LAGOS, Nigeria — A Nigerian atheist released from the mental ward to which his Muslim family committed him by force said Thursday he is getting death threats for blaspheming against Islam.
Mubarak Bala, a 29-year-old chemical process engineer, said he is in hiding in predominantly Muslim northern Nigeria where Shariah law holds and some interpretations have blasphemy punishable by death.
What interpretation of Sharia does not have blasphemy punishable by death? There is no such. All the schools of Islamic jurisprudence teach the blasphemers should be killed.
“People are threatening me, I mean life-threatening threats,” he told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. He said he was too frightened of drawing attention and wouldn’t allow an AP video journalist or photographer to come to his hiding place.
Bala said that since he renounced Islam and declared himself an atheist, he has not only lost the trust of his father and elder brother, but many friends.

Bala’s father, Muhammad Bala, did not immediately respond to phone calls and text messages. In a blog, the father describes himself as a journalist and director general of Kano state’s Directorate of Societal Reorientation, one of the bodies that enforces Islamic Shariah law.
On Twitter, Bala has described his father as an Islamic leader who “can’t afford to have a non-Muslim family member, so he declared me insane.”

Actually, under Islamic law, being in a mental ward is being out of the woods: the one way out of the apostasy death sentence (to be carried out either by official authorities or by the people in a lynch mob) is to be considered mentally deficient. So this man’s family may have actually been trying to protect him by turning him in as “mentally insane”.

Islam’s system of ethnic cleansing is to make strategic, exemplary hits on leading thinkers and their followers chose to leave as well. With no opposition, Islamic tyrants can crush everyone else.

Mr Mubarak Bala is a brave man, to shuck off the Death Cult that has caused so much ruin and grief to so many Africans down through the centuries. By leaving Islam he has regained his humanity.
I hope he can get right away, and live free. My advice to him would be to head south as fast as he can, to the majority-Christian part of Nigeria, and then change his name. Shave and get an Afro hairdo or dreads. Find work with a non-Muslim company. And if he doesn’t know how already, learn to use a weapon, so that any Sharia assassins sent after him can be given a nasty surprise. And then he should devote at least part of his time to warning non-Muslim Nigerians about Islam; even if he just does it anonymously online.
