Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Michelle Obama wages hashtag counter-jihad

May 8, 2014 9:48 pm By Robert Spencer

MichelleObamaBringBack

Oh yes, this will work.

If any one photo sums up the impotence, self-indulgence and silliness of the West’s response to the jihad threat, it is this one.

Oh, and aren’t you supposed to type hashtag slogans into Twitter, rather than write them on a piece of paper?

Gee, and Michelle can do “angry” so well. Why not in this pic? It just looks as if she is a trifle put out. Come on, Michelle, do angry: snarl and shout!

      Can’t shout at Islam
That is not PC in DC

Yes you are right, she sure does not look angry, maybe that is her sad face. BTW, then did the #(number/pound sign) start being called hashtag? This has really annoyed me since hearing this word, but I am getting old.

      May 9, 2014 at 4:51 am

Actually what you should ask is when did the pound sign which is like ‘£’ become the hash tag? The hash tag has been used for pound for decades, since the manufacturers stopped putting it on keyboards in fact.

Our girls? They are Nigerian not American. She’s only concerned because they are black

        • Jay Boo says

          May 9, 2014 at 9:29 am

          No that is not correct,
“Bring Back Our Girls” is the message that the parents are sending to the Nigerian government (and now the world).
The main stream media imply this has nothing to do with Islam and have been PRETENDING to cover this story for weeks by doing interviews with Nigerian Muslims who oppose Goodluck Johnathan administration thereby aiding and abetting the terrorists goals. (financial and political).
The MSM have tried to make this a story only about the competence of the Nigerian government but it went viral out of there control and when Hollywood celebrities got involved Pres. Obama had to take notice and his wife had no other choice but to do a self-serving photo-op.

          May 9, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Hi, Willi — When you say that Michelle is only concerned because the girls are black, I also thought the same thing at first, but decided that “Our” girls was meant to include them universally as being everyone’s girls, in everyone’s heart.
I like that she got openly involved, though so late in the day…

        • Kepha says

          May 9, 2014 at 6:44 pm

I don’t like Moochelle, and I’m not black.

However, I’m also concerned about the abducted girls. There are lots of Nigerian-origin kids (and a few colleagues) where I teach in the good ole USA, some naturalized, some not. Some of these girls could be the cousins of people whom I care about.

Feelings aside, I understand from the geography of the situation that it might be a good idea to get Cameroon and Chad on board in finding these abducted girls.

But I also wonder why the FLOTUS is just making puppy eyes. She should really give us that old Michelle O glower.

I urge you and every JW reader to watch this video — then pass the link on to everyone you know, and every elected official you can possibly contact, from local, in your area, to nation wide.

JT, this clip is dated back to 2009, and the video is blacked out. I copied this text by clicking somewhere that was truncated. Here’s that text:

This video will SETTLE the issue. Remember when he and his campaign DENIED his Muslim connection? Remember when using his middle name was forbidden in the campaign for fear that it might emphasize his Muslim roots? This film tells a different story.

Hear Obama proclaim his Muslim heritage, faith, knowledge of the Koran – his love for Islam – his quoting of the Koran. Hear him proclaim that the USA is NOT a Christian nation. Hear him and see him as he extols the wonderful virtues of the Muslim faith and the Muslim impact upon the “beautiful” things of the world. (Something he has NEVER done concerning the USA or the Christian faith.) Watch it till the end for a rather dramatic and shocking conclusion.

NOTE TO OBAMAMANIACS – Yes – I KNOW he was often speaking to Muslim countries and was just “being polite.” I UNDERSTAND that – that is the POINT of the film. He said ONE THING to the USA when he was running and now says ANOTHER thing to the Muslim world. But, wait, what does he say?
        1. He has strong Muslim heritage and ties
        2. The Koran is a “beautiful” book
        3. Islam is a “beautiful” religion
        4. Islam has made many “wonderful” contributions to society
        5. We are NOT at war with Islam.
        6. America is NOT a Christian nation.

ALL of these things he either DENIED or played down during his campaign. This film simply proves BHO to be a LIAR. It is plain and simple.

He has far too many ideologically idiotic fools running interference for him, hiding or deflecting his clear incompetence (in addition to many other things).

Just have to bite the bullet until nov. 2016. By that stage, there shall no doubt be another vile creature – trying very hard to lurk quietly in the shadows – contesting for the Oval Office which the real world may have to deal with.

The MSM is carrying water for the terrorists by pretending the Nigerian government is the problem not Boko Haram.
No doubt, her message is really focused at the Nigerian government as well, to promote the ‘line’ that Boko Haram would not do this if they were not provoked by the government of Nigeria as if all of the responsibility rests on the Nigerian government and not Islam.

The MSM and their allies are greasing the skids.

I am constantly learning new things…..and finding out how little I really know…or thought I knew. Consider this video. I think it gives new meaning to these lines in the old religious hymn, “Amazing Grace,” (written by a slave trader) which go:
    “I once was lost
    But now am found
Was blind but now I see”

      • CogitoErgoSum says

        May 9, 2014 at 10:16 am

What is my point? You must not have watched the video in my link. What is my point? My point is regarding Islam and slavery. My point is that an educated person should be aware of the Islamic attitude toward slavery. My point is that people are in denial about this. My point is that most people seem to think Islam is just another version of Christianity because Muslims believe Jesus (or Issa) was a prophet …….that Islam is just another religion same as Baptists and Methodists or any of the various other Christian split-offs are just other religions. But it’s more than that. It’s to open your eyes, Mr. Jay Boo. My point is that Mr. and Mrs. President Obama do not seem to understand this….or are pretending not to understand this. My point is that Christians helped get rid of slavery (at least where I live) and Islam did not. I would prefer that you come to realize all of this on your own through the use of your own mind, but I guess I have to spell it out. That’s my point….or at least some of it? Do you get it now?

It’s standard practice to explain *why* someone should spend their time watching a video, rather than just throw up an unexplained link. I gather that the unidentified video would have some connection, unspecified, with what you just wrote out. Okey-dokey.

As you must know, you are preaching to the choir here. As for the many numbers of “hidden” readers who do not comment but who visit Jihad Watch, among them innumerable people who are likely on the fence on this issue, it is important to simplify the problem for them — and to do it in factually compelling ways. Meanwhile, it is incumbent upon them to do a little work themselves (100 hours of reading Jihad Watch archives as an absolute minimum, just for starters), and not expect others to take their hand and explain everything to them.

      ………………………..

Important to note, Cogito, that “Amazing Grace” was written by a remorseful *former* slave trader—John Newton—who eventually came to work with the abolition movement.

He realized that only grace could save someone who had done what he had done.

But he also worked in the real world to atone for his mistakes.

He was played by Albert Finney in 2006’s film of the same name, with Ioan Gruffudd as William Wilberforce, about the struggle to abolish slavery in the British Empire. This is one of my favorite movies.

Of course, there could never be a Muslim John Newton—or a Muslim William Wilberforce.

Slavery never completely disappeared in the Muslim world, and only dwindled to the extent that it did due to Western Pressure.

And now, Muslims like Boko Haram are working to bring back slavery on a huge scale.

      God, I hate Islam.

She is not referring to Boko Haram when she says ‘Bring Back Our Girls’
      That would be commendable.

She is parroting the parents message to the government of Nigeria in order to reinforce the message of the MSM of assigning (all blame) to the Nigerian government for not doing enough while glossing over Islam’s role.

Oh, and aren’t you supposed to type hashtag slogans into Twitter, rather than write them on a piece of paper?

    Thats exactly what she did

First lady Michelle Obama showed solidarity with the families of Nigeria on Wednesday, tweeting out a photo of herself holding a sign, “Bring Back Our Girls.”

Exactly. That needs to be pointed out by everyone in the media who has a track record of resistance to Sharia overseas, and Sharia inroads paved in the Dar al Harb.

No one but Spencer, Geller, and a few choice others have taken this seriously over the years, and they deserve much credit.

    For god’s sake, people.

    THIS IS A TEACHING MOMENT.

    The iron is hot: strike!

    EDUCATE. EDUCATE. EDUCATE.

I don’t care why people have decided to get angry about this, and not about, for example, Beslan back when it happened. But like it or not, *this* is what has spoken, when so much else has been ignored. People *are* getting angry. All kinds of people. We don’t get to pick which moment becomes a “wake up” moment for people. We might prefer it to have been, or to be, other things. But it isn’t. You take what you’re given.

I’m on FB. *I* didnt’ “share” the story of the kidnapped girls. But when a whole bunch of other folks – including *the Australian Coptic Christian Movement* – started *sharing* it, then I was right there …EDUCATING. Telling them that Boko Haram were doing normative Islam, imitating Mohammed. Telling them about little Aisha aged 9. Telling them about the Example of Mohammed, and what he did to Safiyya of Khaybar, and to Rayhana, and Juwariyya.

Here’s “Hugh Fitzgerald’s” take on the subject.

    http://www.newenglishreview.org/blog_direct_link.cfm/blog_id/53895

    Thursday, 8 May 2014
Boko Haram Leader Will Marry Off “Girls As Young As Nine” And No One Comments On It

“…You and I know why. But why don’t the reporters? Why don’t they think they should find out? And if they do find out,, why don’t they explain that it was Muhammad, the Guide to Conduct (uswa hasana), the Perfect Man (al-insan al-kamil), who was betrothed to little Aisha when she was six, but demurely waited until she was nine to have sexual intercourse with her? ”

**Why not explain this to the tens of millions of people, including Obama’s wife, who have taken an interest in the kidnapped Christian girls of Nigeria?** {my emphasis – dda}.

BTW: the cry “Bring Back Our Girls” was **originally raised by the mothers of the kidnapped girls**. When they protested to the assorted non-Muslim politicos who were gathering in Nigeria. They raged and cried and yelled, like Demeter before the throne of Zeus after Hades had dragged off Persephone to the Underworld.

Is it so trivial that others – and after all, Hilary has a daughter, and Michelle has two daughters – have been drawn into that cry?

Don’t stand back and sneer, or shrug.

There’s a stirring in the waters. The archetypes are there. Name them. Unloose them.

PS. There’s a link embedded in that Hugh Fitzgerald article. It’s a link to a Canadian newspaper’s coverage of the story.

    http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/05/05/calls-grow-for-west-to-use-drones-to-hunt-for-nigerian-girls-as-boko-haram-threatens-to-marry-off-nine-year-olds/
Calls grow for West to use drones to hunt for Nigerian girls as Boko Haram threatens to ‘marry off’ nine-year-olds

That newspaper permitted Comments. There are quite a lot of them, and many of them are very Islamo-informed.

Now allow yourself to realize that conversations such as are happening in that Comments section of that newspaper story, may be happening *all over the western world and beyond it*, in the wake of this mass-kidnapping/ slave raid in Nigeria. And there are enough Islamowary folks out there, now, that the odds are very good that those conversations include people who can explain, about Aisha, and Safiyya, and Rayhana, and Juwariyya, and the example of Mohammed, Mohammed the slave-raider, Mohammed the rapist, whose example has permanently sacralised the practice of the seizure of slaves, the practice of sexual enslavement of non-Muslim girls and women, even of those who are prepubescent or barely-pubescent.

And if there’s a candlelight protest or a rally about this, organised in your hometown…don’t stay away…GO. And do your jobs, as students or graduates of Mr Spencer’s Virtual Hedge School of the Counter-Jihad: EDUCATE.

This is a teaching moment: but the teaching has to be precise, concise, readable, and clearly linked to sources proving every claim. I found myself unexpectedly thrust upon by a comfortably centrist upper middle class American acquaintance who suddenly blurted out that he had read an op-ed from CNN on his phone yesterday written by Melinda Gates (wife of extremely inluential billionaire Bill Gates). He looked down at his phone and read out:

Boko Haram has sought to justify its actions as consistent with Islamic teachings, and this is an insult. Many influential voices in the Muslim world have rebuked the group’s actions. (To cite just one example, Sheik Ahmed el-Tayeb of the Cairo-based Al-Azhar, one of Sunni Islam’s most prestigious theological institutions, said the kidnappings “completely contradict Islam and its principles of tolerance.”)

In that situation, away from my laptop, I was tongue-tied. I certainly brought up our usual talking points, but they seemed unpersuasive to this guy, because I didn’t have the quotes, attributions and sources at my fingertips. Most of us don’t have the encyclopedic knowledge of a Robert Spencer nor his amazing recall.

And even if I had my laptop at the ready, it would have taken me about an hour at least to marshall the requisite proof and construct the argument. By that time, the (teaching) moment would have passed.

That’s one very representative and typical anecdotal example of why we desperately need a digital Anti-Islam Manual, for the thousands of us all over the West (and slowly growing) who have taken it upon ourselves autodidactically to deputize ourselves in this most important theater of this world war we are in — the “battle space of the war of ideas” (as Frank Gaffney put it).

      • voegelinian says

…but the teaching has to be precise, concise, readable, and clearly linked to sources proving every claim.

And, of course, in moments typified by my anecdote, it should not so much be “readable” as it should be presentable orally in face-to-face conversation.

Some archetypes for reflection. And an African Saint whose intercession on behalf of the Nigerian girls should be invoked by all Catholics here present…and whose *story* should be told in any case by everyone, to anyone they meet who is expressing outrage at the kidnap of the Nigerian Christian girls. Because her story, the story of Saint Josephina Bakhita, tells us that mohammedans have been slave-raiding – and atrociously abusing those whom they seize – all over Africa for a very, very long time before today. That Boko Haram is part of a pattern…a world-wide pattern, everywhere that the Mohammedan Mob has access to vulnerable non-Muslim peoples.

    Those archetypes.

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f5/FredericLeighton-TheReturnofPerspephone(1891).jpg

Note: it is the *rage* of Demeter – the grieving mother seeking her daughter who has been seized by the god of the dead – that it would be well to call to mind. And if one reads the myth psychologically, it is realistic about the *damage* that raped and kidnapped and imprisoned victims sustain. They may be rescued, but there will always be a memory and a scar.

Another great Archetype: St George, slaying the dragon to rescue the princess.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:St_George_and_the_Dragon_by_Brian_Whelan.jpg

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Raphael_-_Saint_George_Fighting_the_Dragon.jpg

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:St.George_rescuing_the_emperor%27s_daughter.JPG

those mothers in Nigeria – like Coptic mothers of seized-and-kidnapped-and-force-“converted” daughters, in Egypt, and like Hindu and Christian mothers of daughters similarly snatched by vile mohammedthugs in Pakistan – are crying out for a manifestation of St George, to hunt down the dragon that is Islam, and rescue their lost girls.

And now for our African saint. Enslaved and cruelly abused by Muslims, bought and ultimately freed by Christians.

      …………………………..

Oh, *lots* of them condone it. What you mean is do any of them *openly* condone it.

      Here’s coverage from Al-Arabiya:

“Muslim leaders decry Boko Haram seizure of girls”

“…Muslim leaders in various countries have criticized Boko Haram’s leader for using Islamic teachings as his justification for threatening to sell the girls into slavery. Others have focused on what they view as a slow response by Nigeria’s government to the crisis…”

Notice the weasely phrasing—none of these Muslim leaders are, precisely, condemning Boko Haram for kidnapping these poor girls—instead, they are criticizing them for “making Islam look bad” by revealing that their actions were based on Islamic teachings.

And then, of course, they are using the occasion to kick Goodluck Jonathan’s hapless Infidel government.

Other Muslim “leaders” go on to slam the West.

It’s all pretty equivocal stuff—mostly, a lot of Taqiyya:

The hashtag #BringBackOurGirls was created by Ibrahim M. Abdullahi on April 23, 2014. In order to create awareness and put pressure on the Nigerian Government to rescue the Chibok school girls, the hashtag was subsequently amplified by Oby Ezekwesili and Ramaa Mosley. As at May 7, 2014 #BringBackOurGirls had received 1.5 billion impressions and reached 440 million people worldwide.

I don’t care who may or may not have invented the slogan. I don’t care whether Michelle Obama is joining the campaign for all the wrong reasons.

All I care about is this: all kinds of people right across the western world are *talking* about this mass kidnapping.

And that – including a picture of Michelle Obama holding up a piece of cardboard, if it circulates in social media where some of us interact with others – gives *us* – those who KNOW exactly why the kidnapping, and the subsequent rapes and selling as slaves, are being perpetrated – the opportunity to tell lots of people *more*, and maybe just maybe wake them up, and if not, still, lay the foundations for a future awakening. Drop the depth charges that will go off…later. Plant the seeds that will, later, grow.

Here’s the interesting thing, too. Usually it’s we who are angry – hopping mad – about this or that awful piece of Mohammedan mayhem, and the other people around us who are “cool”, indifferent, incurious, and don’t like us being passionate and try to get us to “cool it”.

Now, it’s the people around us who are angry and full of a desire to do *something*.
But they need *information*, they need the big picture..and we can say to them “Yes, I am angry too; white-hot angry, even more angry than you are; and this is why, because it’s far, far worse and far, far bigger than you think [segue into a few fun facts: info on Mohammed as slave-trader, slave-raider, user of sex-slaves, rapist of Safiyya, Juwariyya, Rayhana; and Mohammed as permanent model for all pious Muslim, hence slavery and in particular sex slavery are hardwired into Islam as a system.]

What get’s me angry in addition to this horrible act are all of those that are oblivious to it. I have finally come to the realization that I can do little to change what they cannot see, too bad but I am throwing in the towel to try and make a difference in this way. All I can do is to stay educated, not buy into hate but learn about the real atrocities that plague us today. I am 62 years old, I will probably not live to see the total destruction of the West but I will live long enough to see the US implode and I will live long enough to see more acts committed by these obsessed ignorant militants that roam our earth. Today we have a different world than the blessed on I grew up in, today our world is full of hate and turning the other way. If I believed in a higher being I would pray to that, but I do not believe when things like this are happening over and over and over again my friend, yes we are on the eve of destruction.

Looks like you’re having a very bad day, indeed. We on JW will NEVER throw in any towel. I see that indifference and skepticism have permeated the people to whom you address yourself.
Maybe a good plan — which I intend to follow — would be to type some satanic quotes from the evil koran and their head psycho-maniac. Then, ever-so-gently but meaningfully introduce the QUOTED filth into the exchange? I’ll sharpen my knives this way.
Advocacy is very, very tricky with the public at large, and one must be more prepared — rather than seeming to be a hot-gun cowboy, though this is absolutely how we all feel here.
        What do you think?
