Jihad Watch

Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

“Will Hollywood move to exploit the comic potential inherent in an army that’s forced to play by liberal rules?”

Jun 13, 2014 4:20 pm By Robert Spencer

DrStrangelove060PyxurzIn “Our Strangelove Military,” over at Aleteia, William Kilpatrick asks, “What if liberals ran the Army?” And of course they do already, which is why we are in the midst of an unfolding catastrophe. Get William Kilpatrick’s terrific new book here.

Dr. Strangelove is one of the funniest films ever made. Produced in 1964 at the height of the Cold War, the story concerns a rogue right-wing Air Force general who orders a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union and the frantic efforts by the president and his advisers to recall the bombers before it’s too late.

Convinced that the fluoridation of the water supply is a “commie” plot to sap “our precious bodily fluids,” the cigar-chewing General Jack D. Ripper (masterfully played by Sterling Hayden) became the template for a long line of Hollywood generals who, because of their paranoid view of the world, posed a threat to peace and security. The message of Strangelove and a dozen other military thrillers is that war is too important to be left in the hands of gung-ho conservatives.

But times change, and the Army has changed with the times. It’s not your father’s (or grandfather’s) army any more. It’s more like your Marxist, transgendered kid sister’s army. Well, that might be an exaggeration. There are still plenty of unconfused, level-headed, patriotic, and highly competent soldiers in the military. But there does seem to be a problem at the top, and it doesn’t have anything to do with square-jawed, commie-hunting maverick generals. Consequently, it may be time for Hollywood to come up with a new angle on the old story of conspiracy-obsessed officers with itchy trigger fingers.

Here’s an idea. What if, instead of a rogue right-wing general, it was liberal PC types that endangered national security? In short, what if liberals ran the Army?

It’s not really a hypothetical question. They already do. Let’s start with the Commander-in-Chief. Is he liberal? Is he radically cutting back on troop levels and defense spending? Does he look upon the military as our first line of defense or as the proving ground for every daffy social experiment that left-liberals can devise? (These are rhetorical questions and there is no penalty for incorrect answers — except maybe life in prison.)

In Dr. Strangelove, much is made of our supposedly insane Cold War policies. But has no one noticed that there’s something more than a little odd with current policies? Take the “Taliban trade” that’s currently in the spotlight. The president swapped five high-ranking Taliban commanders for one low-ranking sergeant of questionable patriotism. That’s like trading Reich Marshal Goering, Field Marshal Rommel, and Admiral Doenitz (supposing we had captured them) for the cook from Charley Company who got drunk one night, wandered over enemy lines, and fell into the hands of the Germans.

Even if the Bergdahl affair were an isolated incident, it would still have “rogue action” written all over it. The president doesn’t seem to have any more patience for advice and consent than General Ripper did. Unfortunately, the swap is only one in a long line of military misadventures that, were they in a movie, could only be treated as tragedy or high satire.

Here are some examples:

The largest leak of classified intelligence in history (WikiLeaks) was traced to a cross-dressing, twenty-two-year old private in Army intelligence. At his court martial, Private Bradley Manning’s attorneys argued that the court should be lenient on the grounds that their client suffered from “gender identity confusion.” Private Manning, who prefers to be called “Chelsea,” is now in Fort Leavenworth Prison, awaiting sex reassignment therapy. In compliance with his wishes, most news outlets now dutifully refer to “Miss” Manning as Chelsea or Chelsea Elizabeth. This, however, is probably not a blanket change in editorial policy. If George W. Bush were to reassign himself as a Democrat and ask to be called Franklin Delano Bush, it is unlikely that the media would comply so readily.

Gender confusion? How about plain old conventional confusion? Valerie Jarrett, one of the president’s top advisers, once attended a reception where she mistook a four-star general for a waiter. But that’s nothing. James Clapper, Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, mistook the Muslim Brotherhood for “a largely secular organization.” The Brotherhood’s creed is: “God is our objective; the Koran is our law; the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.” Luckily, the code-breakers at National Intelligence were able to determine the hidden message in all this — namely, “We are largely secular.” Meanwhile, John Brennan, the head of the CIA, has on at least a couple of occasions described jihad as a “holy struggle…to purify oneself or one’s community.” This is roughly equivalent to the World War II head of intelligence thinking that blitzkrieg was German for “cherry blintz.”

In an era when diversity and sensitivity trump security, such intelligence failures are to be expected. After Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan murdered fourteen people at Fort Hood, Army Chief of Staff General George Casey opined that although the massacre was a tragedy, “it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here.” That’s the kind of talk one might expect from the gung-ho General Turgidson in Dr. Strangelove. But in its own way the Fort Hood story is as strange as anything in Strangelove. When the film was produced, the idea of having the commander of a nuclear bomber wing go bonkers was considered daring. We’ve been on our guard against zealous right-wing generals ever since. But how about zealous Muslim psychiatrists? That sort of threat wasn’t even on the radar when Stanley Kubrick directed and produced the film.

Kubrick could hardly have imagined that, half a century on, our troops would have to worry about a gun-wielding Muslim psychiatrist and the politically correct protocols that enabled him. After all, the plot of Dr. Strangelove hinges on the fact that no one realizes General Ripper is unhinged until it’s too late. The crazy thing about the Fort Hood massacre is that many people knew that there was something radically wrong with Hasan long before the shooting, but they also knew that they might get sentenced to six months sensitivity training or worse if they said anything about it. As the Associated Press reported, “a fear of appearing discriminatory against a Muslim [medical] student kept officers from filing a formal written complaint.” So they held their tongues, and instead of being handed his walking papers, Hasan was given the Pentagon’s Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and various glowing recommendations. Even after the shooting, political correctness held sway. After conducting a lengthy investigation, the Department of Defense concluded that the jihad massacre was just a typical case of “workplace violence.”

What if liberals with their PC ways ran the Army? We’re beginning to find out. It’s not just that political correctness allows misfits like Bradley Manning and Nidal Hasan to fly under the radar, in effect it turns off the radar. In 2011 and 2012, at the behest of Muslim lobby groups, the FBI, the Department of Defense, and other national security agencies were ordered to purge their counterterror training materials of any references to Islam that the activist groups found offensive. In effect, Islamists now decide what America’s defenders will learn about Islam. (Hint: it’s all about peace.)

Meanwhile, as the military becomes more non-offensive in the PC sense, it’s also becoming more non-offensive in the sense of not having enough men and materials to defend our country’s interests. The Pentagon recently announced plans to scale back the U.S. Army by more than an eighth. That will bring it back to the lowest level since before World War II. This comes at a time when Russia is eyeing Ukraine, China is eyeing various Pacific islands, and Islamists are eyeing the whole planet. However, it’s not as though our own military is unconcerned with the planet. The Army has been switching to environmentally friendly lead-free “green” bullets. Reportedly they don’t have as much stopping power as the old bullets, but what the heck — they’re good for the eco-system!

Although the PCing of the military is extremely serious and possibly catastrophic in its consequences, it also has its comic side. The situation cries out for the Dr. Strangelove treatment. Will Hollywood move to exploit the comic potential inherent in an army that’s forced to play by liberal rules?

Don’t hold your breath. The same people who now run the government and military also run the media and entertainment industries. But just in case anyone should be interested, it so happens that I have written a short comic novel along those very lines. It’s titled Insecurity and it’s available on Amazon here. Check it out. That’s an order, mister!

Interesting comment by the author. It sounds awfully paranoid. I wonder who it is that these people are who are secretly in control of the military, the government, the media and the entertainment industry are? One wonders.

Considering the trash that this author recently put out, “Christianity, Islam and Atheism: The Struggle for The Soul of The West” and his blaming of secularists and atheists (btw atheism should not be capitalized as it is not a belief system) as the enablers of Jihadis everywhere, I would imagine that this claptrap to be just as filled with stupid conspiracies and nonsense. From his comments about his new book, I see that I am not off the mark.

Sorry I capitalised atheism and secularism but then I’m one of those who revels in claptrap.

You’re tedious, stupid and wrong, JIMJFOX. There is a huge coalition, which is growing by the year, of religious and non-religious people who oppose what Islam intends for all of us.

Violence committed in the name of religion by non-Muslims is almost non-existent. Let’s face it, Christian suicide bombers are kind of scarce, Buddhists killing people for criticizing their religion not an everyday event and Jewish rabbis stoning adultresses pretty rare, don’t you think? Meanwhile, just since 9/11 there have been over 23,000 documented Islamic terrorist attacks worldwide (and this figure doesn’t include the “merely” attempted ones). But what is your approach? Why, excessive tu quoque reasoning by which you excoriate all religion.

As I said, you are tedious, stupid and wrong. It would be difficult to be more limited than you are on this most important matter. So, get lost, loser.

Style manuals generally have all words in a title with four or more letter in capitals. That is why “atheism” is capitalized. With a progressive president and progressives in high positions in the media, it’s to be expected that institutions would be managed in a progressivel fashion.

Many atheists, (secularists, humanists, non-deists, what have you), routinely fall short on the proper vilification of Islam as comparative to all other deistic faiths in current history. They tend to engage in absolute religious moral equivalency.

This is certainly understandable to a point given their belief system, (and yes, unconditional non-belief is indeed a belief system), but it does not address the quantity nor the homogeny of the current empirical evidence presented to them on a daily basis regarding violence induced by faith.

Islam, as it existed historically, and as it exists today has overtly “cornered the market” in that regard. The empirical evidence is irrefutable. Furthermore, analysis and comparison of religious texts will only confirm that reality.

While it is certainly true that historical violence in the name of purported religious ideology has occurred across a a wide spectrum historically, it was and is not cordoned to deistic belief systems alone. Many non-deistic belief systems have the historical body counts to support that assertion.

Reformations, most notably in Christianity, are enigmatic to Islam, given the foundation and contents of its canonical texts, the “trilogy of terror”.

Islam ceased to evolve around 1100 A.D., and recent events, in the last 50 years or so at least, tends to support that argument as well.

The great points in the article of Kilpatrick, as provided here by the intrepid Robert Spencer, are, and continue to be wholly lost on many non-deists.

That is most unfortunate, for militant non-believers cannot escape their anti-religious moral equivalency nature which results in an unwitting assist to Islam.

The proof is in the doctrinal texts. The Golden Rule of Christianity does not currently exist, and never has, in Islam. That provable assertion alone is an important fact to consider.

By the way, did Iraq officially fall today?

As a high school social studies teacher, this is why I sometimes introduce myself as a professional swindler of the the young, their families, and their communities.

The ejjikashun (I won’t dignify it by the term “education”) I am directed to give is itself the product of a number of forces which, since the so-called “enlightenment” have taken deep root in Western society, and while purporting to make us wiser, in fact make us foolish. Our supposedly “best” minds have been looking at Christ and screaming for two or more centuries now, “We will not have this man to reign over us” (Luke 19:14).

As a result, we are supposed to be “objective” about Islam and note its supposed “tolerance” (without considering how the Ummayads, needing their Dhimmi populations badly to keep their state running, are no comparison to Los Reyes Catholicos who, after a couple centuries of Almoravis and Almohade oppression, could perhaps be excused for having such a hard edge). Further, while screaming “racist” at every dissenter, we are supposed to suggest that the real reason the 20th century’s Communist experiment didn’t let loose the “unheralded productive forces” promised by Uncle Karl was because the Russians and Chinese were “backwards” peoples (Uentermenschen and Primitive Asiatics, anyone?).

We are to scream in horror at any possibility that the Christian faith might be publicly professed by officials or teachers; yet ignore that Evolutionary Materialists (at least those in a hurry) killed over 160,000,000 in the 20th century alone in the names of Nation, Progress, and Social Justice.

Hence, the so-called “atheist” (actually, a worship of cosmos, state, self, or any number of other little godlets) is the cool kid and congratulated for thinking “outside the box”, while one who has learned to read carefully in the Bible (a fungible skill when applied to other kinds of reading, believe me) at his parents’ knees is “limited”. No wonder we now live in a country where Johnny can’t read (and won’t) or figure! No wonder we have articles like the one above published! No wonder we have no real sense of justice, but look only at whose ox is being gored.

No wonder our leaders have made us a prey to a religion and culture that has produced only slums surrounded by deserts–including some in lands once fertile and productive.

People are kidding themselves if they can’t see a pattern of subtle messages in movies and tv shows. Sometime, not so subtle. In the movie “Julie and Julia” the central character finds the victims of 9-11 SO ANNOYING and the characters are bashing Republicans in many scenes- their heartlessness and intolerance. Julie’s boss says to her, after an unexused absence from work, “if I were a Republican I’d FIRE you”.
In 1979 there was a made for tv movie with Robert Vaughn entitled “Backstairs at the White House” in which Woodrow Wilson was portrayed as a civil-rights proponant and a true friend of the black man. I have NO IDEA what was up with the musical “Evita”. These are just a few random examples of how audiences are played into certain modes of thinking.

And incidentally I do believe that there would be included in the list of child abusers any number of Atheists, and possibly proportionally more than those in the Catholic Church, which co-incidentally has a lower percentage per capita of child abusers than that found in secular society. When I graduated from high school in 1964, there was no work to be found. I was also going to be drafted. So I joined the Air Force, scoring highest in my test groups and promised Crypto School, Nuclear Weapons Handling, Air Traffic Control. After basic at Lackland, I spent another eight weeks there in Air Police school, which was more or less Army basic. At my duty base, my first “watch” was the swing shift between 6 and midnight. The backup reserve squad could do anything as long as it stayed a group and carried its weapons. We decided to go to the basic theater. And guess what was playing: Strangelove. I sat open-mouthed almost throughout the whole film. It was then that I realized that something was terribly wrong with the country. It didn’t think it was very funny, but the other guys in my squad did.

    • Davegreybeard says

And there is something “terribly wrong with our country.”

Not mentioned above, is the forbidden subject of the new “its O.K. if you’re openly Gay” policy of the U.S. military. This social experiment will considerably weaken our forces at “The pointy end of the spear” as it will destroy unit cohesiveness and effectiveness.

It is one thing to work with an openly gay comrade in an office or even perhaps on an aircraft carrier – it is quite something else to be forced to live with such behavior 24/7 in filthy, stressful conditions where your job description is to personally kill people. The policy adds a considerable social stress factor that has no logical reason for existing, other than to appease a foolish and destructive Liberal agenda.

“Don’t ask don’t tell” made sense for everyone involved. But, as with so much of the Liberal Leftist ideology, common sense must be sacrificed on the altar of the “Progress”

We will pay a price for such foolishness.

The “gay” issue didn’t even exist during my time in the military. Most of the training sergeants who were in charge of flights were tough-as-nails blacks who made their people work hard and they would have laughed at what passes for basic training today, and also at the kinds of noncoms all the services are producing because of liberal policies.

The government needs to realize the menace Islam is to our Democracy , freedoms, Human rights gender equality and Constitution and ban the muslims from entering USA the way communists were banned!

Kubrick could hardly have imagined that, half a century on, our troops would have to worry about a gun-wielding Muslim psychiatrist and the politically correct protocols that enabled him.

Kubrick had no knowledge of what Moslems are and what they do, so he didn’t have broad options on what the ideology would be to blow up the Cold War. There has been almost scant fact-reporting coverage of them since the beginning, 1,400 yrs ago. Yeah, now, with modern air travel, the Internet and mutlicultural globo-socialist racist immigration and student exchange policies, the Infidel people are aware of Moslems and that they have an undeniable linkage to accusations, threats and mass murders. The media includes the teachers & the professoriat and the entertainers and bureaucrats in addition to the talking heads on the TV news entertainment industry air. The media teach the populace that Moslems and their Islam is ok, that this is just a passing phase as natives from Morocco to the stretching to the southern Philippines integrate into Europe, North America and Down Under.

The phase has been 14 centuries now, and it ain’t gonna pass. No passing phase here.

Hell, it’s almost not permitted to tell the true facts and take a realistic view of what Moslems do amongst themselves, in the privacy of their own hell-holes.

Absolutely right. Certainly at least one european country (Sweden?) has prosecuted those who tell the truth about the ROP on the basis that although true, it is still a crime to “incite religious hatred”.
To my shock, two (former) friends turned out to be liberal leftists- one excusing the Lee Rigby atrocity as caused by ‘legitimate grievances, unemployment and social disadvantage’, another vilifying me as being a ‘Daily Mail reader and intolerant racist’.
WTF have these fools been smoking? Neither has the first idea of what Islam really is, yet they spout this drivel as if they are authorities on it.
I fear we have a LONG battle ahead to expose this sort of ignorance and arrogance…

Thanks to the Internet now its easy to learn by reading the Koran , Sira and Hadith that Muhammad was a criminal, murderer, pedophile, slavetrader, bandit worthy of our contempt, that the apostates are to be killed according to the Koran which also teaches that women are inferior to males and that the husbands must beat disobedient wives!
Soon the muslim women will revolt and Islam will collapse the way he soviet union did in 1989!

I remember the words of Gen. George Patton. Not exact quote. ‘I don’t want you to die for your country, I want you to make the other bastards die for their country’
Do not worry about those who call you racist. That is the last refuge of the intellectually stunted mind. They do not know you, so how can they know what your attitudes to other races are? In fact they are racists themselves as they promote the extinction of the white race!

See, patriotism still is the last refuge of the scoundrel!

I don’t believe in anything that tries to commit us to one tribe or another- divide and conquer? Of course, “can’t we all get along” is pollyanna thinking- evil does exist and Pinker is spot on that human nature is NOT naturally ‘good’.

Racism is indeed the catch-all knee jerk response of the Islamically deranged mind and some other groups (Leftists, Marxists)

        O/T
I was accused of hating christianity- what I ACTUALLY said was “I’m not enamoured of other religions”, I believe. But the radical christians here decided otherwise in their crude (but charitably christian) responses.
Truth is, any other religion is preferable to Islam, no matter that I find them all absurd.

Atheism is a religion …so by your measure it is absurd, as well.

Religion is the root cause of much of the savagery as Islam becomes more and more powerful. Pretending other religions are blameless is just that, pretence. And underpinning religion is ‘faith’, that blind, obstinate belief in the absurd; admit it, this is the foundation of and justification for much suffering as it divides us into our beloved ‘in groups’ & ‘out groups’.

Many here hate atheism presumably because it confronts this absurd obstinacy.
I don’t care about ad hom attacks, water off a duck’s back but AM disturbed by the level of religiosity- again, it’s not just Islam, religion itself is the issue. Always has been, always will be.

    Don’t like it- tough, it’s a fact.

      @JIMJFOX
Trying to absolve Islamic ideology by lumping it together with Christianity might seem like a politically correct thing to do so as not to appear to be Islamophobic but Islamists will still kill atheists no matter how frequently they criticize other religions because Muslims are not stupid and they are well aware that many liberal atheists will talk behind their backs soon after pandering and groveling before them about the other religions.

Your attempt to play the victim now is a bit pathetic

Tired old saw about religion as the source of trouble.

The fact is, in the 20th century alone, Evolutionary Materialists (especially those in a hurry) killed over 160,000,000 persons over nation, progress, social justice, and other ideals. That’s more than suffered for the wrong kind of Christianity or none at all in the 15 centuries between the conversion of Constantine and Napoleon’s shutting down the Spanish Inquisition in 1804.

That religion is responsible for much savagery (your opinion Mr. Fox) is as absurd as your conclusion that “…many here hate atheism because it confronts this absurd obstinacy” and also “Don’t like it-tough, it’s a fact”.
To begin with can you say who here hates atheism? Or more specifically atheists?
Further, atheism may well confront the so-called “absurd obstinacy” but not with any convincing evidence sufficient to cause dismay to those who hold this “absurd obstinacy”.
Regarding “-tough, it’s a fact” is rather a wide sweeping statement with insufficient evidence or proof to any sane person that it could be considered fact. Fact is – it’s nonsense.
As to religion being the cause of much savagery I would counter that with the evidence of the slaughter of many many millions of children, un-born and utterly defenceless, with the consent of governments and so-called caring-agencies, without a hint of religion being mentioned. (Except of course the efforts by religious organisations to oppose this horrific genocide worldwide)
      Don’t like it?–Tough it is a fact.

I have to admit that reading much of this thread has been *very* dispiriting.

Remember, pious Muslims have *all of us* in their sights—Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Agnostics, Atheists, Wiccans, Animists—*all of us*. (and I’m not going to quibble one way or the other which groups should be capitalized, and why or why not that should be so)

Islam is the threat. We need to stand together against this threat—or we shall all assuredly fall before it.

      You are so right!
We have to daily denounce the pedophile murderer bandit and slave trader muhammad, denounce and burn the Koran as a hate book that forbids muslims to be friends with jews, christians and infidels and orders the muslims to kill them or force them to pay Tax and declares women inferior to males ordering the husbands to beat their wives when they disobey!
      ORTHODOX ISLAM= BARBARITY!
