Imagine if 35,000 Muslims had received threats and fled a city. The media coverage would be intense. The UN would issue resolutions. Obama and David Cameron would offer aid and contemplate military action. But when 35,000 Christians flee Mosul because of threats from Islamic jihadists, no one particularly cares. As long as no one committed any “Islamophobia,” all is well.
“Mosul now emptied of Christians, says Archbishop,” Vatican Radio, June 6, 2014 (thanks to Filip):
(Vatican Radio) Speaking to Catholic charity Aid to the Church in Need, Chaldean Archbishop Amel Nona, said he thought Mosul’s last remaining Christians had left now a city which until 2003 was home to 35,000 faithful.
The Christians are among 500,000 thought to have fled Mosul whose overthrow yesterday is now followed by news today (Wed, 11 June) of militant attacks on the Iraqi city of Tikrit 95 miles north of the capital, Baghdad.
Describing reports of attacks to four churches and a monastery in Mosul, the archbishop, 46, said: “We received threats… [and] now all the faithful have fled the city. I wonder if they will ever return there.”
The archbishop, who in the ensuing crisis sought sanctuary in Tal Kayf, a village two miles from Mosul, described how the local community were doing their best to provide for crowds of people flooding out of the city and into the surrounding Nineveh plains, where there are a number of ancient Christian villages.
“Up at 5am yesterday [Tuesday, 10 June] morning we welcomed families on the run and we have tried to find accommodation in schools, classrooms and empty houses.”
He said: “We have never seen anything like this – a large city such as Mosul attacked and in chaos.”
He said that in the 11 years following the 2003 US-led overthrow of Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein, Christians in Mosul had declined from 35,000 to 3,000 and that “now there is probably no one left.”
The archbishop said the attacks on Mosul began last Thursday (5 June) but were initially confined to the western part of the city.
He said: “The army began bombing the affected areas but later in the night between Monday and Tuesday, suddenly the armed forces and the police left Mosul, leaving it to the mercy of the attackers.”…

Just think, I was asked to leave a large gathering of English Christians 4 weeks ago for pointing out with my leaflets this kind of thing, funny old world.

There are none so blind as though that refuse to see.
When these same Christians are forced to watch their wives and daughters been raped by all those ” peace loving Muslims” living in Britain, they are going to wish that they read your leaflets.
Charli Main says
Should read “as those that refuse to see “

I had the same experience with a colleague who refuse to believe me when I told him about the vicious nature of Islam -that insists on murdering unbelievers (if they refuse to embrace Islam the religion of death).
It wasn’t until he met a Coptic Christain who had fled Egypt that he learned the truth .

I spent a year in Mosul in 2008-2009, and it was routine to get intel briefs of Christians being killed.
Nothing new for Iraq.

Well, if these Christians were threatened with violence, then the one thing we can be sure of is that those who threatened them were not Muslims. We know this because Pope Francis himself has officially declared that…
“Authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence”
(Evangelii Gaudium #253).
So please, people, let’s not devolve to making “…hateful generalizations…” (ibid) about Islam and/or Muslims.
What an embarrassing time to be a Catholic, with a Pope so very ignorant of the true nature of Islam.

PC Pope Francis is probably the worst pope in pope history.
Medina says
Pope Francis is a clownish, silly man who has no understanding of his temporal or eternal role. I’m sure he sees himself as a meek, innocent child about to inherit the kingdom. In fact he is a coward who resists the call of Jesus at every turn: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”
Rav says
Agreed.
I keep thinking about Mariam Ibrahim stuck in a Sudanese prison waiting for her execution. In the meantime the Pope is entertaining ‘guests’ at the vatican city. What was it about the good shepard?

They said they were going to get rid of all the Christians and by golly they did. The muslim in the White House smiles, all is going to plan!

@Islamisdeath:
The O is no Muslim. He is a Left-wing Nihilist who wants to punish and destroy everything that made Western civilization great enough to be the one oppressing some romantic image of his unknown father. It’s New Left ideology meets a very insecure soul (hence the way the O flies to flinders every time he meets something other than uncritical adulation).
Kepha says
While we’re at it, the O and his cronies probably think they’re using the Muslims to get “Sunday’s people”; and that he and his ever tirumphing minions will then be able to turn on the “Friday’s people”.
And let me re-iterate: I never voted for the O, even when I was in Illinois and he was running for state senate. Ever since I heard of his presidential bid, I thought of him as a nonentity or worse. Further, I refuse to support Shrillary Shroooooo, whom I think corrupt as well as a proven incompetent.
But I still don’t think the O is a Muslim. His pro-Islamic stance is in keeping with the following (a) a romantic image of what the “other” is, (b) the anti-colonial narrative fed him by his Left-wing mentors, (c) the enemy of my enemies (conservative Christians, including those in Black America, for whom the O has only contempt) is my friend, and (d) American policy has to make nice with “the wave of the future”, whatever it is, since the Cold War against wonderful, progressive Marxism-Leninism was such a mistake.
Islamisdeath says
I vascillate between what you say and thinking he has to be a muslim but you make perfect sense. I do believe he revels in any Christian death and that he is virulently anti Christian. Which fits with your take on him.

Anybody heard from the Pope today? Seems like it was just yesterday he said how wonderful and peaceful those muzzy’s are…
Wonder if he feels the same today?
