Islamic State jihadis advance in Syria despite US strikes

Sep 24, 2014 10:56 pm By Robert Spencer

Boys inspect a vehicle which was damaged in what activists say was one of Tuesday's U.S. air strikes in Kfredrian, Idlib provinceThe airstrikes are meant to save Obama’s poll ratings, and the Democrats’ prospects in November. They are not meant to do any serious damage to the Islamic State, and they are not doing any.

“Islamist fighters advance in Syria despite U.S. strikes,” by Kinda Makieh and Jonny Hogg, Reuters, September 24, 2014:

(Reuters) – U.S. and coalition planes pounded Islamic State positions in Syria again on Wednesday, but the strikes did not halt the fighters’ advance in a Kurdish area where fleeing refugees told of villages burnt and captives beheaded….

The U.S. military confirmed it had struck inside Syria northwest of al Qaim, the Iraqi town at the Albu Kamal border crossing. It also struck inside Iraq west of Baghdad and near the Iraqi Kurdish capital Arbil on Wednesday.

An Islamist fighter in the Albu Kamal area reached by phone said there had been at least nine strikes on Wednesday by “crusader forces.” Targets included an industrial area….

Even as Islamic State outposts elsewhere have been struck, the fighters have accelerated their campaign to capture Kobani, a Kurdish city on the border with Turkey. Nearly 140,000 Syrian Kurds have fled into Turkey since last week, the fastest exodus of the entire three-year civil war.

An Islamic State source, speaking to Reuters via online messaging, said the group had taken several villages to the west of Kobani. Footage posted on YouTube appeared to show Islamic State fighters using weapons including artillery as they battled Kurdish forces near Kobani. The Islamists were shown raising the group’s black flag after tearing down a Kurdish one….

A photo of a lost little child. Some of us pray for the fulfillment of the verse, “He is making wars to cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two. He burns the chariots in the fire (Psalm 46:9).”

If as a child he is made by adults to commit murder or other crimes, or if he grows old enough to make those decisions on his own, then he may well be as you said.
At the moment, in the photo, he is a *lost* child…lost to the depravity of those killing for killing’s sake, the lust for blood and he may well be dead by now. Children have the right to a chance for a good life, whoever their parents are. This child has no chance at all.

          @ Somehistory

You are correct , I feel for this child, while browsing YT about ISIS last night I came across a ISIS child of 12 years of age who was using a Dragunov 7.62×54 sniper rifle ,he had scope, he had already killed 4 Syrian soldiers, he said he ” felt nothing ” , he was already an accomplished sniper!, he said he was avenging his father ISIS who was killed by the Syrian army, so of course he was taking revenge, thereby breeding the next generation of killers and the next after that, unless ISIS etc are stopped dead in their tracks by Western military forces, so if this child above lives, he will no doubt learn to kill and then be killed himself, very, very sad as a father of two great grown peaceful boys, I see this as horrific.

I found tonight this YT clip of a young man being beheaded, the young man is weeping and crying for his life, it churned by stomach watching this, this young man reminds me of my two sons, looks about the same age, I found this distressing to watch, there is only so much one can take of this before feeling both so angry and helpless , I find the western media and clueless politicians are the worst sympathizers. They are undeserving of any loyalty on my part or vote, the clip should be viewed by all Islam loving pollies and their fellow travelers who proclaim Islam is peaceful, Islamics are free to be in my country and practice their horrible beliefs, but I cannot see how any sane, normal so called moderate Muslim with a modicum of brains can believe in this evil warped belief system, it defies intelligence that a rational human being can or will submit himself to this gabbling witless nonsense.

Here is the clip be warned CONTENT DISTURBING !

VERY GRAPHIC – Footage showing the brutal beheading of a civilian in Idlib – YouTube

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4COJBq74rYo

I am not easily offended or a sensitive person, but seeing this young begging produces a revulsion for ISIS and any other group that commits these barbarities.

Does Robert mean that Obama is avoiding doing serious damage to ISIL? If so, why? is it because Obama is avoiding doing serious damage to an…ally?

I stand by what I’ve already wrote on JW many times before:
ISIL is the creation of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Muslim Brotherhood are the real masters of the W.H.
Obama and his gang are merely their puppets.

That’s what I mean when I say: ISIL was created in and by the USA.
The airstrikes are nothing but a saving face strategy.

Without a doubt, it is to save face ahead of elections. Obama, Cameron and Hollande have let this go on for far too long, and now they’re acting at the 11th hour. Obama faces midterms in November and Cameron is just 220 days away from a General Election, and has been a byword for slapstick incompetence for the last four and a half years. As the Boer on Zulu might have said: “50 or so dead. That only leaves another 99,950 to go”.

This sounds much like conspiracy theory! I’m no admirer of Hussein but any and all air strikes are welcome; besides which how does Robert or anyone outside gov’t KNOW whether they are effective?

I believe all parties attacking ISIS are genuine in their aims to destroy it, until evidence to the contrary becomes known. Other opinions are just that, opinions…

The US military has the capacity to cripple isis in a matter weeks. It certainly is capable of degrading isis fighting ability in days. Destroying major supply routes/nodes, economic infrastructure (specifically those which generate revenues from oil), communications, utilities and transportation infrastructure would be sufficient to grind many isis operations to a stand still. If obama do to isis what clinton did to Serbs over kosovo , then his stated intentions would be more convincing.

perhaps he bought flowers and pot instead of munitions with the defense budget?

In any case, tomahawks and hellfire missile aren’t the only weaponry that could pulverize isis, the old paveway series of guided bombs are more than sufficient in knock out all useful infrastructure in isis land. The USAF and US Navy can turn the lights off, shut down fuel supply and terminate oil “export” with those bombs.

At Kobani the Turks are tightly controlling the border and are refusing to allow Turkish Kurds into Syria to help. Kurds are only allowed into Syria if they have Syrian I.D. and if they are UNARMED.

NATO gathers to discuss strategy against the IS. Turkey attends as a NATO member. Turkey supports and collaborates with IS, making a certainty that this ‘friend’ will pass on vital information to Allah’s latest band of thugs, thieves and murderers.

And the America-hating, white-hating, Jew-hating Muslim Socialist in the White House still hasn’t been charged with treason, or even impeached.

Without new munitions, ISIS will soon grind to a halt. How are they going to fight? With sticks and stones? They will run out of everything, ammo, first aid, food, clothing. They are visible in a treeless environment. They are tracked from satellites. Wahhabist countries are finally agreeing that Islam is the problem. The Arabs are now fighting against orthodox, pure Islam.

    • umbra says

Evidently, isis has taken plenty from syrian and iraqi armouries. If they do run low on ammo, there is always the black market with funds pouring (leaking) in from gulf states channelled through turkey. If all that fails, obama will airdrop weapons and munitions for them.

They are advancing not because the kuffar did not bomb them enough. You have a short memory. How many years the Kuffar have been bombing the Talibans? who won? who left the country in shame? You cannot defeat Muslims even if you call all your dogs: africans, arabs,…

You won’t take over the entire West. You will be stopped long before you hit that point. Like it or not, the West is slowly waking up to Islam and its brutal and medieval ways. If ISIS has done one good thing, it has been to wake us up, and let everyone know the sort of barbarity that awaits should we fall.

FDR?? You are kidding? Read the Diana West book. Now Truman? That is another deal altogether. THE USA did SFA until Pearl Harbour (as in WW1 when the worst was over)but it did make a lot of money . Sure they won the Pacific war and well (Thx to the USN mostly)although it took Australian blood to turn the tide but in Europe? The Red Army destroyed Hitler no matter how many TV programs they make about D Day. German casualties were 10x higher than the total allies for the war while in Stalingrad the Germans lost more than did the allies for the whole war. Soviet casualties in Stalingrad have NEVER been ascertained but could be as high as 3.5 million as they still dig up bones from the surrounding fields. FDR was a fool as his socialistic ideals made him trust Stalin.
