“His choice of accessory, which is believed to be either a Rolex, Sekonda or £3,500 Omega seamaster, has been highlighted as jarring with the content of his controversial speech.” So says Oliver Duggan in the Telegraph. The New York Post quoted a Muslim calling the caliph a hypocrite: “Why does the ‘Caliph’ wear a fancy watch if the possessions of this life ultimately mean nothing?”
“Terror warlord al-Baghdadi denounces the West – but is spotted wearing ‘£3,500 James Bond wristwatch,'” chortles the ever-clueless Daily Mail.
“‘Follow my every word and you too will have a Rolex’; Islamic State leader wears luxury watch to first-ever public address,” laughs Twitchy. “ISIS Leader Mocked for Wearing Expensive Wristwatch in First Public Appearance,” says Daniel Politi a bit more soberly in Slate.
None of these reports are written by anyone who knows the first thing about Islamic theology regarding the spoils of war, which is the title of an entire chapter of the Qur’an (the eighth). Here are the reasons why the caliph probably chose to wear this watch in his first address, and wanted to make sure it was seen: “ISIS Caliph of All Muslims Wears Stolen $6000 Watch,” by Daniel Greenfield, FrontPage Mag, July 6, 2014:
…Some are calling this a misstep, but looting was the core of Mohammed’s conquests. His followers weren’t all that devout, they were looking for stuff to steal. That is why many of Mohammed’s original targets, including the Jews, were well off.
Like most thieves, Mohammed went where the money was.
“Allah made booty lawful and good. He used it to incite the Muslims to unity of purpose. So enjoy what you have captured.
Ishaq:327
“Allah saw what was in their hearts [what they coveted] so he rewarded them with victory and with as much spoil as they could take. Allah promised that they would soon capture a great deal of booty.”
Ishaq:503
Allah taught them how to divide the spoil. He made it lawful and said, ‘A fifth of the booty belongs to the Apostle. (Mohammed)’
Ishaq:324
On the Badr expedition, the Messenger took the sword of Dhu al-Faqar as booty. It had belonged to Munabbih. On that day he also took Abu Jahl’s camel as booty. It was a Mahri dromedary on which he used to go on raids. It is said that he wrote ‘Ma’aqil’ [Blood-Money] on his sword.”
Religion was a means for Mohammed to rob people. It’s not that different from what Al-Bagdadi is doing. The “spiritual” aspect of martyrdom simply promised those of the Mohammedan bandits who died in the process of robbing people that they would enjoy the spoils of victory, e.g. food, women, wealth, in Islamic paradise.
Islam, as I have said before, is innately a gang religion. Its faith is in its ability to steal from others.
Islam always reverts back to the gang. It comes out of the desert and returns to the desert. It begins with a handful of men raiding civilized towns and cities. And no matter how much time must pass and how the world turns, it always reverts back there. Over a thousand years later, the climactic struggle of Islam is almost indistinguishable from what it was in the time of Mohammed.
The gang can only think of fighting more, killing more and doing the same things it did last week again. It finds meaning in the ethos of the fight and in the comradeship of fellow gang members. That is why Jihad is so central to Islam. It is why women occupy such an inferior position. Jihad is the gang culture of Islam. Its bonding rituals are central to Islam whose original elements derive mainly from the raids of Mohammed and his companions against the more civilized peoples of the region.
Islam finds its meaning from fighting and killing non-Muslims. It is the only meaning that it can ever have.
Now Islam is right back where it started. Where it always comes back to. Warlords looting cities and showing off their booty.
‘Muhammad, divide the spoil and booty of camels and cattle among us.’ They forced the Prophet up against a tree, and his robe was torn from him. Muhammad cried, ‘Give me back my robe. If there had been more sheep I would have given you some. You have not found me to be niggardly, cowardly or false.
Al-Tabari, Vol. 9, p. 31,
This is the real Islam.
Al-Bagdadi and his stolen Rolex are true heirs of Mohammed, the bandit prophet.
No Fear says
You only have to read the life story of Mohammed and his manifesto (Quran) to know that he was a gangster who sought to enlarge his gang of loyal henchmen.
It’s very, very obvious.

“Islam is innately a gang religion.” THAT IS THE BEST DESCRIPTION I HAVE EVER READ….
Please stop piling disrespect on Al-Baghdadi for his pricey wristwatch. He operates in severe battlefields.
A wimpy $30 Timex is not going to survive long enough to tell him when the next mass homicide is due.
Maybe he stole it off the bullet-shredded body of a heretical imam…
Guy Macher says
How dare any of you filthy kafir dogs imply that Beloved Leader, Mohamed bin Barak bin Osama bin Obama bin Bagged Daddi, bought that watch! He stole it from a filthy kafir dog!
JP says
Get a life!
What a shame you are

JP, Guy Macher was being sarcastic here. He is a solid Anti-Jihadist who is a longtime poster here at Jihad Watch.

I hereby declare you to be the C.O.C. — Caliphate Official Comedian.
But you probably should not play summer resorts in the Catskills Borsht Belt …

Heh heh heh……OK.

Control yourself, man!

Or maybe that should be C.O.C.K – Caliphate Official Comedian Kaffir. We wouldn’t want to upset their sensibilities.

Someone could start a new website, reporting on various clerics and terrorist leaders who wear expensive watches — Watch Watch.
Or not 🙂
john spielman says
oh .
Emil Cohen says
This guy has cut the hand that owned this watch, most likely killed the owner.
I just do not see him visiting a fancy store to buy a watch.
Buraq says
A Caliph wearing a Rolex! Is it a wind up? :))
Clown!
pennant8 says
This deal with the hot Rolex or whatever it is serves as the perfect illustration of Islamo-reason, Islamo-logic, Islamo-FUedness. A religion spread by robbing and pillaging has a law that calls for amputating the hands of thieves.
jihad3tracker says
The hand amputation threat is necessary to prevent the actual owners ( of loot Muzzies steal ) from trying to get it back.
gravenimage says
Amputation is only a penalty for stealing *from* Muslims. Muslims engaging in robbery, piracy, extortion, or caravan raiding is, of course, perfectly Halal.
Jaladhi says
This is obviously a stolen watch from an infidel. His religion tells him to do this – just like his idol that caravan raider who declared himself messenger of allah.

Furor over caliph’s wristwatch demonstrates anew the ignorance of mainstream media analysts of Islam and jihad

Yes, I’ve seen this criticism, and it could not be more witless.
Do these tools think that Al-Bagdadi is Mother Teresa or somebody? Why is it ironic in any way for a war-lord to be sporting the booty of his victims?
Not only did “the Prophet” take one-fifth of all booty, but “the apostle” got to decide *which* one-fifth that might be.
After all, in most cases they weren’t stealing easily-dividable cash. So Muhammed got to take the best weaponry, the richest stuffs, the finest camels and horses—and the most attractive and highest-ranking women as sex-slaves or wives, as well.
Why should the new Caliph be any different?
boakai ngombu says
it might be booty. it might not be.
as a supremacist, Al-Bagdadi must show up with all accessories demonstrating his supremacy
that he wears the watch on the right hand indicates he’s lefthanded. to some that may be a problem … showing inferiority … not superior.
someone should look at the shoes, the car, little things like that
if he’s following Muhamad (lately contrived; full of lusts) he’s probably going after all he can get, and hear say, by any means … the grotesque critter called Muhammad did [with, of course, the concurrence of the Allah god of Islam (unknowable; the best of all deceivers)]
pumbar says
it’s probably a knock off. fifty quid, with a bottle of tommy hilfinger thrown in for when he shaves his bikini line.

Not necessarily, Boakai.
I decided to Google it, and ludicrously—but hardly surprisingly—there is myriad “leaned Islamic thought” on which wrist a pious Muslim should wear his wristwatch on:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=should+a+muslim+wear+his+watch+on+his+left+or+right+wrist%3F&gbv=2&oq=should+a+muslim+wear+his+watch+on+his+left+or+right+wrist%3F&gs_l=heirloom-hp.12…1208.16558.0.20455.60.13.1.45.46.1.935.2960.0j3j5j1j6-1.10.0….0…1ac.1.34.heirloom-hp..48.12.2771.7zzW3nQCI7k
One opines that a man who wears his watch on his right wrist is “a woman”—presumably since most right-handed men wear their watch on their left wrist, I suppose some force Musimahs to wear them on the opposite wrist.
But some also hold that since the left hand is inferior, that wearing the watch on the left wrist is wrong. This is probably what Al-Bagdadi is doing here.
There is also much tedious parsing of what the Hadith say about the wearing of rings, and how—if at all—that applies to wristwatches.
Of course, the whole thing is just witless. Westerners—who, of course, invented the wristwatch in the first place—just wear it on whichever wrist is most useful, and for most of us, that is on the wrist of our non-dominant hand.
And that’s for people who still wear wristwatches in the first place, and don’t just use their cell phones at this point…
in any case, though, we can see that pious Muslims spend a lot more time thinking about the “moral” repercussions of which wrist to use than they do over rape, pedophilia, oppressing Infidels, and lining the streets of their new Caliphate with the severed heads of their enemies. *Ugh*.
Champ says
Oh the irony …mohammedans noticed his wrist watch, yet they are blind to how inherently evil islam is; beginning, but not ending with, muhammad: probably the worst criminal known to man.
Jerry says
Knowing that Islam is a counterfeit religion invented by fake “Prophet” more correctly referred to as The Plunderer for Profit – (PBUH = P.ss Be Upon Him) there is also the possibility that the watch is simply a counterfeit “Rolex”.
About the title “Calliph” I first thought “Calb” (Dog) would be more appropriate, but then it dawned on me that such comparison would be unjustly disrespectful to my dogs.

Last night Rachel Maddow was absurdly prefacing this story with one about a high-ranking Russian Orthodox cleric who was rather embarrassingly photographed wearing an expensive watch.
Of course, this is just stupid. While one might legitimately criticize a Christian cleric for wearing such “bling”, somehow believing that a mass-murdering Muslim war lord should be similarly humble is just ridiculous.
And more: whatever the appropriateness—or lack of same—of a Russian Orthodox cleric wearing such a watch, it is most likely that he either purchased the watch or received it as a gift.
It is, to put it mildly, *highly unlikely* that he either bought it with “booty” seized from his victims, or just stole it outright as part of that booty—but this is probably how Al-Bagdadi got *his* piece.
