Pakistan: Christians accused of blasphemy remain in jail amid threats to judge and lawyers

Mar 4, 2014 1:36 pm By Robert Spencer

BlasphemyPakistan’s blasphemy laws are a human rights abuse that have caused and are causing the deaths, imprisonment, and the destruction of the lives of untold numbers of people — but the global “human rights community” is too busy wringing its hands over “Islamophobia” to take any significant notice.

“ASIA/PAKISTAN – Threats to judges and lawyers: two Christians accused of blasphemy remain in jail,” from Agenzia Fides, March 4:

Gojra (Agenzia Fides) – Two innocent Christians, Shafaqat Emmanuel, paralyzed, and his wife, Shagufta Kausar, accused of “blasphemy via sms” remain in the prison in Toba Tek Singh: The High Court in Lahore has in fact refused the request of release on bail, submitted by the defense lawyers. As denounced in a note sent to Fides by the Foundation “World Vision in Progress” (WVIP), that is following the case, “the judges of the High Court were initially convinced of what was said by the defense. But after pressure from Muslim religious leaders and the threats of extremists in Gojra, the judges denied bail, saying the case will be completed within two months. Radical Muslims had already threatened defense lawyers many times. Threatening letters have arrived to our NGO, to discourage us to defend the couple. In response to the threats, we have filed a petition to transfer the case to the High Court. But even these judges seem partial”.

The risk is, according to the NGO, that the High Court imposes death penalty to a sick man and 35 years in prison to his wife. Shafaqat who is now in the prison hospital, due to multiple bedsores will soon need surgery.

“We do not know for how long Shafaqat will be able to survive in prison, without assistance, in his condition”, notes the NGO.

“In Pakistan, terrible injustice with the misuse of the blasphemy law continues to be perpetrated. And the judges do not have the strength to restore justice” says to Fides Farrukh H.Saif, of WVIP.
Shafaqat Emmanuel and his wife, Shagufta Kausar, had been arrested in Gojra in July 2013 for allegedly sending blasphemous SMS text messages to local Muslims. The two have been subjected to torture by the police. Their four children now live with their grandfather. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 04/03/2014)

The point, which needs the consideration of all those who may concern, is that the State Religion of Pakistan is the FOUNDATION on which the building of blasphemy laws is built. Thus, it would be in the fitness of things to hit this foundation of religious hate at first. Then, the whole building built on it will fall down on the ground. One of the ways to hit this foundation of religious hate may be to sign and share this petition in solidarity with non-Muslim and non-believer victims of the State Religion: . Let the United Nations recognize The International Day Against State Religion. Thanks and regards.

The violent, fanatical reactions of Islamists to the blasphemy laws make a fair trial practically impossible…or any trial at all, since judges and defense lawyers are afraid for their lives, lest a result be displeasing to the fanatics.

Pakistan sowed the wind when they created their blasphemy laws. These laws can be used against virtually anyone, and once the accusation is lodged, there is almost nothing one can to do to disprove the charge to satisfy the Islamists.

The Islamists are only satisfied when the blasphemer is killed (whether the charge of blasphemy is proved or not). The Islamists are ready to murder at the drop of a hat.

Roughly 6 years ago, a Pakistani Christian preacher was arrested on blasphemy charges then disappeared from police custody, never to be seen again.

    Muslims – Violent losers.

We all know how violent religion and culture they have.
    but
    What about losers?
I’m not talking now about Israel.
For the last 200 years no Muslim army won a war against western army.
All declerations about “victory” come from terror organizations or popular uprising.
no army…. and they always come to battle with numerical superiority.

What about Muslims advancing human knowledge through science?
Well, 1000 years ago Muslims were ahead of European.
    but
you can count with your fingers of one hand how many inventions they gave us for the last 700 years….!!!!!!
    This is sad.
    so, blame Israel.

      @John Sorrentino

Yeah, they all didn’t know what the sign said.

Why don’t you go over there, do some research, and come
      back to us w/the results?

Where are the mass Christian sit-ins outside Pakistani diplomatic posts all over the Western world?

Thing I want to see: Pope Francis I rearranging his entire Lenten timetable and spending the whole of Lent sitting down on a mat outside the front door of the Pakistani Embassy in Italy, and daily reciting the Office and the Angelus on behalf of Aasia Bibi and Shafaqat Emmanuel and Shagufta Kausar and all the other persecuted and abused non-Muslims of Islamic Pakistan. And every day, at midday, having recited the Angelus, marching up to the front door with his clergy and *demanding* to see the Ambassador, and *demanding* that these persecuted Christians be released from durance vile, declared innocent, and permitted to leave Pakistan, with all their family, to live in a safer place.

Thing that would be good to see – *other* Christian leaders, such as the Archbishop of Canterbury, doing the *same* – assisted by their clergy and by indigenous and immigrant Christians, in relays – outside the Pakistani high commissions or embassies, in *their* countries of residence. Imagine a sit-in of hundreds of British and British Pakistani-background Christians, reciting morning and evening prayers every single day outside the Pakistani High Commission in London, and lighting candles and displaying big crosses and holding up protest banners with the faces of *all* the Christians known to have been murdered by Muslims in Pakistan in the past ten years, and *all* the Christians who have been screechingly accused of “Blasphemy!!”

Another thought: Pope Francis I could arrange a papal visit to Pakistan, to visit the Catholics who reside there…and, as soon as he was there, he should *publicly demand* that he be granted access to Aasia Bibi and other members of his flock who are in prison – because of their faith – in Pakistan, so that he may pray with them and give them the sacraments. And if Pakistan insolently and sneeringly rejects that perfectly reasonable and charitable request – a request made by a Christian priest, a request to make a pastoral visit to innocent people who are sick and suffering, who are in prison for no crime except the ‘thoughtcrime’ of rejecting the vile mohammed – then, at least in many Catholic majority countries, it should expose just how vile and vicious mohammedans and mohamemdan Pakistan actually are.

It would be good to see things like that happen DDA. Unfortunately though, in todays world, there don’t seem to be any leaders with any moral courage or masses of people in the Western world who are willing to take the time to stage mass protests for human rights issues that are not on the leftist agenda.

Someone should tell the Pakis that they are all blasphemers because they have rejected Jesus and follow a false prophet.

If they read that in the news, their heads might explode from anger. 😀 😀

And Western nations—the US in particular—continue to fork millions in “foreign aid” over to Pakistan, without so much as mentioning this horrific injustices. Disgusting.
