spencer, but if he ever decided to go into firefighting he would have to shave.

I have waist-length hair, but I would have to pin it up to be safe or sanitary in a lot of jobs.

There are also jobs where one has to wear a hair-net, or a uniform, or various special equipment.

I tend to wear my hair loose, and sometimes wear loose clothing and jewelery; but when I do etchings or printing—that is, work around acid baths and heavy equipment—I dress accordingly.

People are faced with these choices all the time—but only Muslims try to legislate Islamic norms over health and safety.

I hope Paradigm Packaging, the EEOC, Osha, and the US courts stand tough on this.
