This witless moral equivalence is common among Leftists, and demonstrates that they have no idea what life in the Islamic State is really like, or what kind of threat it poses to the U.S. Backtracking after his initial tweet, Smith explained: “I am not saying that the Republican Party is beheading people in the streets, obviously. Here in America, because we are a civilized democracy, we do not use violence against each other as a means of control. The Republicans have used the economy as a means to terrorize the people of this country.”
Keep digging, Smith. The idea that anything the Republicans have done in any way comes anywhere close to the terror that the Islamic State perpetrates on a daily basis should have gotten you a one-way ticket out of this Congressional race — if this were a society that still valued truth over cant and political grandstanding.
“Democratic candidate compares GOP to Islamic State,” by Jessica Chasmar, The Washington Times, September 2, 2014
A Democratic candidate running against Alabama Rep. Mike Rogers shocked Twitter users Monday when he compared Republicans in Congress to Islamic State militants.
J.T. Smith, of Phenix City, is the Democratic nominee to represent Alabama’s District 3, The Birmingham News reported.
“The greatest country on earth is being bullied from within. Actions of Republicans in congress are worse than #ISIL,” he tweeted on Labor Day to more than 3,000 followers.
The tweet was still active as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Islamic State group, formerly the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), made headlines again Tuesday for a video that purported to show the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff, just weeks after it released confirmed footage of the beheading of U.S. photojournalist James Foley.
Mr. Smith, an Iraq War veteran who faces Rep. Mike Rogers in November, later took to Facebook to explain his tweet.
“Twitter does not allow for context, but this does,” he said. “I am not saying that the Republican Party is beheading people in the streets, obviously. Here in America, because we are a civilized democracy, we do not use violence against each other as a means of control. The Republicans have used the economy as a means to terrorize the people of this country.”

Don’t know what GOP actions the House has seen implemented that might be causing this bro to have his case of the vapors.
Anything meaningful that the House has voted in favor of that would move the economy forward has been utterly stymied by the DEMOCRAT Senate, either by being voted down or more commonly never ever been allowed to come to the floor by Reid.
Another clueless low information voter, though this one is a little bit worse because he wants to get into Congress to join the other LIVs of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Fortunately this bro has little chance,

Sad to see an Iraqi veteran succumb to the democrat mantra. Undoubtedly he’s witnessed his fellow soldiers maimed or killed while serving in Iraq, and to make such a statement not only shows his progressive understanding to paint anything GOP as a terrorist this or that as a means to win votes only shows just how vast the divide in this country truly is. All one can hope for is that he is thoroughly trounced at the polls.

“The Lord Jesus Christ”, all of the writers of the Epistles, and several of the Jewish Prophets of the Old Testament wrote much more about the coming ‘spiritual deception’ by “false teachers”, “false prophets”, ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’ – than they did of the physical manifestations.
My understanding from reading and studying the Holy Bible is that we are living in the ‘end-of-the-end time’ when ‘spiritual deception will increase greatly, which is shortly before “the day of the LORD”, “the time of Jacob’s trouble”, the “great tribulation”.
Unfortunately, such statements have been – and are being made – very commonly by numerous politicians and ‘burro-crats’ from all political parties here in ‘Amerika’
– BUT – ‘We the people’ always need to remember that we elect such people into office:
1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
(Prov 29:1-2 – KJV)
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 SPEAKING LIES IN HYPOCRISY; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Many years ago I noticed people on the Left use the language of war for their domestic political opposition but diplomacy and psychotherapy for those who would kill them. Leftists stubbornly believe there are no real implacable enemies (save conservatives or Republicans), just friends who have been insufficiently appeased.
Both Foley and Satloff were left-leaning guys very concerned about Islamophobia. Both loved the Middle East and Satloff spoke Arabic. Clearly then, they were perfectly oriented to avoid trouble with the IS. Were.

Not possible. The left are tone deaf when it comes to others’ opinions/ideas. If it is not “Cuhmbaya” it is silence. The left will undoubtedly point to Sotloff & Foley as being mainstream journalist Martyrs which where “just misunderstood” by the those fighting for freedom from Assad’s demonic regime.

What a coincidence you should say that please read my comment below.
All the same, I would like to find a way to burst their Inter-Faith bubble with reality.

I agree; some months ago, James taranto, who writes a blog for the Wall Street Journal (Best of the Web), had an article (or more accurately, parts of one)-from a (I beleive) psychologist-who studied conservatives and the (il)liberal liberals.
The conservativrs WERE WILLING TO LSITEN to the opposition points, and possibly see some light/understanding, and a willingness to work .
Lefties could not see anything and were unbending.
There was more, but that was the basis.
Might want to contact him fir the article.
Jay Boo says
A few weeks back, I had a conversation with someone who is hip-deep into Inter-faith coexistence outreach.
As best as I can determine, he got involved with a Christian based community outreach charity that was serving people with serious financial needs such as homeless. This also includes prison ministry and ex-felons.
No problem so far, but the outreach naturally has come in contact with people from various backgrounds and no wanting to turn people away has turned to accept the Inter-Faith moniker.
The problem is that ‘Inter-Faith’ implies a false belief that Muslims will respect other faiths as well.
I brought up the topic about the Yazidis were being butchered in Iraq.
His reply was an indignant “Why don’t they just leave Iraq?”
When I pressed the issue , I discovered that this was the opinion being hurled at him by ‘some of his inter-faith group’.
The Left and Inter-Faith do-gooders would rather blame the victims of Muslim aggression than risk upsetting Muslims by telling Muslims the truth.
Bro. Nick says
Inter-faith = the extremely liberal ‘Ecumenical Christendom’ – which includes Mohammadenism, ‘ChriSlam’ & Athiesism – and is being led by ‘the pope’ of Roman Catholicism
– which will eventually become the ‘One-World church’ of the ever closer ‘One-World’ governance.
– and there are only a few – a remnant – of real CHRISTians that have “an heart to perceive”, “ears to hear”, and “eyes to see” – that are aware of the incredible danger we are in – TODAY – RIGHT NOW !!!
“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.”
(Luke 17:26-29 – KJV)
———–
The absolute truth and reality of “the words of the LORD” should be very clear:
“The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.”
(Ps 12:8 – KJV)
Me thinks that the whole world is becoming ever more and more rapidly ‘as it was in the days of Noah and of Lot’ – TODAY – RIGHT NOW!
Jay Boo says
Bro. Nick you said
“Inter-faith = the extremely liberal ‘Ecumenical Christendom’ – which includes Mohammadenism, ‘ChriSlam’ & Athiesism – and is being led by ‘the pope’ of Roman Catholicism”
Pope Francis is part of the problem, but I suspect you give him a bit too much credit for leading Mohammadenism, ‘ChriSlam’ & Athiesism.
Even conservative pro-Israel John Haggee has Issues like denying Jesus as Messiah in order to sell more books.
Bro. Nick says
@ Jay Boo – I have read several valid articles and reports to support my comment. I try quite hard to not make idle comments.
‘the pope’ is working very hard as the self-declared leader of ‘Apostate Ecumenical Christendom’ – and has directly reached out to –
a] the Mohammadens – there was a reading of the Qur’an by their clerics – who were invited and attended by him in the Vatican. He was also seen kissing their ‘holy book’ – the Qur’an.
b] several advances have been made toward those that support ‘ChriSlam’
c] there was a statement made by ‘the pope’ that atheists could ‘be saved’ if they ‘were good enough’
You commented about John Haggee – my understanding is that he is indeed one of the “false teachers” in these ‘end-of-the-end times’ in which we are living.
PLEASE – do check out what I have to say – for I am indeed a fallible man!
Jay Boo says
I agree the current Pope has serious issues as does Obama, Rick Warren Chrislam and many other interfaith goblins including a mega church pastor in Florida who is standing against anti-Sharia laws.
If only it was just Pope Francis.
Bro. Nick says
@ Jay Boo –
The extremely liberal anti-Fundamental CHRISTianity of
‘ Ecumenical Christendom’ = ‘the pope’ + ‘Rev Warren’ + ‘Rev Osteen’ + ‘Rev Copeland’ + PC-USA + Mohammedenism + ChriSlam + . . . .

Based on their rhetoric, the last time the Left faced an existential threat it was from Sen. Joe McCarthy. He is used as the sine qua non of evil by leftists and professors (but I repeat myself) everywhere.

I agree, AND THE LEFTIES ALSO HAVE A GREAT MEMORY (OR LACK THEREOF) WHEN IT SERVES THEIRN PURPOSE(S).
One of his top two attorneys ( I forgot the name of the other one-was Jewish and from New York City-my father knew him, slightly) but the other was—NONE OTHER–DRUM ROLL PLEASE.
ROBERT F. KENNEDY
Son of Joseph P Kennedy, (in my view, a horrid person); brother of John F. Kennedy (who won the 1960 election the way Obama won-with the dead voting for him); and later ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE US (and killed by a Muslim).
That is conviently left off by liberals when complaining about “Mc Carthyism”. But they (lefties) use worse tactics. And, Mc carthy told the truth.

Exactly, Beagle. Worthy of mention, too, is J Christopher Stevens, late U.S. ambassador to Libya via California and the Peace Corps, killed in Benghazi as he did his utmost to aid those who would destroy us – if you accept (and I do) that the mission in Benghazi was all about getting guns through Turkey to Free Syria Army. Stevens’s efforts were appreciated and rewarded by jihadists in the customary way…although I believe Stevens retained his head, unlike poor Foley and Setloff, who lost theirs in recent days.

This “thinking” by an American Democrat and liberal is not at all unusual. In bastions of liberalism in America, for instance the Isle of Fools (also known as Manhattan), Republicans are looked upon by liberals as horrible people, as just terrible, bigoted, racist, selfish and insensitive human beings who deserve nothing but contempt.
This mindless antipathy towards American conservatives is so deep in Liberalland that many liberals are even ready to give up constitutional and legal guarantees as long as conservatives can be hurt in some way. For instance, not long after the IRS scandal broke, whereby the IRS clearly targeted conservative groups aplenty for tax purposes, thus violating the most basic laws that the IRS is mandated to follow, many students interviewed at the University of Colorado were fine with that, saying that this was a good thing since conservatives (especially those nasty Tea Party people) deserve to be targeted by the IRS, even though such targeting erodes basic constitutional principles and much statutory law and thus sets a terrible precedent that could end up harming all of America. Yes, the hatred, mindless and stupid though it is, runs this deep among many American liberals.

Bezelel, it’s absolutely preposterous that these guys are claiming that both the Ferguson police and Republicans in congress are “worse than” IS! Yeah sure they are. What a bald-faced lie. And imo, Smith has lost all credibility with that absurd statement, but of course some will actually agree with this lie. Stranger things have happened, though. Like islam being called a “religion of peace”. Again, yeah sure it is …uh, NO it isn’t!

………………………
My God, what moral idiocy.
This is like Leftists labeling every conservative a “Nazi”—perhaps even worse, though, since the example of ISIL is in everyone’s face right now.
I don’t think J.T. Smith and his ilk are doing anything good for America—but I would never cavalierly accuse him of being “worse than ISIL”, and I doubt many of his Republican rivals would, either.
