Anisa Rawhani found that people were nicer to her when she wore hijab than when she didn’t, but that didn’t get in the way of her Muslims-are-victims narrative: she decided it was because they were “overcompensating” for their inherent racism and bigotry. That just goes to show that some people are impervious to facts, no matter how directly they’re confronted by them.
This story also shows why Hamas-linked CAIR and other Muslims have not hesitated to stoop even to fabricating “hate crimes,” including attacks on mosques. CAIR and other groups like it want and need hate crimes against Muslims, because they can use them for political points and as weapons to intimidate people into remaining silent about the jihad threat.
“‘People were polite, parents would shake my hand’: Canadian college blogger who wore a hijab for 18 days to reveal how racist her community is – finds people are actually NICER to her,” from the Daily Mail, April 12 (thanks to Jerk Chicken):
A Canadian college student recently conducted a social experiment to see if people treated her differently if she wore a hijab – a traditional Muslim veil that covers a woman’s head and chest – and what she discovered was a bit unexpected.
Anisa Rawhani, a third-year student at Queens University in Ontario, wore the traditional Muslim garb for 18 days in January as she worked at the university’s library, visited stores and restaurants near the campus and as she did volunteer work with local children.
According to Rawhani – who conducted the experiment to see if people in her community were racist towards minority groups – she noticed that people actually treated her more kindly and with more respect than when she didn’t wear the hijab.
Rawhani, who is not Muslim, wrote about her experience wearing traditional Muslim clothing in the March edition of the Queen’s Journal, where she works as a copy editor – the article is titled ‘Overt to Covert.’
‘At first I thought I was just imagining things. There’s no way this is actually happening,’ Rawhani told the Whig.com.
‘I went with my hijab and people were very nice, people were polite, parents would shake my hand, so the experience was all across the board in Kingston.’
In some cases, she says, she would go out with friends who weren’t wearing any identifying religious symbols and she was treated much nicer than they were.
‘There was this excess (of niceness) that I would experience that I couldn’t account for,’ she said. ‘Like really going the extra mile like smiling broadly and being so so polite, which I’ve never experienced before. It was a stark contrast that was going on that threw me for a loop.’
Rawhani discussed her findings with a psychology professor at her univertsity [sic] – she calls the interesting phenomenon an overcompensation.
‘It can be that someone actually does harbour racist tendencies but doesn’t want to look racist to others so they overcompensate in that way,’ she says.
She also says that it could stem from people who might think they have a bias but are trying to suppress it by being overly accommodating to people of other races or religions.
‘In general, just from my interactions, I think people honestly believe in equality and have those values but they just don’t know how to interact with minorities,’ she says.
Rawhani, who is of Iranian descent, was inspired by a similar experiment done in the United States, where women were asked to wear a hijab for a day and watch how people treated them.
‘The desire came from wanting to understand better because there is so much tension around the idea of covering,’ she says. ‘I wanted to understand why women in Islam cover and also how it can actually be difficult in our culture to be covering.’
‘There’s so many misconceptions and people think you’re oppressed and there are also issues of racism, that’s what prompted it,’ she continued.
‘People, culture and religion arn’t [sic] concepts you can understand on your own. Rather it’s through dialogue that we generate understanding and respect between people,’ Rawhani concluded.

PC/MC program error
The typical university indoctrination would encourage students ‘to provoke’ evidence to support the premise. If people dare to treat her nice then that should make the researching student even more determined and try harder to fit the narrative in place.That is to make students feel a vested interest in ‘proving’ the Muslims-are-victims in order to meet the PC approval guidelines of their assignment.

This silly young woman needs to be told by someone that if she wore the Cross of David or a Crucifix in sundry Muslim lands she would be in great danger. Yes, this in and of itself would not be enough to shake her out of her self-righteous ignorance, but she needs to be told this nonetheless as a first step towards her (possible) understanding of what Islam is really all about (and even more so for her gender).
There is disgusting and there is really disgusting. Really disgusting are those who enjoy the many freedoms established by the West continuing to defend Muslims when the religion Muslims believe in would destroy virtually all liberty if only given the chance. Put another way, disgusting is a totalitarian creed like Islam, while really disgusting are those possessed of profound ignorance like this young woman who shill for malevolence.
Again it should be obvious to those who are not blind that making excuses for evil is even worse than evil itself ( a la Ayn Rand). Here is another experiment that this non-Muslim female should try on for size.
She should try walking through the streets of any Muslim majority neighborhood wearing a t-shirt that reads – ‘I am an ex-Muslim’
She would not be met with such a ‘polite response’. She would be lucky to walk away with only a few bodily bruises and lingering nightmares.
We ex-Muslims living with Islam’s formal and informal death penalty for apostasy know that BOTH MALE AND FEMALE Muslims are trapped in a very dangerous religion that they can not easily walk away from.
If a Muslim announces to his or her family and community that they are leaving Islam because they no longer believe in or respect it, they basically have to pack their bags and leave town or spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulder hoping another Muslims doesn’t bury a knife in their back.
Islam is not a race. Nor is it a religion deserving of respect. A deadly and suffocating misogyny is built into the DNA of the cruel cult of Mohammedanism. Islam’s canonical texts are absolutely OVERFLOWING with such deadly misogyny.

Should Women Respect Muhammad and His Islam?
Muslims love to claim that Islam has granted women equal rights. Sadly, this is not true. The Quran states several times that women are to be granted less rights then those enjoyed by men.
This article will examine the status of women and their rights according to Islam, as well as some of the many disgusting things that Muhammad said regarding women.
The inherent oppression and degradation of women in Islam is abhorrent. For every good thing Muhammad’s Islam says about women, one can easily find a passage referring to women in the most unkindly of lights. Such is the reality of the fundamentally contradictory religion of Islam. One minute Islam is the perfect religion of peace and justice – the next it commands Muslims to maim, murder and subjugate others. Muslim women should learn the truth about Islam, and fast, if they truly care about their daughters and the future of women in general.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In controversial verse 4:34 of the Quran, men are told to beat their disobedient wives after first warning them and then sending them to sleep in separate beds. This horrendous verse approves of and even sanctions, domestic abuse. As we shall see momentarily, Islamic theology also permits slavery and rape. No person of sound mind and good heart could believe that this is the wish of god. Islam is nothing more than the cult of a long dead, selfish little mad man named Muhammad ibn Abdullah.
Quran, 4:34
Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme.
Here is an examination of how other translators render this controversial passage:
Pickthall: “and scourge them”
Yusuf Ali: “(And last) beat them (lightly)”
Al-Hilali/Khan: “(and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful)”
Shakir: “and beat them”
Sher Ali: “and chastise them”
Khalifa: “then you may (as a last alternative) beat them”
Arberry: “and beat them”
Rodwell: “and scourge them”
Sale: “and chastise them”
Asad: “then beat them”
The Quran permits men to marry up to four wives, and have sex with slave girls if they want to do so:
004:003 “If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice”
According to Muhammad and his Islam, a woman’s testimony is worth half that of a man’s:
Quran 002:282 “Get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her”
Hadith, Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 11, Number 2142:
Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab:
The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: A man will not be asked as to why he beat his wife.
Hadith, Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Bk .6, No. 301:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:
Once Allah’s Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o ‘Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, “O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).” They asked, “Why is it so, O Allah’s Apostle ?” He replied, “You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.” The women asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?” He said, “Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?” They replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn’t it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?” The women replied in the affirmative. He said, “This is the deficiency in her religion.”
The Quran allows men to marry pre-pubescent girls, stipulating that Islamic divorce procedures shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated.
Such of your women as have passed the age of monthly courses, for them the prescribed period, if ye have any doubts, is three months, and for those who have no courses (it is the same): for those who carry (life within their wombs), their period is until they deliver their burdens: and for those who fear Allah, He will make their path easy.
Mythical Muhammad the mad prophet of Islam was a deranged con man who has betrayed women. Here is some more of what Muhammad said and did:
Sahih Bukhari, Vol.4, Bk.54, No.460:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Apostle said, “If a husband calls his wife to his bed (i.e. to have sexual relation) and she refuses and causes him to sleep in anger, the angels will curse her till morning.”
Sahih Muslim, Book.008, Number.3371:
Abu Sirma said to Abu Sa’id al Khadri (Allah he pleased with him): 0 Abu Sa’id, did you hear Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) mentioning al-‘azl? He said: Yes, and added: We went out with Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) on the expedition to the Bi’l-Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women; and we desired them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, (but at the same time) we also desired ransom for them. So we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing ‘azl (Withdrawing the male sexual organ before emission of semen to avoid-conception). But we said: We are doing an act whereas Allah’s Messenger is amongst us; why not ask him? So we asked Allah’s Mes- senger (may peace be upon him), and he said: It does not matter if you do not do it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be born.
“By him in Whose Hand lies my life, a woman can not carry out the right of her Lord, till she carries out the right of her husband. And if he asks her to surrender herself [to him for sexual intercourse] she should not refuse him even if she is on a camel’s saddle.” — Ibn Majah 1854
We have come to learn (at least some of us have) that when it comes to promoting Islam it often doesn’t much matter if that promotion is mere enablement — the damage is done; the Jihad is advanced in one way or another. We have also come to learn that the enablement may stem from a Muslim, a Dhimmi, or a PC MC. Each one of those three would have distinctly different motivations. Anisa Rowhani could be any one of those three. In addition, the Muslim who enables Islam can be an active Muslim, a “cultural Muslim”, or an ex-Muslim. Given all the facts we have, it’s most likely Rowhani falls under the cultural Muslim who feels the need to enable Islam category.
Her family *is* originally from Iran, Barook.
There are three main possibilities: her family were persecuted Infidels in Iran, but they retained or developed dhimmi attitudes about how Muslims deserve unreserved “respect”.
Or they were apostates from Islam, either before or after leaving, but—just as above—retained Muslim supremacist ideas.
A slight twist may be that Anisa herself holds these ideas in opposition to her dhimmi or apostate family.
The third possibility, of course, is that she is simply lying, and thought her assertion of “Islamophobia” would sound more damning coming from a supposed Infidel.
Ultimately, of course, it may not matter—both Muslims and useful-idiot Infidels often serve as Muslim apologists.
She is, or was, Baha’i which is not really much different from Islam. It is an offshoot of Islam from Iran. It is a very weird religion, it is very vague and its main points sound more like those of a secular political party. It has extremely little theology, mysticism or personal religious experience. And it all sounds saccharine and appealing to modern sensibilities but it sees its future, just like Islam, as taking over the entire world and forcing people to live by their principles which they LITERALLY refer to as the New World Order (I’m not a conspiracy theorist by any means but it is extremely weird). They are more concerned with things like an Auxiliary World Language and uniting under one world government than any kind of spirituality.
Interesting point, St. Michael. Even here in the San Francisco bay area—an area generally known for its mild temperatures—I was at the bus stop on a particularly chilly winter day a couple of months ago with a woman in an enveloping headscarf. I assumed that she was Muslim.
But then we got off at the same stop and stepped into the same cafe. It was warm and toasty inside, and she took off her headscarf, coat, and sweater, revealing a short-sleeved blouse; sat at a table with mixed genders; and spoke loudly and laughed.
I realized that I had been completely wrong—her headscarf was *not* a Hijab, but just a warm thing to wear, like a muffler or a heavy coat. I’m sure this is more the case in a cold-weather country like Canada.
@ Defcon 4, yes wearing a kippah can get one beaten, killed (and by peace loving Muslims too). Jews have understood harassment for years, Islamists have very thin skin.
She obviously went into this experiment with the out-come already written. She then had to manipulate her unexpected favourable response to meet her already finalized conclusion. How typically liberal: Never let the facts get in the way of a good diatribe.
Always looking for trouble so they can wine like stuck pigs… sorry for the offensive word (not to us of course). Anyone else getting tired of their games (I say rhetorically). How long will the western world allow this nonsense?
Our weekend newspaper has a column any reader can write and submit. One was written by a woman who smiled at a Muslim woman in the street. That was the basis for the whole column. Unbelievable. She felt that Muslim women have it hard and she wanted to counter the disdain she thought the woman must surely be subjected to every day. So she smiled at her, received a smile in return, felt really noble and wrote up this glorious experience for the whole of Australia to learn from.
Maybe there are swarms of such generous souls out there who are just itching to make a poor oppressed Muslima feel better.
Did I say “maybe”?
I tried commenting on Queen’s Journal, the journal of the university, but I have been pre-emptively blocked despite never having been to the website before. So the webmaster for their site has been monitoring my activity elsewhere (or more likely, someone else has) and has provided my IP for blocking from comments should I ever show up there? This is not a totally off the wall suspicion, btw, many sites, chat rooms, etc over the years have created ‘alliances’ between one another where if one has a problem with someone they will all block that person. But for it to happen with a university website is unacceptable.
This is what I was going to comment, by the way:
“She started a ‘study’ with preconceptions, expecting people to be hateful and ‘racist’ so she comes up with some unsubstantiated, unfalsifiable claim to legitimize her own prejudice? This is a complete joke, there’s nothing scientific about it. She should be expelled from her program of study for so being so blatantly and UNDENIABLY prejudiced and scientifically incompetant.”
Here’s the website if anyone else wants to contact them.
I too was “blocked” from posting a comment at Queen’s Journal on that story.
I just dashed off an email to them, April 16 (I will revisit here and report on how they respond):
Dear Sirs/Mesdames:
I tried to post a comment on a story on The Queen’s Journal website, and was unable to do so, receiving the following message.
“We are unable to post your comment because you have been blocked by The Queen’s Journal”
Upon further investigation, I learned the following:
“We are unable to post your comment…” error
“This message indicates that you’ve been blacklisted from commenting on the site in question, you can contact the website for more information on why you were blocked. Note that while Disqus offers many moderation tools, we do not moderate comments ourselves.”
My questions are three: Have I been blacklisted? If no, how can I comment? If yes, why have I been blacklisted?
Merci,
Hesperado
