Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Interfaith outreach in Nigeria: Muslims murder 16 Christians, destroy 200 Christian homes

Mar 6, 2014 4:09 pm By Robert Spencer

boko-haramIslamic jihad mass murder attacks are practically a daily occurrence in Nigeria now. When will Daniel Varisco and John Esposito hold a seminar at Georgetown University about Muslim persecution of Christians, its Islamic doctrinal bases, and what can be done about it? Or is such treatment only reserved for the chimera of “Islamophobia”?

“Muslim Gunmen in Nigeria Kill 16 Christians, Destroy Numerous Homes,” from Morning Star News, March 5:

JOS, Nigeria, March 5, 2014 (Morning Star News) – Armed gunmen believed to be Muslim Fulani herdsmen yesterday and early today attacked a cluster of villages in Plateau state, killing 16 Christians and destroying numerous homes, Christian leaders said.

The assailants, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, shot randomly as they struck Torok, Gwon, Gwarim, Gwareng and Rim villages in Rim District of the Riyom Local Government Area west of Jos. Musa Gunduma Dang of Gwon village said they killed his mother, wife, four children and three other relatives.

“They shot sporadically and set my house ablaze, killing all members of my family, and the entire village has been destroyed,” Dang said.

Daniel Bitrus Manjang, a pastor with the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), told Morning Star News the attacks were “very tragic.”

“About 200 houses were burned, and 16 Christians were killed,” said Manjang, a resident of Rim.

About 10 years ago Manjang lost his father, the Rev. Bitrus Manjang, a former COCIN vice president, to a similar attack in Rim village, he said.

The Rev. Patrick Kim, COCIN pastor in Gwarim, told Morning Star News by phone that the Muslim attackers invaded the villages at about 4 p.m., killing and destroying until 12:30 a.m.

The church leaders said two worship sanctuaries and residences of two COCIN pastors were among the buildings set ablaze.

They said it was the second such attack in the district in less than a week, as Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed two other Christians in Diyan late last week.

On Jan. 6, Muslim Fulani herdsmen killed 33 Christians in an attack on Shonong village in Riyom LGA in which Special Task Force soldiers assigned to protect the villagers were said to turn their weapons on them….

That’s why I keep saying Islam is not the real problem. Islam can be crushed in a jiffy were it not for these people. THEY are the real problem, they are the real enemy. They have blood on their hands.

Agreed, Salah. I too have commented numerous times here at JW to the effect that Islam is far less of a problem than is the covering up of Islam. Put another way, evil itself is less of a threat than is the obfuscation of evil.

I agree; but I disagree on who “these people” are who are obstructing and inhibiting our ability to take care of the primary problem.

Whitewashing Islamic evil is as bad as the evil. It encourages evil men to continue their crimes. Esposito, Varisco, look in the mirror.

“They have blood on their hands.” Huh? People are actually being murdered by muslimes, all over the world, in the name of islam and you resort to ludicrous hyperbole?

Blood thirsty, murderous bstrds. Just the kind of shahada addicts Allah likes.

I would agree that Daniel and John and others like them are enablers of jihad up to a point, but I’m not inclined to let Islam itself off any hooks.
They may depend on Islam to keep them employed, but Islam does not depend on them. Allah has no partners. Allah has been getting along just fine for 1400 years. The useful idiots John and Daniel are just a small drop in Allah’s bucket of blood, that he got by bleeding civilizations to death. If you support evil, you are evil. How does the glove fit Daniel/John?

I think this report is from an attack from a few days ago. I keep a close watch on Boko Haram, and it has been quiet for the first time in several days. It has been reported that many Boko Haram fighters have fled to Cameroon and Niger to regroup. Fleeing over the border is common practice, they will be back. Several fighters have been reported killed.
Al Jazeer reports 5 Government Colleges have been closed to safegaurd against attacks, it also states female were not killed last school attack because many were abducted

It’s sad to have to resort to AJ to get reports on Boko Haram as the US press doesn’t bother with it
Keep up the good work Jihad Watch

I saw a similar report. seems the hausa are up that side. that the fulah are involved a few hundred clicks SW in Jos indicates (in my mind) that a strange alliance has been formed and its all about power. … don’t know which tribe is richer; the fulah are in every state and reach to every village via markets day.

both are strong on the brotherhood but i’ll bet they have their own mosques

        Thanks for the reply.

I must correct myself. This isn’t Boko Haram but yet another group of Islamic mass murderers in Nigeria. Who apparently haven’t fled anywhere, and had killed 200 Christians back in December.

I also learned from the BBC that most people in North Nigeria accept Sharia as the form of Justice including the Christian population. Whether it’s Christian complicity is questionable on my part.

If you were a Christian living in northern Nigeria, or maybe, just a non muslim, would you really want to go around publicly denouncing sharia law? Do you think there would be no ramifications for doing so? Especially considering muslimes are killing people in Nigeria for nothing more than breathing while not-a-muslim?

I think the original news clip must have said something like “because of western military in Muslim countries, Muslims in Nigeria took action to make their country safe for Islam”. You kafirs here make it sound like the pious brothers did this for no reason. And believers have been clear when they do things like this it is because America is supporting Israel, or because France outlawed the hijab.

    • boakai ngombu says

      Mar 6, 2014 at 10:06 pm

your conjecture is erroneous. this has little to do with western military in Muslim countries.

slaves to SHARIA in Nigeria have decided that they must impose SHARIA for all of Nigeria for various reasons, like: it seems that the Allah god (unknowable; the best of all deceivers) wants the mosque to control all of the oil operation in the country – including the proceeds; it seems that the pious brothers are threatened by the truth about Jesus, as the truth varies from the supposedly inspired word of the KORAN, which somehow found its way into the porous mosque.

the pious brothers, as you termed them, murder, cripple, rape, pillage, rob, contaminate what was once a pleasant place having much beauty. and now hunger and death predominate because of the stranglehold enforced SHARIA has brought to most of the people, human beings all.

I think the jihad watch missed the point of so called Boko Haram. It’s created and sponsored by the evil government of Nigeria to destroy the whole northern Nigeria. They have been bombing mosques and churches killing people up to date more than 90% are Muslims. They have many strategies to divert world’s understanding. I am a survivor of Boko Haram violence to which I lost my brother.

I have read similar accounts blaming the Nigerian Government for sponsoring Boko Haram, mainly former and current Islamist Generals in the military. Who in turn tip Boko Haram off to avoid resistance. It would seem many countries look forward to funds from the west in the fight against terrorist groups. It is suspicious no one is sure where Boko Haram gets their funds from. The usual extortion, looting and kidnapping doesn’t account for their advanced steady supply of heavy weapons . I am starting to think North Nigeria may fall to separatists, like Sudan split because of overwhelming sectarian violence.

Sorry for the loss of your brother

Nura, I am terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. My deepest condolences.

As for the rest of your post, though, we have heard this *many* times—that there is no real Jihad, just Infidels out to ‘make Islam look bad’.

I’m sorry, but this is ridiculous. Boko Haram is a perfectly Islamic group—the idea that they were created by the hapless Goodluck Jonathan in order to oppress Muslims is simply absurd.

Observation. If Jihad Watch was included into the ‘Just Fancy That’ columns of the world media, the effect would be the same. The civilized world would still laugh at the beards, the turbans and their rhetoric, even the real-life murders, into submission; and given the dearth of material for the promising stand-up comic, feeding from JW’s dark but hilarious goldmine may require no permission, but a fair amount of gumption.

@Nura I completely disagree with you. I am a nigerian and lives in Nigeria This is the same lies perpetrated by muslims apologists or sympathizers who never want to admit Islam is the problem but claim its the fault of others. Its always the fault of the government who has ” has neglected to develop the region” they say or they will accuse of government of using highhandness in handling the issue. Some will attribute it to poverty or to some perceived grievences or injustices to muslims. With the help of aljareeza the televise trumped up stories of injustices or unlawful killings by the military of suspected boko haram insurgents. They never offer meaningful solutions but quick to criticize the government. Last time they were calling for the former chief of army staff major general Ihejirika to be arraigned at the ICC. I do rather agree that the crisis is fueled by northerm politicians who are opposed to the christian president. Their may concern is that sometimes muslims are killed although mainly christians are targeted. Just yesterday i was listening to a hausa programme, they commentator was basically complaining that boko haram lacked focus, initially they were attacking government properties , then christians and now public spaces that might include muslims. They muslim commentator was clearly comfortable with boko haram attacking government or christian interest. His main concern was that they appear to be attacking anybody these days. When they were attacking mainly christian interests , the so called muslim leaders were against any person speaking against the atrocities. They CAN ( christian association of nigeria ) president was repeatedly vilified for raising alarm until he stopped talking about it. In fact christians were accused of planting the bombs in churches just to make muslims to look bad. It is the same method by muslims everywhere deny that islam has anything to do with these atrocities but vehemently condemn whoever points out the role islam in these mayhem.
