Islamic State gives Iraqi Christians one week to convert, pay jizya or die

That tax is Qur’anic: “Fight those who believe not in God nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by God and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” (Qur’an 9:29)

Islamic militant terrorists ISIS is giving non-muslims in Iraq three options: leave, convert or die.

A WorldWatch Monitor report tells the personal account of Iraqi Christian Mikha Qasha.

In August, WWM reported that Qasha, an elderly paralytic, was moved from his home in Qaraqosh after ISIS members threatened him with weapons giving him one week to leave, convert to Islam or “face the sword.”

Qasha eventually found his grandson and was taken to Ankawa, Iraq, the predominantly Christian suburb in the province of Erbil.

ISIS has reportedly been giving the ultimatum since the group took over Mosul, the capital of the Nineveh providence in northern Iraq, in June.

The group also threatened to impose a “special tax” on Iraqi Christians. Thousands of Christians left Mosul in July after the group gave the ultimatum saying that if they did [not] comply there would be ‘nothing for them but the sword.”

Of the 3,500 Christians living in Mosul, WWM reports that about 25 of them decided to remain in Mosul. Since then, nine have converted to Islam and the others are paying an Islamic tax for non-muslims called jizya.

Later on, ISIS demanded an immediate decision by the small group of Iraqi Christians, and they are now giving all non-muslims one week to decide.

The United Nations launched a major aid operation Aug. 20 providing tents and other goods to Erbil via land, air and sea.

Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, told WWM that Christian persecution in Iraq is “off the scale.”

Welby said that the members of the terrorist group are “particularly savage” and “the international community must document the human rights abuses in northern Iraq so that the perpetrators can later be prosecuted.”

Some non-muslim refugees have found refuge in an Ankawa refugee camp.

WWM reports that a group of church workers are currently helping more than 360 families staying in Erbil. Of the families, 216 live in the church’s courtyard. The group serves breakfast, lunch and dinner to more than a thousand people every day.

    • And there a few Biblically sound Pastors and Teachers that have the understanding that the Persecution of CHRISTians and JEWS could begin here in ‘Amerika’ – and other westernized countries – at ANY TIME – and VERY SUDDENLY!

      As a country, ‘Amerika’ has turned our backs upon “the Lord God Almighty” and His ‘chosen people’ – the JEWS, and the eternally “promised land” of ISRAEL – and “the LORD JEHOVAH” does not force Himself upon anyone – or country.

      CHRISTians – We need to put on – and keep on the “whole armor of God”

      and pray often, with great sincerity, effectually and fervently, and in real humility for the protection of “the Lord God Almighty”
      – for all CHRISTians – in the MID-EAST, and wherever else we live
      (the ‘Big Satan’ of the Mohammadens)

      – for all of the JEWISH people and the land of ISRAEL
      (the ‘Little Satan’ of the Mohammadens)

      – and for MANY LOST people everywhere to accept the “free gift” of Biblical Salvation!!!

  4. These headlines, in particular, make me feel so helpless because these Christians will probably end up dead at the hands of these *islamic* savages. Sort of like watching an out-of-control train that can’t be stopped–derail, and divide a town–killing hundreds in its path. Who, if anyone, will save these Christians from IS? Anyone else feel like I do? So sad …

    • @ Champ – Have you ever thought of the absolutely wondrous Grace of “the Lord God Almighty” – that those that are martyred will be rewarded with a crown – for all eternity – because of their faithfulness!

    • Yes. And praying daily and over and over for God’s Kingdom to come and for Him to do His will here on earth.
      2 Thess. 1:7 -8 keeps me going when i read of things like this or just think of them happening all around the earth. And of things we never know about, but may suspect are happening.
      But it is hard to wait.

        • I’m glad. We are told to comfort and encourage one another. After all, Jehovah is the “God of all comfort (2 Cor. 1:3-4) and it is the least we can do for one another while we wait and pray for Jesus to come with His angels.

        • Dear Champ. Do not become despondent. Remember that ultimately, Almighty God is in control; and that Jesus promised us: “I am with you, even unto the end of the world.”

          I have faith in His promise, as I know you do. Yes, it is heart-rending to see innocent people viciously murdered for Satan; but as Bro. Nick said above: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

          God always uses evil and turns it to good. That is His way. (And it pisses Satan off no end! It’s like rubbing the foul one’s nose in it.) Remember too that the murder of Jesus Christ was the worst evil the world has ever known – and look what Almighty God brought forth from it: the possibility of Salvation for those of us who will embrace Christ’s free offer of Salvation. Be of good cheer Champ.

      those Christians who may end up dead at the hands of barbarous adherents to Muhammad (lately contrived; full of lusts) have life through faith in Christ. [ESV,Jn11:26 ” … everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die..”] Theirs shall be blessings after blessing, everlasting.

      instead, [ESV,Heb. 1:2 “… in these last days …”] remember that Jesus said: [Mt. 10:34b “… I have not come to bring peace (to the earth) but a sword …”]. that sword is still cutting. you know that sword as the Word. by the Word is true peace bestowed.

      while many shall endure loss, Christians grieve – especially – for those who are lost (to interpret a beatitude).

      the lost are certainly angry, judging by the actions of these adherents who are wrongly guided by the ignoble SHARIA. the Allah god if Islam (unknowable; the best of all deceivers) is so pleased that its slaves are adept at bringing chaos. it does not disclose that it cannot bring peace which is not of this world.

      that peace the resurrected Christ bestows. it is peace with the Unique God, in whom Abraham believed.

      judging from your many entries, you are known by Him, you are His. strive to bring that peace wherever your are.

      I know how you feel. I don’t have the answers for all these terrible situations. But I do know that keeping the big picture in mind helps. I often read the entire book of Revelation in one sitting. I don’t pretend to understand all the specifics, but I do know this.

      Christ will triumph. This evil – and ALL the evils of this earth – will be defeated one day. And every day we live as followers of Christ, we draw one day closer to that most glorious Day.

      Hang on to that!

      • Hi Mo ..yes, Amen to that! Jesus promised to come again and make everything *right*, and like you, I trust in His promise. Many of us make promises and fail to keep them (including myself), but this is one promise I wholly trust that Jesus will keep. Thank you for writing, my friend 🙂 xo

        • @ Champ – I most sincerely pray to “the Lord God Almighty” that it really is a help to you – and that others will also read it – and that more and yet more will come to the understanding, belief and following of that which “the truth” of “the words of the LORD” really mean – not the ‘silly sloppy agape christianity’ that is so often taught – and believed.
          Bro. Paul Hattaway is NOT an ‘armchair christian’ – he goes into areas where there is real Persecution of our CHRISTian Brothers and Sisters.

          Real Christianity is simple – but it is not easy! For the ways of

  9. Sweden alone, is taking in 100,000 Muslim economic migrants, under the guise of “refugees” EVERY year, but it seems European Christians can´t find a home for 3,500 Middle Eastern Christian refugees.
    Lets not lose any sleep over all those Christians who are being raped, beheaded and sold off as sex slaves. We need to prioritise finding homes for all our peace loving Muslim brothers, who are in desperate need of Christian protection.

    • Thanks for the link to that article by Douglas Murray. He is one of the few Brits in public life who address the problems civilisation faces in its confrontation with the barbarians who are determined to destroy it.

      The only sad thing is to read the comments on that link, which must make Murray’s heart sink if he imagines that they are typical of the mindset of his readers. Pearls before swine. The big problem is the apathy of the inheritors of all the benefits of civilisation whose best values are the vestigial remains of Christian morality.

    I too feel grieved as a Christian that these people will beheaded, yes I know they will receive a real reward by Jesus himself, I understand that, but also I am angry that so many so called Christians and Church leaders won’t do anything, I am a very firm believer in also strong military action must be taken against these vile detestable people , like a cancer they must be eradicated by taking their life from them and sent to a hell of eternal fire. In actual fact, we need both in the west, prayer and physical action . King David did both, the Jews need our prayers and support.
