Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Canada: Saudi Muslim who assaulted daughter says his actions “acceptable form of discipline” in his country

Mar 27, 2014 4:48 pm By Robert Spencer

Alshaek in courtOf course this is an acceptable form of discipline in Saudi Arabia. It’s in the Qur’an. Spousal abuse and the physical abuse of children are universal across all cultures, but only in Islam is it given divine sanction, both in the Qur’an and in Muhammad’s example:

“Good women are obedient….As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.” — Qur’an 4:34

Muhammad “struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?” — Aisha (Sahih Muslim 2127)

More on this story. “Man says he assaulted daughter as a means of discipline,” by Rosie Gillingham for the Telegram, March 25 (thanks to Ted Rinaldi):

A Saudi Arabian man who tried to choke his daughter told a St. John’s judge that such actions are “an acceptable form of discipline” in his country.

But Khalaf Alshaek insisted he meant no harm to the woman. Instead, he was trying to prevent her from making a mistake and shaming the family by marrying a man without their consent.

“I didn’t mean to hurt her,” the 56-year-old said during his sentencing hearing at provincial court.

“I did it out of love. My heart was in my hands.”

The 56-year-old — who has lived in St. John’s for the past three years — spoke with the help of a translator.

He was arrested Thursday night after a violent outburst, sparked when his daughter told him she wanted to marry a man from this province.

It began at Ches’s Fish ’n’ Chips restaurant on Freshwater Road in St. John’s, where Alshaek, his daughter and the man went together.

When the woman asked her father for approval to marry the man, Alshaek became angry and threatened them before leaving.

What Alshaek didn’t know was that his daughter and the man had secretly wed three days before. According to the facts of the case, read in court, the woman was too fearful of her father to admit they were married.

Shortly after that incident at Ches’s, the family went to a house on Lemarchant Road, where they had been staying. Once there, Alshaek attacked his daughter three times, wrapping his hands around her neck. Alshaek believed his daughter, who had always been quiet and shy, was being disobedient.

The woman, who was left with marks on her neck, feared her father would kill her. She managed to text her husband to call police, who took her father into custody.

Crown prosecutor Danny Murphy recommended a three-month jail term for Alshaek, with a year’s probation. Murphy noted that Alshaek would then be deported and would have trouble getting back into the country with a conviction.

Defence lawyer Rosellen Sullivan explained to the judge that Alshaek came to St. John’s — with his wife and some of his 10 children — to be a chaperone for his daughter, who is attending Memorial University on a scholarship.

She said what his daughter did was considered disrespectful in his country and that his actions were meant as a preventative measure.

“There are lots of cultural nuances in this case that we’re not used to,” she pointed out.

She said Alshaek has the support of the Saudi Arabian government and that she’s been in contact with the government’s legal counsel, which is willing to fly the family back to their home country.

“They’ve offered to give me plane tickets to bring to court to show you their sincerity,” Sullivan said.

She said to ease the court’s concern about the risk of assaulting the woman again, it would be best to sentence Alshaek to time served and have him leave Canada immediately.

“He won’t have an opportunity to see her,” she said.

Alshaek had his family members in court for proceedings. He apologized for what he did, apologized to the Canadian government, to the judge and thanked the lawyers.

He said if he had known his daughter was already married, he would not have reacted the way he did. His actions were an attempt to try and prevent her from making a mistake, he said.

He said in Saudi Arabia, it’s the parents’ responsibility to discipline their children if they see them doing anything inappropriate.

“It’s the duty of a parent,” Alshaek said, through the translator.

Alshaek said he gave up his job as a teacher in Saudi Arabia to come to Canada and help his daughter get a good education.

He broke down crying when he spoke of his love for his daughter.

“I did this out of love for her,” he said.

Judge Jim Walsh reserved his decision on sentencing until today, but told Sullivan that at that time, he wanted her to have proof that Alshaek would be leaving Canada.

He told her to have a plane ticket in court today, along with someone there to personally escort Alshaek back to Saudi Arabia.

Defence lawyer Rosellen Sullivan “There are lots of cultural nuances in this case that we’re not used to,” she pointed out.

Make sure her name is used often. Quote her frequently (cut and paste that sentence).

Make her regret taking that case and uttering that taqiyya (suggested by Saudis perhaps?).

“What difference does it make now, anyway?”

“The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

Ah yes, “cultural nuance” – a handy self-deluding euphemism for seventh century desert tribal male domination. If he were to kill her, as “honor” demands, that would presumably be “extreme” cultural nuance.

Huh-uh. Translation: Canada, accept these cultural nuances (instilled by Islam I might add) or you’re an unenlightend, bigoted nation.

Thus has PC/MC become so degenerate that a Western nation cannot impose its values and traditions, even its laws, on the Muslim immigrant but rather the other way around. PC/MC with greater and greater regularity puts forward excuses masqerading as arguments. It’s about as sickening and as much of a menace to Western Civilization as Islam is.

Yes exactly. As you may know I work in NYC. In Queens, NY there are dozens of pocket of immigrants who live in areas mostly of their kind. For example Chinese, Koreans, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis have their own enclaves and they try to keep their traditions. But unlike the Muslim enclave those other immigrants do not impose on others. Yet the muslim enclaves always looking and asking for their culture to be respected. Awhile back a An African Musilm in Queens was getting up at 4 AM and going around with a big drum and banging it at 4 AM announcing the call for prayers. It took police a while to stop him and threating him with jail before he gave up. It is this kind of S…. they try to pull all day long. M

Thank you, mr, for another narration by someone who knows Islam from the inside. Instructive, very much so, how Islam expects everyone to adjust to it. I think the origin of this control-freak behavior goes back to Mohammed himself, who was a control-freak to the max.

Disgusting character is Mohammed. No one with such a character, with such a mental make-up, has any business founding a world religion (not that the Karen Armstrongs of the world will ever realize this). That he did so represents one of the most monumental errors, one of the greatest tragedies, in all of mankind’s history.

Hope you and family are doing well. Take good care, mr.

As I have said many times tolerance is a one way street for Muslims, we have to tolerate their beliefs and customs but they show no tolerance for the host culture customs. That is how Islam spread to other countries by conquest and supression. Much the same as Nazism in fact.

“An acceptable form of discipline” in Saudi Arabia is, for instance, for the father of a girl who has embraced Christianity to cut her tongue out, lecture her on the Koran, douse her with petrol and burn her to death. “Not subject to retaliation” [for a killing] is “a father or mother … for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring” (Manual of Islamic Law o1.1-2).

In any case, any non-citizen convicted of an indictable offense is subject to having their permanent residence, work, study, or temporary residency permit terminated. CIC has already ordered him out of the country. Saudi’s problem now.

Isabella, you’d be surprised at the numbers of Westerners (and others) in Taiwan who hadn’t a dozen words of Chinese in all. It’s not so bad now as it was in times past, but the immigrants in our part of the world aren’t the only ones who have problems with host country languages. Indeed, foreigners without any Chinese or ideas about the local way of life were butts of jokes over there, too.

Then again, having lived as a resident alien in Taiwan, I readily admit that having the host country’s language does make things a lot easier–especially when it comes to getting along with the host country’s people!

There are three very disturbing features to the actions of the court.

The prosecutor only asked for a 3-month sentence for a serious case of assault and battery. Personal violence should be taken far more seriously than it seems to be in Canada. He stalked his daughter and tried to choke her 3 times. How does this merit only a 3 month sentence?

The second disturbing aspect is that the way the article was written, the man would be allowed to stay in Canada during the term of his probation. This is obviously insane. He should have been sentenced to a far longer term, and deported immediately upon release.

Finally, it is disturbing that the judge appears to be amenable to releasing the man without a jail sentence if he leaves the country immediately. Any country needs to demand respect for its laws. This man was a teacher in Saudi Arabia, supposedly educated. He certainly knew Canadian law, but didn’t care. He needs several years to reflect on his mistake, followed by the opportunity to share his insights with his Saudi students immediately on his release from prison.

This is one for the Canadians here present, posting or lurking.

Canadian jihadwatchers, this is happening on *your* turf: make sure that your elected representative, and also your prime minister and immigration and foreign affairs ministers, and their opposition ‘shadows’ into the bargain, are told – loud and clear, but as politely and briefly as possible – your views on this case. RonaldB above has made what appear to be some very sensible points; they need to be made to the Canadian authorities.

Make sure that the people to whom you write are made aware of the Islamic texts that Mr Spencer quoted in his commentary. Make sure they know the current stats and research results on so-called ‘honor’ murders; that the vast majority of such murders whether in the first world or the third world are committed by Muslims, and very often involve Muslim fathers or other close kin executing girls and young women for “crimes” that from our POV are no crimes at all.

Remind them about the death of Aqsa Parvez, who was murdered (strangled) by her Pakistani Muslim father, in Canada, at least partly because on occasion she refused to wear the mohammedan slave rag. Remind them of the other Canadian case of four girls and the unwanted wife from an Afghan Muslim family who were murdered – by the father and the other wife – and their bodies put in a car and dumped in a canal.

State that you see no reason why people who bring with them such a toxic, violent, abusive, misogynist complex of attitudes and practices should be admitted into Canada at all, in the first place. Demand that Muslim immigration into Canada – and, for that matter, Muslim entry into Canada for any reason, including “study” and “tourism” and “business” – should be ended.

Why bother to send him to jail (at tax payer expense) when kicking him out of the country achieves the same goal?
Why, after three years in the country, does he still need an interpreter?
Will his daughter be permitted to remain with her husband or will she be shipped back with him – where he will no doubt kill her?

Forget cultural stuff, a life is at stake.

  15. Michael Copeland says

The news coverage of this threat-to-kill case has been carefully sanitized: see http://gatesofvienna.net/2014/03/erasing-jim-from-the-picture/#more-32902 (JIM is Jihad, Islam, Muslim). Also missing from the picture is any reference to “Permissible Lying” – as in tears in court, declarations of paternal love, remorse and other well-known play-acting. The father was concerned with HIS honor, as HIS chattel had acted without HIS instruction or decision. That is terminal.

Please, Canadians, contact the judge in your hundreds. He is trained in Canadian law, not Islamic law, but he is a lawyer, and can cope with The Manual of Islamic Law.

o1.1-2 “Not subject to retaliation” [for a killing] is “a father or mother … for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring”.
r8: “Permissible Lying” (to non-muslims in the cause of Islam).

Excellent comment and insight. Truth be told, the core reason why these Muslim-Islamic fanatics have their view of the Western civilizations is due to their own moral and economic failings.

I would challenge one Muslim to show me a single Islamic country anywhere in which they have the paradise on earth that Islam promises when all present adhere to Sharia law.

The fact is that the kingpin of Islam, Saudi Arabia, is one of the root causes on which Islamic-Muslim terrorists base their reasoning for aggressive jihad. The SA royal family itself does not adhere to Sharia law but only when they see it expedient.

Osama bin Laden in fact took his inherited wealth and left SA since they viewed him as a threat. If he had his way, he’d have wiped out the Saudi royal family with his own terrorism. SA in fact instigates such hatred against Westerners with their Wahabi teachings, and then sits back to watch the horrors and sufferings inflicted with a great deal of glee and satisfaction.

This is exactly why multi – cultrualism doesn’t work. We see the same kind of garbage here in Australia; the courts pander to these people because of different ‘cultures’. Who cares what is acceptable in their home country; this is not one of their failing, desert s*** holes and they are best to remember that. The rule of law applies equally to everyone, regardless of whether they are aware of it or not.

If you want to migrate to a country, it should be mandatory to adopt the host countries values. If you refuse to integrate, then you are a liability. I always laugh to myself when I witness citizenship ceremonies; crowds of burqa clad Muslims pledging to uphold democracy and Australian values when they have no intention what – so -ever of doing so.
