And the CIA and the Pentagon either didn’t know about it or couldn’t get a drone there in time to strike.” Maybe they were too busy engaging in “outreach” with Muslim groups linked to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, and too busy reassuring Muslim communities in the U.S. of their benign intentions, to pay any attention to this.

Washington (CNN) — A new video shows what looks like the largest and most dangerous gathering of al Qaeda in years. And the CIA and the Pentagon either didn’t know about it or couldn’t get a drone there in time to strike.

U.S. officials won’t comment on that, but every frame of the video is now being analyzed by the United States.

In the middle of the clip, the man known as al Qaeda’s crown prince, Nasir al-Wuhayshi, appears brazenly out in the open, greeting followers in Yemen. Al-Wuhayshi, the No. 2 leader of al Qaeda globally and the head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, has said he wants to attack the United States. But in the video, he looks unconcerned that he could be hit by an American drone.

The video started appearing on jihadist websites recently, drawing the attention of U.S. officials and global terrorism experts. U.S. officials say they believe it’s authentic….

The video shows al-Wuhayshi addressing more than 100 fighters somewhere within Yemen, Cruickshank said, a restive nation on the southwestern portion of the Arabian Peninsula. The al Qaeda leader, he said, is “taking a big risk in doing this.”

But he doesn’t mince words about his mission.

In a speech to the group, al-Wuhayshi makes it clear that he’s going after the United States, saying “We must eliminate the cross. … The bearer of the cross is America!”

U.S. officials believe the highly produced video is recent. With some fighters faces blurred, there is worry it signals a new round of plotting….

    I wonder if the CIA has any clue about separation of church and state enshrined in the US constitution vs sharia law, the aparhteid jurisprudence of Islam.

      Don’t be so paranoid….Amrika has the firepower to knock out these pretenders anytime… you know that. Why only yesterday on Al-Geezer-a the US Navy displayed it’s latest awesome laser weapon (which can cut through steel) to knock out rockets out of the sky (Malaysian MH370 where are you?).

      Next the lasers will be fitted to the drones and these people will not even know that they has been “lasered”. …what’s the problem?

      As for being a danger to Christians – just quit the religion problem solved.

  6. I don’t like the idea of sending a drone and indiscriminately blowing up a group of people. Besides, where we get to the point where our main line of defense is a remotely-guided drone, we’ve some pretty close to losing the war anyway.

    One problem with using drones is it allows a bloodless battle as far as most Americans are concerned. That is, someone else can do their fighting for them and they don’t have to face real issues. Another problem is that it doesn’t address the real and growing danger of Islamic subversion of our institutions through immigration and infiltration.

    We are far better off not depending on the bandaid of drone attacks, but facing the real dilemma of having to make a religious or philosophical criterion for immigration. We have to face the prospect of making a judgement in our institutions that some philosophies will not be recognized or expressed.

    We also have to disengage ourselves from Muslim politics. Most Muslim countries reach an intermediate point of stability with a dictator who doesn’t take Islam too seriously. By insisting on a democratic process, such as in Egypt, we actually expose ourselves to more danger. Our drone forces are dependent on local informants, so it’s likely that drones will be used in localized struggles for power. At best, this does us no good, and at worst, makes us the bull in the china shop, highly destructive and clueless.

      This is *not* something indigenous to Islam, Ronald—this was a mid-twentieth century post colonial phenomenon, for the most part.

      There are very few if any of these figures emerging now.

      Right now, much of the Muslim world is further Islamizing—either through (as you note) superficially “democratic” circumstances, or through fiat, as in Brunei.

    For one thing, Jesus’ work on the cross is finished! …so destroying crosses does *nothing* spiritually; since Christ lives within the heart of each and every true believer.     Freedom is one thing. Abuse of freedom is quite another. When the latter occurs, as it has many times here at JW, courtesy of Mr. Dude/Mr. Dumb, it is not indicative of a true and wise regard for liberty to allow the abuser to continue to abuse liberty.

    Just as The Constitution of the United States of America is not a suicide pact, as an Associate Justice of the United States’ Supreme Court, Robert Jackson, opined back in 1949, so is freedom not something that can be abused with the abuser all the while invoking freedom while harming or even destroying freedom, whether wittingly or unwittingly.

    For freedom to survive, not faux freedom but real freedom, a sense of responsibility coupled with common sense (and hopefully some graciousness too) must be present. Mr. Dude has failed miserably here. Good riddance to the silly bastard. He is not, of course, as much of a menace to freedom as Islam is (although I can’t entirely eliminate the possibility in my mind that he is actually a Muslim stirring up trouble as Muslims aplenty are so inclined to do), but his kind contribute in their own stupid and petty way to thwarting the real threats to freedom, like Marxism, Nazism and Islam. Such should be the legacy of such deficient human beings as Mr. Dude if good things like truth, common sense, graciousness and liberty prevail long term.
