Yet gay advocates in the U.S. such as Theresa Sparks and Chris Stedman attacked Pamela Geller and me for calling attention to the institutionalized mistreatment of gays under Islamic law. Their gay advocacy doesn’t extend to standing up to Sharia oppression of gays, even though that oppression is far more virulent and violent than anything from “right-wing extremists” in the U.S. And you can’t blame them: given the Leftist/jihadist alliance, it’s clear that if they spoke out against Sharia mistreatment of gays, they would no longer be invited to the best parties, and might even be branded as “right-wing.” Their moral cowardice and duplicity, however, are obvious.
“Muslim drivers at Cleveland airport refuse to drive cabs with Gay Games advertising,” by Joshua Rhett Miller, FoxNews.com, April 18 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
Roughly 25 Muslim drivers dispatched to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are refusing to drive cabs adorned with advertising for the region’s upcoming Gay Games, citing religious reasons.
Two of the three companies operating at Ohio’s largest airport were informed by the drivers — one-third of the airport’s total fleet — last week that they will no longer participate in the airport’s dedicated taxicab program. The companies, Ace and Yellow Taxi Cab, were told by the drivers that their decision was based on religious reasons, airport spokeswoman Jacqueline Mayo told FoxNews.com.
Ann Gynn, a spokeswoman for the Gay Games, said she believes the protest is an “isolated” case and not indicative of the beliefs held by most residents in Cleveland and Akron, where the Gay Games will be held on Aug. 9-16.
“What we’ve been seeing for the last couple of years is a lot of positive support and a welcome atmosphere within the community,” Gynn told FoxNews.com. “This was a decision by those individual cab drivers. It was a personal decision.”
This is the first year that the nonprofit Gay Games, which are open to all adults regardless of sexual orientation, has utilized advertising atop taxicabs, Gynn said. They were unveiled early last week, she said.
“What’s surprising is that the Gay Games are about inclusion,” she continued. “The Gay Games are open to everybody. This is about inclusiveness on sporting fields and welcoming people as they are.”
The affected taxicab companies will now backfill the airport’s fleet with metered vehicles until each company can hire replacement drivers. That process is expected to take up to three weeks, Mayo said.
“The airport is committed to providing this necessary customer service to our arriving passengers seeking transportation from the airport to their final destination,” airport director Ricky Smith said in a statement obtained by FoxNews.com.
Patrick Keenan, general manager for the third taxi company at the airport, Americab, said two of his drivers initially opted not to work due to the ads. One of them has since returned, he told FoxNews.com on Friday.
“He cited religious reasons,” Keenan said of the unidentified driver. “I didn’t foresee it being a problem … We have no problem with the signage and [the protest] doesn’t reflect the views of our company.”
Launched in San Francisco in 1982, the Gay Games are open to anyone aged 18 or older. Tom Waddell, a gay athlete who could not be open about his sexual orientation when he competed in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City, sought to create an event where people could compete and be open regarding their sexuality.
The Gay Games, according to organizers, are based on three principles: participation, inclusion and personal best. Typically, roughly 10 percent of approximately 9,000 participants in its 35-plus sports identify as non-LGBT individuals.

These Muslim drivers need to read their “holy” books.

Just boycott Muslims. Period!

I wonder what the press reaction would be if gay drivers refused to drive cabs advertising a Muslim event.

This won’t even result in a blip from the MSM, but imagine if some Christian cabbies did this in the name of their faith. The situation is crystal clear: Any hate in Islam (and there is a great deal there to be sure—-an almost incalculable amount) will be ignored by the MSM because it is so invested, to the point of mindlessness, in criticizing what Western Civilization has produced.
This “production” by the West would include freedom of the press such as no other civilization has even remotely engaged in, but so entrenched is the MSM in its anti-West stance that it will ignore the beam in Islam’s eye while it notices, ad nauseam, the speck of sand in the eye of the Judeo-Christian world. If this isn’t dumb, nothing is.
Again can be seen, again should be registered, that the real threat to the liberty the West pioneered and established, as no other civilization in history has, comes from the clueless ones inside the West rather than from the outside. Which “outside” in this instance is the decrepit, oppressive, desultory, freedom-crushing, non-productive, hate-filled corpus of tortured and, at times, just downright imbecilic doctrines which emanate from the Islamic world with regularity. All of which tends to prove (yet again) that civilizations, and most tragically great ones, collapse from within and not from without.
The ultimate enemy of Western Civilization in our time is not Islam. Rather, it is the West itself as stupidly interpreted right now by the Western elite, be they in the political world, the media or academia. This wretched body of traitors to Western Civilization includes not only the clueless Left but also so many on the Right who have lost their guts.
The West is drifting. Big time. Meanwhile, Islamic cabbies get their way.

The S++t hit the proverbial fan when a Christian wedding photographer refused to do a SSM in New Mexico, got sued, and lost in court. Now the Supremes won’t hear the case, I understand. But I’m sure the LGBT activists will treat these Muslim cabbies with kid gloves–if for no other reason than they don’t want their throats slit.
This is one reason why I don’t see the LGBT’s as anti-jihadi allies. They’re too busy forcing us Christians to accept their lifestyle via lawfare–and they have plenty of black-robed jackasses as allies who are too busy finding new “rights” in the penumbras of the Constitution to pay any attention to the ones in the plain text thereof.
The LGBT’s have even hijacked US foreign policy to the point where we are proudly bullying Uganda to become a safe have for Western perversion tourism. And nobody cries “racism!” here.
Sure, I’m no “bring it on” type when it comes to intercivilizational warfare. My side of the spectrum is finding it easier to proselytize among Muslims these days, and we don’t do it by throwing bricks through windows or calling people “raghead”. Hence, we are fighting the war God wants us to fight (see the Epistles of Paul).
Yes, the biggest enemies the West has are within.

an abomination in the jewish religion for a man to lie down w/another man. jews dont drive cabs anymore, but @ one time they did. are gay games really about inclusion? i am straight, can i join? if not its discrimination.

I know a person in the media in Cleveland they are reporting this not as Muslim cab drivers refusing but cab drivers period who are refusing. No mention at all that it’s Muslims.
Jay Boo says
If a cab driver who is not gay whether Muslim or otherwise wishes not drive around with controversial signs such as this advertising, we should cut them some slack.
The same is true for ‘Why Islam’ signs.
I might imply the driver is the one who is promoting a particular issue.
john spielman says
I agree, when you own your own cab, but if you work for a company and the company is being paid for the advertisement I think your obligated to display it.
Jay Boo says
I suspected someone would bring that up and I would totally agree if it were a bus, but not a cab.
bill says
The obvious thing would be to sack them but you cannot do that as they would sue you for infringing their human rights. Never mind the human rights of people who just want a taxi. Personally I would not take a cab driven by a Muslim anyway! After all one cannot tell the ‘decent’ muslims from the others as they all look the same.

bill are you implying that Muslims are a race?

I completely agree, Jay.
The accursed disciples of Rousseau are working so hard at compelling the rest of us to be “free” that they’re imposing a vicious tyranny.
I’m old enough to remember when every Leftist in America had a bright red poster of Ben Shahn’s _Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti_ in his living room, replete with the motto “Do not think you have converted a man when you have only silenced him.” Maybe they need to remember some of their own sloganeering.

If it means less musl0-nazi cab drivers I’d like to see more LGBT advertising on cabs.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m sometimes a little slow on the uptake or in understanding certain ideas so……. I’m not really seeing the point of calling this event the “Gay Games” if the participants don’t have to be gay. I also don’t see anything “gay” about baseball, basketball, football, tennis,……or any sport for that matter. The entry at Wikipedia about this event says ,”The games are open to all who wish to participate, without regard to sexual orientation and there are no qualifying standards.” So……I’m just not getting the point of calling the event The Gay Games. Gay games?…..straight games?……..it should be just the free and open to all games…….event…….jamboree……thing.
Come to think of it, it sounds like some sort of love fest or what the hippies back in the 1960’s called a “Love in.” So why not call it The Sports Love In? That would force anyone against it to be anti-love. Calling the event the Gay Games makes it sound exclusive and not inclusive……unless the whole point is actually to be divisive. But why divide the world up any more than it already is? Gay people are just…..people. Well…… maybe I will understand this eventually . it’s quite late so I’m going to stop thinking for now. Good night all.
bill says
IMO we have enough sports events already. Do we really need an LGBT? I thought those people wanted to be included in the mainstream not separated from it.
Rose says
Is refusing to drive a taxi with these ads the same as refusing to photograph a same-sex wedding?
Defcon 4 says
The photographer is the sole proprietor and owner of the business, he’s not an employee. Nice try at an argument of false equivalence though.

Well the are times I sadly can side with the Muslims, I am so sick of this gay stuff, glad I don’t have young children and have to try and explain what’s going on. At the movies the other night, rights across the hall, big School Board window display promoting (supposedly tolerance ) the gay life. What has sport got to do with GAY, its sport dam it, sex orientation should have nothing to do with it. I am afraid I do agree with Islam saying the west has gone to hell, pity Islam the religion is so messed up and violent.
thomas_h says
“I am so sick of this gay stuff, …”
First of all, Allan, please believe me, so am I.
Now, both you and Islam may say “west is gone to hell”, but while I agree with you I disagree with Islam. It is because while you bemoan the fact, Islam delights in it. Nazi and Communist regimes persecuted homosexuals, but I don’t believe you would look at them as allies.
I agree with you that the campaign of presenting the practice of homosexuality as something normal and moral is a part of the a symptom of deep and dangerous malaise destroying the west. But the West is still able to heal itself of the malaise whereas Doctor Islam can’t heal it without killing the patient.
Othewise, if I had to chose between taking a cab with a homosexual driver or a moslem one I would always take the former. And, I believe, so would you.
Cheers,
Thomas H.
Alan says
Thomas H, no argument with what you say, and sincerely hope you are correct the West can heal it’s self.
thomas_h says
Alan, I of course can’t be more sure than you are. But I, like you, hope with all my heart the West will wake out and regain its powers of discerning between normal and perversion, moral and immoral, sad and gay, lie and truth. Our very freedom depends on it.
Cheers,
Thomas H.

It would appear that you are wrong in your smearing of the “gay advocates in the West”, Robert. They, in fact, do stand against Islam’s proscriptions in Shariah. I would appreciate it if you would treat them as the individuals that they are and stay away from smearing them as a homogenous group. That is what Islamists do.
