This is a refreshing common sense move. Why have the governments of Europe and North America not done the same thing? Probably they are afraid it would be “Islamophobic.”
“Australia to stop ‘killer’ jihadists returning,” AFP, June 21, 2014 (thanks to Kenneth):
SYDNEY — Australian jihadists fighting overseas who are “trained killers” and “hate our way of life” should be stopped from returning home and detained if they do, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Friday.
Australia has concerns that its citizens are fighting alongside Sunni militants in Iraq and Syria, including with the radical Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.
“The important thing is to ensure that as far as is humanly possible they don’t come back into our country,” Abbott told Sydney radio station 2GB.
“And if they do come back into our country they are taken into detention because what we can’t have is trained killers—who hate our way of life, who hate us—making mischief with the potential to cause mayhem in our country.”
Abbott said more than 100 Australians had traveled to Syria and Iraq, and some had been involved with “this murderous, murderous al-Qaida splinter group,” a reference to ISIL.
“Be in no doubt that some individuals from this country are now participating in acts of barbarity in Iraq,” Abbott added to journalists.
“These people should have no place in our country and we will do our best to keep them out.”
The European Union warned earlier this year that the number of young European Muslims going to fight alongside extremist groups in Syria and elsewhere is fast growing, and governments fear they will pose a security risk if they return home.
Abbott said authorities were keeping a careful watch on as many of the Australians who had traveled to conflict zones as possible.
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Thursday she was “deeply concerned” about the threat Australian fighters could pose when they returned home, adding she had cancelled a number of passports on the advice of intelligence agencies.

Good idea. Turn Syria and Iraq into roach motels: Jihadists can go in, but they can’t come out.

I heard Julie Bishop interviewed on the radio. I liked what I heard. Instead of a government who thinks that all Jihadis are as morally spotless as new snow , we finally have a government who are going to do something to stop the global Jihad from coming into Australia. Bravo!

Good. They went to fight for a foreign military on their own free will, thus proving where their allegiance is, so don’t let them return or, if you can’t prevent them from returning, at the very least keep them locked somewhere where they don’t constitute a danger to the rest of the population. Do that, remain firm despite the very likely barrage of “racism” and “islamophobia” whines from the usual professional self-victimizers and you’re setting a good precedent for the rest of the world. Roaches checkout, but they don’t get to check back in.

Do not let the Mohammedans back in, Australia. Good move.

Well, I’m glad that it appears that Australia has some spine, but why still all the equivocations ?
”SYDNEY — Australian jihadists fighting overseas who are “trained killers” and “hate our way of life” should be stopped from returning home and detained if they do, Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Friday”
Why ‘should’, and not **will** ? If they are **stopped**, there is no need to spend time and money detaining them.
“The important thing is to ensure that as far as is humanly possible they don’t come back into our country,” Abbott told Sydney radio station 2GB”
‘As far as is humanly possible’ ? What the hell ? Surely it is very easy to ascertain where they have been, and simply stop them at the gate, cancel their passports, and **citizenship**, and put them on the next plane back to the Middle East ? It doesn’t matter where, **any** Islamic cess pit will do.
“And if they do come back into our country they are taken into detention”
”These people should have no place in our country and we will do our best to keep them out.”
**If** they come back
**we will do our best** ??
Am I missing something here ? Is it somehow inherently terribly difficult to keep out undesirables, and traitors ? If so, why ? It’s not like Australia has to dance to the tune of the EU.
Even **pusillanimous Britain** managed to keep out Robert and Pamela, on the specious grounds they ”were not conducive to the public good”, so how much more easy for Australia to keep out known traitors and murderers ?
”Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Thursday she was “deeply concerned” about the threat Australian fighters could pose when they returned home, adding she had ** cancelled a number of passports** ( my emphasis: Mirren) on the advice of intelligence agencies”
Well, there you go ! If she can cancel ‘a number’, then why can’t she cancel them all ?
I don’t want to be churlish here, and what Australia is doing, or ‘hopes’ it will be doing, is certainly far more than my own miserable, pusillanimous leader will do, but why, oh why, can’t we have a leader somewhere, who will just stand up and say, without any mealy-mouthed qualifications, ”You have turned traitor. You are no longer a citizen, and you will never be allowed back into this country.”
End of chat.
s.c. says
well it must be hard to keep out the undesirables, just look how much trouble we go to in order to keep out all those illegal aliens here in the U. S. A. and it would seem that it is even harder to send them back when one in ten thousand is caught robbing, raping, or just plain murdering. so i can see it would be hard for Australia to keep them for coming back.
mark says
It is difficult because keeping citizens out of your country is against international law, as is depriving citizenship if it would leave someone stateless (i.e. you can only do it if they have dual citizenship). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_of_return

When I was an expat many years ago, there was a statement in my United States Passport to the effect that travelers using our passports and fighting in the armed forces of another country automatically lost our U.S. citizenship.
There seems to be a loophole which is exploited now by our transnational, un-uniformed Muslim enemy.
A very dangerous problem here in America is that somehow we’re refusing to acknowledge that we’re indeed at War with Muslims worldwide. We simply must give up this 19th century Marquess of Queensbury attitude to fighting this transnational guerrilla war of fanatics relying on their Koran for guidance.

Indeed. He said to me once, in reply to my concerns about Muslim immigrants, that if we are good to them, they will be good to us.
Wishful thinking I hope he has left behind. Meanwhile, his treasurer, a grovelling dhimmi whose family was from Bethlehem, is crazy about Islamic finance.
PJG says
All our Western governments seem to be the same. They are happy with all manner of Islamisation; they just disapprove slightly of our citizens being murdered.
voegelinian says
Yes. We have to keep the feet of our public servants to the fire, and not be so embarrassingly overjoyed when they feed us crumbs. Mirren’s questions above are totally appropriate, and such a searching skepticism should always be cultivated and rewarded in the Counter-Jihad (and its opposite criticized whenever it rears its head — which in my experience seems disconcertingly common over the years).

Certainly, talk is one thing and action another. It remains to be seen as to what will come of this. However, the idea of pro-actively addressing this issue of returning terrorists is likely to be under the radar of a labor government’s agenda, judging from its previous disastrous incarnation. Incidentally, the opposition labor party is pushing for another election soon with the help of the bleeding heart greens party (plus some other clueless independents).

MR says
Cancelling someone’s passport doesn’t cancel their citizenship or render them stateless. They still remain a citizen. Cancellation of passport just stops them travelling abroad. Try getting through Australian emigration, or through another country’s immigration, or checking in for an international flight, without being able to produce your passport. Can’t be done.

Although Australia is an elective dictatorship (I refuse to describe any of the so-called democracies as anything else) the rulers are not allowed to govern by edict.
With best will in the world, preventing the murder cultists from returning to Australia may prove to be impossible. You can expect any number of interminable court cases, including six month adjournments ordered by useless idiot judges, to hinder any attempt by the Australian government to keep those jihadis from returning to Australia.
Tony Abbott is just blowing smoke, I’m afraid.
JIMJFOX says
And so are you.
Tradewinds says
No, you are, Muslim.
RR says
I disagree: let them return to Australia and be on show to everyone. Let the media follow them around, let them spout their Koranic messages for all to hear. Otherwise it will simply go underground and Aussie jihadists will still be going over there, but the dhimmis will not get their education.
Sydneysider says
There are a lot more jihadists and their Islamist supporters in Sydney than the public realise. I think the Australian government should consider paying the one way airfares to Iraq for anyone who wants to fight for ISIS. It might be the best way to rid the country of these fanatics.

When Tony Abbott said he would stop the boatloads of illegal immigrants posing as refugees he was widely doubted.
Then he did it!
So don’t be too quick to doubt.

Henry says
Bravo PM Abbott! A bit of common sense has finally seen the light of day!
No doubt a good deal of death and destruction will have been averted by your action, however the threat within still exists and should be pursued and guarded against.
MR says
Not meaning to rain on anyone’s party, but this sounds like yet another of Tony Abbott’s “mouth in gear before brain engaged” thought bubbles. If these jihadists are Australian citizens, then they have right of return to Australia. Right of return is a fundamental of citizenship worldwide. Furthermore, the government wouldn’t be able to strip a jihadist of Australian citizenship if that person has no other citizenships, because that would then render that person stateless — in which case Australia would still be stuck with them because it’s very unlikely that you’d be able to deport a stateless person to another country.
If the jihadists are permanent residents of Australia (almost certain if they’re not actually citizens), then they would also have right of return to Australia. Revocation of permanent residency would still only be feasible if they have citizenship or right of residency somewhere else. Otherwise, again, we wouldn’t be able to get rid of them.
The best options available appear to be cancellation of passports and conviction under Australian laws relating to engaging in terrorist activities.

Every one of us has to send off emails, within the day. And once the email is sent, a proper letter, on paper, *with our signature*, has to follow.
Avalanche their in-trays with expressions of support for the current measure; but make it clear they could be doing *better*, and offer a few ideas.
Emphasise heavily the *money* we will save if we can rid ourselves of these dangerous people *and* prevent them from getting back in.
The current government is real big on saving money. (Which is why Mohammedan bribes in the form of promises of petrodollar recycling – i.e. “investment” ..”sharia finance”, etc, are talking to them; so, to counter that temptation, we need to stress the *enormous* – and currently steadily increasing – expense, present and future, of all the security monitoring and other measures required to try to keep one jump ahead of the proliferating jihad plots we can fully expect; expense we wouldn’t have to incur if …we had few or no mohammedans inside our gates. Not to mention the massive economic damage we’ll incur if even one plot slips past the “monitoring” and something big and important gets blown up).

A little background info about the image Mr Spencer uses with this article
The image is of three British men identified as Abu Dujana al Hindi (left) Abu Muthanna al Yemeni (centre) and Abu Bara’ Al Hindi (right)
Abu Muthanna al Yemeni has been identified as Nasser Muthana, 20, a key figure in a chilling recruitment video aimed at luring jihadists to Iraq.
The star medical student secretly travelled to Syria from his family home in Cardiff with his 17-year-old brother Aseel – despite being offered the opportunity to study medicine by four universities.
Today, his furious father Ahmed Muthana, 57, said if his sons ever return to the UK, he would like to see them jailed.
He added that his sons have ‘betrayed his family and betrayed Britain’ – before insisting he had already binned family pictures of his boys because ‘you don’t keep the devil in your house.’
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2663558/ISIS-releases-chilling-recruitment-video-featuring-young-British-men.html
voegelinian says
Semeru left out the punch line from that article:
The father-of-four has got rid of most of the family photographs of Nasser, adding: ‘It’s a Moslem thing, you don’t keep the devil in your house.’
I.e., the same Islam which the father supports is the same monster which possessed his sons to go fight and kill the enemy of Islam. No country should tolerate such schizophrenics in their midst, any more than they should tolerate the monsters their schizophrenia enables.

Even worse …
This contradicts the fundamental voegelinian doctrine that all Muslims are exactly the same.
There is no doubt that, he will by now, have a pile of voegelinian 10 page complaint stuffed letters in his mail box.
Tradewinds says
It doesn’t matter that all Muslims “aren’t exactly the same.” Gazillions of them are. And we have to fight back against Islam, a murderous ideology same as Fascism and Nazism.
voegelinian says
You’ve not been reading me carefully. If you’re not going to read someone carefully, don’t make pronouncements about their position. I don’t say all Muslims are the same. I say that because we can’t tell the difference between harmless Muslims and dangerous Muslims, we can’t gamble the lives of our fellow citizens on giving any Muslim the benefit of the doubt. And so, pragmatically, for our own safety, we must presume all Muslims are equally deadly. That’s not the same as saying they are all equally deadly (nor is it saying they are “all the same”).
Tradewinds says
Due to the Jihad doctrine in Islam all Muslims are potential Jihadists.
Major Nidal Hasan of the U.S. army wasn’t supposed to become a “Soldier of Allah” – but, he did. I rest my case.
s.c. says
as long as a mo-slum follows the qu’ran they are all the same, they either support the killers or they are the killers, there is no other way for them
Mirren10 says
voegelinian has never said that ”all muslims are exactly the same”.
If you’re going to quote him, quote him correctly, as you insist that **he** does.
And for the record, I entirely agree with voeg’s precept that total deportation is the only sensible answer.
Where I differ, is that I would except those erstwhile mohammedans who have publicly apostasised, also any muslims under the age of say, 15. Because there is still hope for them.
However, I also recognise that we are a **long** way from that ‘consummation devoutly to be wished’, and indeed, may never get there, because the West shrinks from such draconian action, and indeed, some of our ‘leaders’ may very well be complicit in mohammedan schemes for Islamic supremacism.
Before you fulminate against voegelinian for recommending total muslim deportation, (because, as he rightly says, we have **no** means of differentiation between those muslims who wish us harm, and those who don’t) I suggest you call to mind the **many** muslims who have purported to be peaceful, patriotic, and ‘just want to be left alone to get on with their lives’, who later have been found to be involved with jihadi murder plots, or actually carried them out.
In my own country, I remember the 7/7 murderers; these scum were, on the face of it, *muslims in name only*, in that they appeared to be entirely benign; they had non-mohammedan friends, they worked as teachers, accountants etc, played footie, went to the gym, and comported themselves as all round good ‘chaps’.
But they strapped on murder vests, and went to London, where they blew up the tube and busses, and murdered many innocents.
I also remember Rajib Karim, who again, appeared to be entirely benign. He worked as an airport planner, but he was caught, and tried for, plotting to blow up British planes. Incidentally, **before** he did so, he made damn sure his son was treated by the British NHS for cancer !
No, I think your continued excoriation of voegelinian is so much damned hypocrisy. And I say this as one who has had many disagreements with him in the past, and by no means agrees with everything he says.
Anton says
This is only a symbolic action. Once the Australian government acknowledges that the silence of the Muslim minority of 2% is an indication that they will never integrate and that migration from Islamic countries was, accordingly, a giant mistake and such migration should be stopped now we may start to reclaim our country from those that plan to do us and our descendants harm. If the government fails to acknowledge this then the time has come for Direct Democracy to take over from the insipid Representative democracy that has served western citizens so poorly. My own efforts to alert the Australian Federal parliament of the need to ban halal certification suggests that we face an uphill battle in stopping migration from Muslim countries. We need a referendum to establish Direct Democracy as the system that will serve our interests so that we can have another referendum on immigration and sharia law which would most likely result in a change in policy so that the only Muslims to stay in Australia would be those that accept secular law. If they don’t we would be happy to see them leave to the lands where they can pursue their twisted ideology in “freedom” against other Muslims. Down with Islam and its western sympathizers.
Brian Delany says
Let us rid the world of these radical Muslim scum we could invite them all to join up at a secret location and turn that location in to a car park taking them out with it. They do not belong in this world
