“We will bring back the caliphate, and if God does not make it our fate to restore the caliphate, then we ask him to grant us martyrdom.” Sounds like a plan.
“Chechen in Syria a rising star in extremist group,” by Bassem Mroue, Associated Press, July 2, 2014:
BEIRUT (AP) — A young, red-bearded ethnic Chechen has rapidly become one of the most prominent commanders in the breakaway al-Qaida group that has overrun swaths of Iraq and Syria, illustrating the international nature of the movement.
Omar al-Shishani, one of hundreds of Chechens who have been among the toughest jihadi fighters in Syria, has emerged as the face of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, appearing frequently in its online videos — in contrast to the group’s Iraqi leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdad [sic], who remains deep in hiding and has hardly ever been photographed.
In a video released by the group over the weekend, al-Shishani is shown standing next to the group’s spokesman among a group of fighters as they declare the elimination of the border between Iraq and Syria. The video was released just hours before the extremist group announced the creation of a caliphate — or Islamic state — in the areas it controls.
“Our aim is clear and everyone knows why we are fighting. Our path is toward the caliphate,” the 28-year-old al-Shishani declares. “We will bring back the caliphate, and if God does not make it our fate to restore the caliphate, then we ask him to grant us martyrdom.”…

I had always thought that the OIC was supposed to be the new face of the caliphate, or working toward restoring the same. How am I supposed to view the relationship between the OIC and ISIS/ISIL/IS?

I do not think there is a relation between OIC and IS – IS probably thinks that OIC has failed, and are going about reestablishing the Caliphate “the old fashioned way” – or more precisely they have asked themselves: “What would Muhammed do?” They also think obviusly that OIC have member states that are by their definition “apostate countries” – So in short there really isn’t a connection between OIC and IS, but then again was OIC really a connection between muslim countries? In my experience muslims countries have great diffculty actually coordinating their efforts in anything – they constantly argue with each other blaming the other side for failures if not apostesy. ISIS on the other hand seems to be the group that will unite the muslim world, by violence and promises of a restored caliphate and “justice”, a lot of muslims are and will be bying into it because they live miserable lives – sort of like the germans bying into Hitlers bullshit becase they didn’t have a penny to their name…….

His “aim is clear”. Our aim better be right on target. If you are in the United States consider arming yourself. Even if you do not want a firearm yourself, support the Constitutional right of others to fill their hand.

I am quite, quite sure that between them President Assad of Syria and Vladimir Putin of Russia will be only too happy to expedite the “Martyrdom” part of his desire.
