Clearly the Nigerian government has lost control of the situation. It can’t stop Boko Haram, whose real name is the Party of the People of the Sunnah for Dawah and Jihad. They can do whatever they wish. And now they have achieved one of their primary goals, at least for the moment: stopping the children in Borno state from getting a Western education.
“Nigeria: Terrorist Threat Closes Nigerian Schools,” from the VOA via AllAfrica.com, March 18:
Authorities in Nigeria’s Borno state have shut down all public schools due to the threat posed by militant group Boko Haram.
The government ordered the closure of 85 primary and secondary schools last Friday, and the schools have remained shut this week, cutting off education to tens of thousands of students.
Boko Haram – whose name in the Hausa language means “Western education is forbidden” – is blamed for numerous attacks on schools and other government targets in northeastern Nigeria over the past few years.
Thousands of people have died in the violence. Efforts by Nigeria’s military to hunt down militants and halt the insurgency have failed to stop frequent large-scale attacks.
Last Friday, gunmen staged a brazen daytime attack on a military barracks in the state capital, Maiduguri, freeing some detained suspected militants.
Human Rights Watch says Boko Haram has launched attacks in more than 40 villages in northeastern Nigeria since the start of the year.
Bradamante says
So far, I’ve mostly heard our own government expressing concern about the Nigerian military violating the rights of Boko Haram. Where’s the outcry about Boko Haram violating the rights of everyone else?
mortimer says
The Nigerian government needs the help of Western police and intelligence agencies to round up the trouble-makers. It’s actually a civil war, but the Nigerians are treating it as mere policing action. They wait till a crime occurs before reacting. They need to arrest the jihadists BEFORE they commit crimes by invoking a state of insurrection and civil war that will provide police and military with enhanced powers. This has long been more than a simple police matter.

Of course, you’ve seen no such thing. Or do you have some evidence?
mortimer says
No problem.

To “mortimer” thank you for your reply. My comment was directed to “Bradamante”. Of course, Nigeria IS treating this like a state of emergency, as your Red Chinese newspaper says.

Our govt is controlled by a muslim brotherhood, sympathizer? Operative? He protects the jihadis in every way he can and will never speak out against them, after all he’s on their side.

“He protects the jihadis in every way he can”
The traitors in the White House are indeed protecting jihadists everywhere.
Egypt badly needs Apache helicopters in its fight against jihadist organizations in Sinai. The traitors in the W.H. said NO.
Guess who is siding with Egypt?
Don’t cancel sale of Apaches to Egypt, Israel urges U.S.

Why the hell would the islam0fascists who run Egypt need apaches to fight insurgents? Why the hell should my tax dollars be sent to support an islam0fascist state that persecutes people of other faiths and denigrates Jews and Israel?

Boko Haram and similar Jihadist organizations are DIRECTLY funded by Saudi money. They have uniforms and weaponry that can outgun the pathetic armies of African nation states. Why has the West refused to call out the Saudi’s and other Persian Gulf states funding these monsters? The level of appeasement to Islamic jihad by our elected leaders is entering the realm of treason. The stupidity of Western leadership has not been at this level since March 1914.
King Dave says
The USA has a 7 million dollar bounty on Boko Haram’s leader Abubakar Shekau, and it’s rumored a US drone was downed in neighboring Niger. The Nigerian President strongly opposes US drones, but not US money to combat terrorism.
Boko Haram has retreated to Niger along with the people they’ve displaced, free to prey on them again. There is little reason to suspect Niger will be a main area for renewed attacks.
Human rights group has condemned Nigerian forces for mistreatment of suspected Boko Haram members, mainly extra judicial killings and torture. Clearly this is necessary, Boko Haram shows no signs of surrender, armed with heavy weapons in one hand, a quran in the other.
Boko Haram is committing genocide, empowered by Islam. They are not misunderstand their holy books, they are merely obeying them.
The Islamist says
Boko Haram is doing what Westerners have been doing from the time they brought democracy to Iraq: Students go home for security!
enwhitenment says
Once upon a time a leader would lead their armies to battle be it to conquer or defend.
Today’s leaders of the “western world” stay safe at home.
Nigeria’s leaders are just westernised that’s all
I think the name “Goodluck” say’s it all

They say timing is everything. As a fan of the Moslem, I like to speculate on what’s the next country to fall into Dar al-Islam. It looks like Lebanon will be the next to go, it pretty much is already a done deal, although there are still many Phoenicians to get papers and the dough to be able to leave. After Lebanon goes full-bore Sharia, look for the next struggle to be on the faces of the Alawites and Druze.
But Nigeria is a dynamic place. Sure, they’ve got much higher proportion of Infidels to get rid of, but these Boko Haram guys are dynamic. The religious riot job they pulled around the Miss World contest was awesome.
