Dearborn: Muslim confesses to burning Qur’ans at Islamic center

Jul 7, 2014 8:59 pm By Robert Spencer

al-AssadiLast month, the Imam Husham al-Husainy used the Qur’ans burned at the Karbalaa Center to call for Sharia restrictions on the freedom of speech. Now it turns out that the Qur’ans were burned by Ali Hassan Al-Assadi, a Muslim who was angry with people at the local mosques and says he burned the Qur’ans in retribution. Al-Husainy, sensing his “Islamophobia” narrative crumbling, claims without any evidence or foundation that “Islamophobes” were behind al-Assadi’s actions anyway. In any case, whatever al-Assadi’s motives, his actions certainly served al-Husainy’s anti-free speech agenda. Now the poor imam is bereft.

“Iraqi American man arrested while burning Qur’an in Dearborn,” by Ali Harb, Arab American News, July 4, 2014 (thanks to Halal Pork Shop):

DEARBORN — On Wednesday June 25, police arrested an Iraqi American who was trying to burn the Qur’an in front of the Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center on Warren Avenue.

Ali Hassan Al-Assadi, 50, of Detroit, also admitted to burning three Qur’ans at the Karbalaa Center on June 10, according to Lt. Doug Topolski of the Dearborn Police Department.

The first Qur’an burning incident coincided with the visit of an anti-Muslim pastor from Florida and made national headlines.

Al-Assadi was charged with littering and “unlawful escape of soot.” Releasing soot, an ash-like substance produced by the incomplete burning of organic items, breaches Dearborn’s fire code. He posted bonds of $300 and $200, respectively, for the two violations.

Al-Assadi told police that he sought help from local mosques to solve a legal matter, but when he was turned down, he became angry at the faith and decided to burn Qur’ans in retribution.

On June 25, around noon, Al-Assadi was standing on the sidewalk in front of Karbalaa Center, holding a wooden club. A Qur’an was burning on the ground next to him. According to the police report, he threatened to strike a witness with the club if he came closer. Meanwhile, another witness took the club away from him and put the fire out.

Imam Husham Al-Husainy, the spiritual leader of the Karbalaa Center, said he does not know Al-Assadi. “He never asked for my help. I have never met him,” he said.

Al-Husainy added that he does not think Al-Assadi is acting on his own.

“Regardless of his identity, he has the same motives and goals as the anti-Islamic extremists,” explained Al-Husainy. “Some people say he is mentally unstable. But we have been here at the center for 20 years and never witnessed anything like this. Why now? This could be a continuation of the failed visit of Terry Jones.”

Jones is the anti-Muslim pastor from Florida. The imam said he has information linking Jones’ supporters to the June 10 incident.

He added that the Qur’an burnings aim to divide the interfaith community in Dearborn and to distract Arabs from the turmoil that is taking place in their homelands.

“This is not a work of madness,” he said. “It is a deliberate plan to keep us busy and distracted here at a time when our people are being killed in Iraq and across the Arab world.”

However, the imam added that the anti-Islamic events that took place over the past month have failed to stir conflicts because locals of all faiths stood in solidarity with Muslims. “They gave us an incentive to be united as one community,” he said.

Al-Husainy said Al-Assadi, whose name suggests he was born to a Muslim family, is not known in the local Iraqi community.

“He cannot be a Muslim,” said Al-Husainy. “No Muslim would ever do something like this.”

    ““Regardless of his identity, he has the same motives and goals as the anti-Islamic extremists,” explained Al-Husainy.”

    Wait, anti-islamic extremists are motivated for being turned down when seeking legal help at mosques? So Husainy is saying that muslims brought it down on themselves?

    ““Some people say he is mentally unstable.”

    Which people would that be? I’m asking because Husainy goes and says that Al-Assadi is not known in the local Iraqi community. Lol, catching a liar is easier than catching a lame person – and Husainy seems to be as lame liar as they come.

    ““He cannot be a Muslim,” said Al-Husainy. “No Muslim would ever do something like this.””

    The guy went to seek legal help in a mosque. Seems like a strange place for a muslim to seek legal help. Anyway, where’s the takfir?

      A mosque is a court, where Sharia law is dispensed.

        My bad, the penultimate line in my post should read “Seems like a strange place for a non-muslim to seek legal help”.

          BINGO! No kafir would go to a mosque for legal help.

          This guy was being ignored and DESPERATE and now the mosqueteers lie like a rug, claiming they don’t know him. He was obviously a pain in the butt to them before he took revenge to embarrass them.

    Al-Assadi was fined $200 for “unlawful escape of soot?” Does that mean there’s also no smoking of cigarettes, cigars or pipes within the city limits of Dearborn without running the risk of being ticketed by the police? I guess motor vehicle exhaust is exempt though. Whew!

      Heating with a wood stove should also be banned…’Thou shall release no soot’, shall be the law of the land…

    Uh, Al-Husainy…who’s doing all that killing of your “people”?? Most of it at the hands of, oh yeah, your “people”. Nobody kills a muslim quite as often or as brutally as another muslim.

    And what about all the Christians dying at the hands of muslims?? Not talking about that much, are you??? Every day is a murderfest around the planet in the name of allah (satan). islam sucks.

    So, al-Assadi turns against the Islamic faith?

    I hope he regains a bit of personal equilibrium and stability and follows through on this.

    Once upon a time a Wolf was lapping at a spring on a hillside, when, looking up, what should he see but a Lamb just beginning to drink a little lower down. “There’s my supper,” thought he, “if only I can find some excuse to seize it.” Then he called out to the Lamb, “How dare you muddle the water from which I am drinking?”

    “Nay, master, nay,” said Lambikin; “if the water be muddy up there, I cannot be the cause of it, for it runs down from you to me.”

    “Well, then,” said the Wolf, “why did you call me bad names this time last year?”

    “That cannot be,” said the Lamb; “I am only six months old.”

    “I don’t care,” snarled the Wolf; “if it was not you it was your father;” and with that he rushed upon the poor little Lamb and ate her all up. But before she died she gasped out:

    Moral of Aesops Fable: “Any excuse will serve a tyrant.”

    Well, once again locals of all faiths are assembled to show support for Muslims, after the first Quran burning which occurred just before the arrival of pastor Jones.
    It’s a Shia Iraqi mosque, this alone should make everyone suspect foul play.

    “He never asked for my help. I have never met him,” he said.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
    He claims to have never met him, and yet,

    Al-Husainy added that he does not think Al-Assadi is acting on his own.

    “Regardless of his identity, he has the same motives and goals as the anti-Islamic extremists,” explained Al-Husainy.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

    If he never met the man, how could he know his “motives and goals”?
    When the police are investigating a crime, they look for motives, such as a need for money, desire for revenge, etc. But it is always something they must investigate. It is never something they just automatically find when they see a crime has been committed. So, this imam guy, who claims he never met the man who burned the books, knows the motives and goals. And

    “Some people say he is mentally unstable. But we have been here at the center for 20 years and never witnessed anything like this. Why now? ”
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

    Just because it hasn’t happened before in the twenty years does not mean that the guy is mentally stable. After all, as the saying goes, “There is a first time for everything.” Perhaps he just built up to it or maybe what he claimed is true, that he didn’t get any help for his legal troubles and wanted to get even for the lack of help, choosing to do the burning when Terry Jones was visiting locally, and may perhaps be blamed. The imam’s arguments don’t hold water.
    And belief in the ‘prophet’ and his ‘all powerful god’ who needs men to fight his battles for him, from where some of us sit, doesn’t make for the best argument for mental health.
    &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

    If the guy is telling the truth about his reasons for burning the books, evidently he was taking out his anger in a way that would give him an emotional release, inflict pain of the local muslims, and at the same time, throw blame on the innocent non-muslim. But as is usual, the imam doesn’t want to accept the truth of the matter. It’s too easy to say the angry…disgruntled…muslim is working with Terry Jones, who was in the area. And had Jones not been in the area, what then? Would it be that the imam would accept, yes, even claim, that the burner of the book was ‘mentally unstable,’ for no ‘muslim would do that’?

    Does anybody seriously believe that a NON muslim burning a Quran in front of an Islamic centre (particularly one in Dearborn) whilst holding a wooden club and threatening to strike people with it would be charged only with littering and a technical breach of a fire code?

    ”Al-Assadi told police that he sought help from local mosques to solve a legal matter, but when he was turned down, he became angry at the faith and decided to burn Qur’ans in retribution”

    So, where are all the mohammedans, righteously rioting, burning and destroying, because the koran has been ‘disrespected’ ? As in Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc ? Are they too cautious to do it in America ? Because they know that even the dhimmified, useful tool leftards would find that a bridge too far ?

    Surely it couldn’t be because burning a koran is merely an **excuse** for doing what mohammedans do best ? No, surely not.

    Is burning Quran a crime in good old US of A that this Muslim is arrested?? Was burning a crime or there were other “fake” charges to “please” Muslims of Dearbornistan. Where is this Muslim’s freedom of expression guaranteed in our constitution?? LOL..

  16. Alarmed Pig Farmer says

    It doesn’t matter that a Moslem burned them. Desecrating the Holy Ko-Ran is strictly forbidden, and somebody’s got to pay the price. Given that this Moslem is only gonna get a small fine, maybe action should be taken against an Infidel for his anti-Cause thinking.
