Sharia Pakistan: Police administer Qur’anic punishment, hack off hands of thieves

Jun 4, 2014 10:59 am By Robert Spencer

Pakistanpolice“Police disputed their version of the story, telling Reuters the men had cut their own hands with razor blades in a suicide attempt.” Yeah, sure, pull my other leg. The “justice” police meted out here was Qur’anic: “The thief, the male and the female, amputate their hands in recompense for what they committed as a deterrent from Allah.” — Qur’an 5:38

“Suspected robbers in Pakistan say police hacked off their hands,” by Asim Tanveer, Reuters, June 2, 2014 (thanks to Halal Pork Shop):

(Reuters) – Pakistani police chopped off the left hands of two men accused of theft after they refused to confess to stealing electrical wire and mobile phones, the victims told Reuters on Monday.

The two men, Ghulam Mustafa, 38, and Liaquat Ali, 42, said that police hacked off their hands with a large butcher’s knife on Friday.

“Four or five policemen held me down and cut my hand. I fainted from the pain,” Mustafa said in hospital in Bahawalpur in Punjab province.

“I and Liaquat were arrested eight days ago after local people falsely accused us of stealing and handed us over to the police who beat us and tortured us. Then on Friday, they did this.”

Police disputed their version of the story, telling Reuters the men had cut their own hands with razor blades in a suicide attempt, though it was not immediately clear how they could cut their hands off.

Medical staff said the men had been brought to the hospital by two policemen about eight hours after their hands were cut off. Both had lost a lot of blood.

“This looks like the work of an axe or similar tool. These are not self-inflicted wounds,” Aamir Ahmed, head of the emergency ward, told Reuters.

He said Mustafa arrived with his hand cut off completely and that one of the policemen carried it in a plastic bag.

Liaquat’s hand had also been cut but was still attached to his arm, the doctor said. “We have sown Liaquat’s hand back on but it will take weeks before we know if he will ever use it again,” Ahmed said.

Hacking off thieves’ hands is consistent with some tenets of Islamic Sharia law which often holds sway over constitutional law in parts of rural Pakistan.

The incident comes days after a pregnant woman was killed by suspected family members for marrying the man she loved in a story that has drawn condemnation from around the world.

A regional police spokeswoman, Nabeela Ghazanfar, denied the police had chopped off the hands.

“They were caught stealing and were thrashed by locals but finally rescued by police and admitted to hospital,” Ghazanfar said. “Mustafa’s wife and a couple of other females came to meet them at hospital and gave them food, clothes and shaving blades. They used the blades to cut their wrists.”

Personally, I don’t care what these inbred animals do to each other, but I wish others would take note of the quranic and sharia portion if this and not swayed by the usual argument that it’s “cultural” not “Islam”.

Funny thing, ahemmm! Would you believe it? The very same thing happened to me one time when I accidentally slipped while shaving my beard. Ahemmm! The damned razor slipped and completely chopped off my head! And confound-it, the cops showed up at my door right when it happened, threw my head in a plastic bag, rushed me to the hospital and now I’m just as good as new! Ahemmm!!! Oh God, what kind of depraved blood-thirsty demons have we become????

No, they’re not self-inflicting wounds, they’re pure sharia, pure islam, pure evil.

I’ve never believed in God, but after reading JihadWatch for I while I’ve started believing in the Devil. These people worship the Devil, and the Devil delivers for them. Didn’t our European ancestors believe that Mohamed was a demon? When did our theologians decide that Mohamed was a legitimate “prophet”?

No Christian theologian ever thought Muhammed was a true prophet because the Bible says that anyone who receives a message, even from an apparent angel of God, that is different than the one that St Paul preached was condemned because Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light .
Therefore Gabriel who allegedly spoke to Muhammed was NOT Gabriel the arch angel of God but a demon or even Satan himself!

Muhammad’s wet-nurse believed he had been possessed by a demon.
“She [Muhammad’s mother] asked me what happened and gave me no peace until I told her. When she asked if I feared a demon had possessed him, I replied that I did.” ”
Ibn Ishaq, Biography of Mohammed, Guillaume’s translation, page 72

Later in his life, after meeting the spirit in the cave Mohammed was convinced he was possessed, and tried to throw himself off a high cliff.

I sent an email to Zuhdi Jasser’s AIFD organization a few weeks ago.

    In its entirety, the body:

At some point, shouldn’t you tell your audience that your copy of the Qur’an reads the same as every other?

Shouldn’t you tell the American public–up front–that the recent amputations of thieves’ hands in Somalia and Mali were not carried out by “radical/radicalized” Muslims, Muslim “extremists”, or the followers of “radical” Islam whom we are expected to believe have “perverted”, “twisted”, or “hijacked” a peaceful religion.

Why not just tell them that Islam, as written, is antithetical to democracy and much of it is simply incompatible with the U.S. Constitution and precisely which passages from the Qur’an you wish to question, challenge, ignore or reform in your quest.

Our fellow citizens need to know the truth.

    ————————————

His assistant, Raquel Saraswati responded. Here’s the relevant paragraph:

“In brief, we at AIFD do not believe that our personal faith of Islam is antithetical to democracy, nor do we believe it is incompatible with the U.S. Constitution.”

While many of the Qur’an’s passages are subject to some interpretive variation, and while clerics and others may try to twist 5:38, it does mandate those amputations.

The Qur’an I received many years ago via CAIR’s “Discover the Qur’an” program (Muhammad Asad’s “The Message of the Quran”) provides a very detailed rationale for conducting that UNCONSTITUTIONALLY cruel and unusual punishment on page 174.

Her response, on Jasser’s behalf, bespeaks the Western Muslim world’s most obvious collective problem:

    The ongoing denials and lying.

I’m so glad, thanks to CAIR, that I, too, can read Islam’s truly ugly message.

“ Pakistani police chopped off the left hands of two men accused of theft after they refused to confess to stealing electrical wire and mobile phones, the victims told Reuters on Monday.”

They refused to confess to the theft and still lost their hands? What would their punishment be if they admitted they were the thieves?

“Police disputed their version of the story, telling Reuters the men had cut their own hands with razor blades in a suicide attempt, though it was not immediately clear how they could cut their hands off.”

Cut off their own hands with razor blades. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight… Well, I guess that’s a totally believable story for people who consider a thief, rapist, child molester, murdering sociopath as a messenger of god.

“Hacking off thieves’ hands is consistent with some tenets of Islamic Sharia law which often holds sway over constitutional law in parts of rural Pakistan.”

Sloppy news reporting, at best. The chopping of hands for thieves is mandated by the quran itself, so i’d like to know why it’s being reported as “merely” being “consistent with some tenets of Islamic Sharia law“. Their hands were cut because of sharia law, not because of some local law/tradition that coincidentally matches sharia. Also, i have yet to see a “version” of sharia that doesn’t include the chopping of hands as the penalty for theft.

“A regional police spokeswoman, Nabeela Ghazanfar, denied the police had chopped off the hands.

“They were caught stealing and were thrashed by locals but finally rescued by police and admitted to hospital,” Ghazanfar said. “Mustafa’s wife and a couple of other females came to meet them at hospital and gave them food, clothes and shaving blades. They used the blades to cut their wrists.””

    Once again, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

does it depend on whether it’s a first, second, or third time offense, or on the monetary or sentimental value of the stolen proprty, or what? Not that I think it’s ever justified, though.

Well it is possible that a judge might be too lenient so the police decided to cut out the judicial stage (no pun intended) and get straight to the punishment. Much more efficient. It gives an idea of what kind of people are policemen in Pakistan, it makes the often criticised US police quite benign

Notice how Shariah law works. There is no standard of proof, no beyond reasonable doubt, there is just the allegation. If a Muslim accuses a non-Muslim, that is usually sufficient under Shariah for the ummah to enforce it. If there is an allegation by a Muslim man against a woman, that is usually enough. Mohammad’s example in the Sunnah is the standard, and he acted on might. And, enforcing Shariah (Islamic principles) is a requirement on all Muslims – unless they want to be accused of being apostate which is punishable under Shariah law by death.
