What? An Islamic state wouldn’t respect all religions? Is Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono some kind of Islamophobe, willfully misunderstanding the Religion of Tolerance?
“Indonesian president says Islamic State ’embarrassing’ Muslims,” AFP, August 21, 2014:
The president of the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country, Indonesia, on Thursday called the actions of Islamic State militants “embarrassing” to the religion and urged Islamic leaders to unite in tackling extremism.
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the scale of the slaughter wrought by the extremists in overrunning large swathes of Iraq and Syria and the level of violence being used was appalling.
“It is shocking. It is becoming out of control,” he said in an interview with The Australian, a day after IS released a video showing a masked militant beheading US reporter James Foley, provoking worldwide revulsion.
“We do not tolerate it, we forbid ISIS in Indonesia,” he added, referring to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, as IS was formerly known.
“Indonesia is not an Islamic state. We respect all religions.”
He urged international leaders to work together to combat radicalisation.
“This is a new wake-up call to international leaders all over the world, including Islamic leaders,” he said, adding that the actions of IS were not only “embarrassing” to Islam but “humiliating“, the newspaper reported.
“All leaders must review how to combat extremism. Changing paradigms on both sides are needed — how the West perceives Islam and how Islam perceives the West.”
Indonesia is home to the world’s biggest Muslim population of about 225 million and has long struggled with terrorism. But a successful clampdown in recent years has seen the end of major deadly attacks.
Jakarta has estimated that dozens of Indonesians have travelled to Syria and Iraq to fight and Yudhoyono said he was concerned about their return, adding that he had tasked agencies to oppose the spread of extremist ideology in the sprawling nation.
“Our citizens here in Indonesia are picking up recruitment messages from ISIS containing extremist ideas,” said the president, whose decade in office comes to an end in October.
“The philosophy of ISIS stands against the fundamental values we embrace in Indonesia. Last Friday, in my state of the union address to the nation, I called on all Indonesians to reject ISIS and to stop the spread of its radical ideology.
“My government and security agencies have taken decisive steps to curtail the spread of ISIS in Indonesia, including by prohibiting Indonesians to join ISIS or to fight for ISIS, and also by blocking Internet sites that promote this idea.”…

The president of Indonesia is a liar. Many Christians have been prevented from worshiping in their churches because they are denied permits, (corruption money required) or their churches are burned down by angry Muslim neighbors. Google Besaki and burned churches you will get the real story about how people with differing beliefs or no belief in God are treated in Indonesia. If you aren’t a member of the 5 APPROVED religions in Indonesia, you won’t receive a birth certificate. Therefore, you don’t exist, you don’t get an education, you can’t buy property, open a bank account, you can’t marry . Your religious belief is printed on your driver’s license or ID, so it becomes everyone’s business.
They will not allow Jews in Indonesia and they ask to see your passport to see if you have been to Israel. They deny that Israel exists.
In Aceh, a sharia compliant area in Indonesia, everyone has to follow the Islamic laws where recently they arrested a widow who had been raped by several men and a boy after they peeped through her windows to see her having sex with a man that was not her husband. She was arrested for adultery and will receive lashes for her sins. The rapists are considered heroes. In Aceh they arrest women who are socializing with unrelated men, those who wear tight pants and t-shirts, and those who sit astride a motorcycle, because it arouses the men.

It sounds like the President of Indonesia will be a big supporter of the soon coming ‘Ecumenical One-World Religion’ – of course all/nearly all of the ‘Heads of State’ worldwide are on the same ‘band wagon’ – headed straight for Hell.
Biblical CHRISTians – we are reminded to:
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

It would take a miracle to convince Muslims to join the Christian faith.
Why?
Because there are to many differences in those two ideologies. One is tolerant the other is never tolerant. One is kind and forgiving to all people. The other is never kind or forgiving to ward any other faith or ideology. One excepts redemption and repentance. The other never does either of those things. Other ideology’s have some sort of golden rule. Islam has no such rule, and in fact thinks other religions are evil, born of Satan, and worship’s the Devil. Islam seriously believes they are the only ideology blessed by Allah and Muhammad is alone their only prophet.
Need I go on? The final difference is that while Islam claims to be the ‘religion of peace’. It’s clear that they are no such thing. They never have been and probably never will be the religion of peace. Which also means it is the Trojan Horse of faiths. While is calls for hatred and savagery. Other religions call for brotherhood and lasting peace.
It has been this way since Muhammad came from Medina and conquered Mecca, early on in their beginning. It all in the history books. But America and other nations are not interested enough to do the research. So the kafirs and their places of worship continue to be slaughtered and knocked down forever. Which is also being recorded. But people are just not interested in knowing the truth.
And so who’s fault is this slaughter of friends, family, and neighbors?

Another difference is that Islam teaches that the doctrine of the divinity of Jesus is not only an error, but is a capital crime, meriting the death penalty.

Most Indonesians are islamophobes including most moslems. Proof? Islam based parties consistently loose elections against secular nationalistic parties. Why is Aceh a sharia state? The GAM was fighting for an independent Aceh and then after the tsunami literally drownded the fighting spirit off rebels and army and were willing to make peace, the government supported the Islamists to keep GAM at bay, who had not been fighting for an Islamic state. So religion (again) was used as a bargaining chip. Suharto started it when he began to loose power. Go on a hajj and mass murder and massive corruption is forgiven. But to prove he was a good muslim he had to throw the Christians to the lions. And since most muslims are islamophobes, who dares to go against the thread? When the council of ulema declared liberal islam agains islam, mobs threatened to attack the Liberal Islam Network office in Jakarta. Better to play it safe. It is a little bit like the fear of being called racist that in the west allows a minority to intellectually terrorize a majority.

I’m an Indonesian, this is just another standard “We’re not with radicals because they’re giving us a bad name” kind of statement. Religion is always a big issue here in Indonesia especially if you’re not a muslim. Many Christian officials are under heavy scrutiny by muslim groups, also muslim officials have been modifying laws to give Islam advantages over other religions.
There have been less Islamic terrorism in recent years but lets not forget that the national police was founded by Indonesian Christians, so naturally it would fight terrorism without hesitation. I don’t know about blocking ISIS sites, but I know that the government blocked many sites that tell the truth about Islam and its lies and brutality.
Oh don’t get me started about the media. ALL HAIL ISLAM. It’s like they’re all collaborating to instill the thought that Islam can do no wrong. Everything is deflected by the same lame excuses: “they’re radicals”, “that’s not Islam”, “Islam is peace”, “you misunderstood Islam”. Also just like Robert said, there’s no discussion about the evil verses in Quran.

Whether Indonesia has the world’s biggest Muslim population is debatable. While religion must be designated on a citizen’s identity card, most nominate Muslim for expediency, even Christians who transmigrated from East Timor or the Flores. Under the doctrine of Pancasila, to be an atheist is to be a communist. While there is a definite and growing Islamist presence in Indonesia, most Javanese still practice pre- Islamic, Hindu and Javanese animist rituals. I have met several Javanese who claim to be partly Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Muslim. Islam came to south east Asia by stealth and the vast majority of it’s citizenry still know little about Islam or its violent history .

[” Extreme violence and persecution against Christians in Indonesia has taken a new dramatic turn at the weekend as three Christian school girls were barbarically beheaded by masked attackers.
|TOP|The shocking news has stunned the region, and is the latest in a long line of religious attacks in the country.
The three girls were attending a private Christian school in the highly tense province of Central Sulawesi. The three were attacked by unidentified assailants, and a fourth girl was left seriously wounded.
Police in the region commented that sickeningly one of the girl’s heads was taken and placed by the attackers in front of a new Christian church, and the other two taken and placed outside the police station.
Latest reports have indicated that the country is significantly increasing the police presence in the region following the attack, in which the girls were killed with machetes as they walked to school near Poso.
According to ABC News, about 200 police and 600 military soldiers have been dispatched to the town to ease escalating tensions.
Police have reported that the attacks appear to be aimed at inciting religious unrest, and gave a stern warning that they are expecting further unrest to follow.
Religious clashes between Christians and Muslims in Poso have killed more than 2,000 people since 1998, according to ABC News, and the Indonesian police chief, General Sutanto has called desperately on the leaders of the religions to calm their two communities, as fears over a backlash increase with the Mislim religious holiday of Eid al-Fitr coming up.” ]

Also, pace “sinantara”‘s seemingly clever whitewash of Indonesia above, there have been indications of the rather widespread popularity among Indonesians of the terrorist mastermind of the Bali attacks and founder of the Jemaah Islamiyya in Indonesia, Abu Bark Bashir.
Also, what’s up with the lenient treatment of not only Bashir, but of so many of the terrorists involved in that (with plots to do a Mumbai-style massacre in Jakarta)?
All 36 Indonesian terrorists who were sentenced to anything less than life for their parts in the 2002 and 2005 bar and restaurant attacks, which killed a further 130 victims, are now free.
And up to 100 more terrorists convicted for other attacks on local and western interests in Indonesia will be freed in the coming year, according to a leading expert.

And, to adduce one datum from thousands one could likely pluck from a blangkon of data about the normative extremism of Indonesians, here’s this juicy pepes from a 2003 report:
Ali Achmad, a teacher at a pesantren (school) in Jakarta, made this preposterously inflammatory statement, revealing himself to be part of the problem, not the solution:
“America has revealed that it hates Islam and it’s trying to take control of Indonesia through making stuff up about terrorism.”

This is what you get from all Muslim “opponents” of ISIS. It all makes sense once you understand that the highest value in Islam is not God, or truth, or love, or justice—the highest value in Islam is the supremacy of Islam itself. And that’s why these “moderate” Muslims speak out against ISIS—because they perceive that it’s harming Islam. They don’t have any concept that killing innocent people is wrong and immoral—but only that non-Muslims will form a negative opinion of Islam because of these actions. And this also explains why their supposed outrage against ISIS is always expressed to non-Muslims instead of to their fellow Muslims who are actually committing these atrocities. The “moderate” Muslims know that ISIS members are already Muslims—so there’s no real need to actually fight against them. The important target is the non-Muslim, because it’s necessary to either convert or subjugate them in order for Islam to triumph. And that’s their only real gripe with the “extremists”—that they may be taking a less efficient route towards their common goal of ensuring the supremacy of Islam.
Terry says
“They don’t have any concept that killing innocent people is wrong and immoral—but only that non-Muslims will form a negative opinion of Islam because of these actions.”
Very well said and that’s exactly it!
voegelinian says
Well, they should know by now that the West is so blinkered, it’s doing most of the propaganda whitewashing leg work itself. The “this has nothing to do with Islam” meme is most strenuously and most pervasively promoted in the West by non-Muslims! The Muslim Islamopologists who do it are just adding extra nudges to a machine already humming along quite efficiently.
Indeed, that machine’s performance is so perverse, it kicks into higher gear the more that Muslims perpetrate atrocities and/or purvey extremist rhetoric. There is a logic to this madness: Westerners who have the PC MC neurosis (unfortunately, that continues to be the majority of Westerners) are more anxious and worried about Autophobia (fear of themselves becoming “bigoted” and going down a slippery slope toward “hatred” which will inexorably career into genocide) than they are about the outrageous human rights violations and deadly geopolitics of “Islamism”. Because of this Autophobic anxiety, then, the West becomes more defensive of Islam, not less, the more that Muslims do horrible things — because the Autophobic Westerner knows, deep down in his stifled censored conscience, that Islam is a horrific deadly danger, and each fresh Islamic atrocity only prods his unconscious dread the more — and so he has to redouble his Denial that much more to repress it.
voegelinian says
And, as I pointed out in another thread recently, this autophobic anxiety of the PC MC sometimes may be found in the asymptotic Counter-Jihad individual who otherwise trumpets and brags about his anti-Islam cred — indeed, such types seem to be even more jingoistic and saber-rattling against Muslims than people like me who advocate tougher measures (such as total deportation); and that seeming paradox is also part of the logic of this autophobia joined at the hip (deep down in tendons so deep they are below the threshold of the consciousness) with their growing and otherwise rational alarm at Islam: the heightened saber-rattling reflects a deflection of the pressure of the cognitive dissonance, just as sometimes their hostility at fellow Counter-Jihad individuals like me reflects their need to lash out and project their fears & frustrations at an external reminder (i.e., moi) of what their semi-conscious dreads and is trying to continually repress in their minds.

I agree. Most Muslims know next to nothing about the violent side of Islam. ISIL is indeed embarrasing Muslims, and THAT is good.
Sooner or later Muslims will have to confront their own beliefs, ask questions, and demand convincing answers from their scholars.
