“The latest car bomb comes five days before the World Economic Forum is scheduled to start in Abuja. Nigeria’s government had announced that 6,000 soldiers and police would be deployed to protect next week’s summit but with world leaders including China’s premier to attend, the insecurity now means the event may not go ahead.” And so the savages score yet another victory over civilization.
An update on this story. “Car bomb kills at least 19 in Nigeria, Boko Haram claims responsibility,” by Martin Cuddihy, ABC Australia, May 3, 2014 (thanks to Twostellas):
The Nigerian Islamist Organisation Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for a deadly car bombing in the capital Abuja.
At least 19 people are dead and more than 60 others have been taken to hospital.
Witnesses say a car drove close to a police checkpoint, where a man jumped out and started running and then the bomb exploded.
Witness Lateef Adebayo says there was a loud blast then a ball of fire.
“There were many dead bodies and ambulances were rushing there,” he said.
The attack happened just over the road from a busy bus station where Boko Haram set off another explosive on April 14, killing 70 people.
The terrorist organisation has been exceptionally active lately – along with the two car bombs, fighters from Boko Haram are holding close to 200 school girls captive after abducting them at gun point almost three weeks ago.
The government and the military have been under intense pressure to step up security in the country following the April 14 attack and the mass abduction of the girls.
