Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

Islamic State releases “chat show” style video starring British hostage John Cantlie

Sep 18, 2014 2:17 pm By Robert Spencer

John Cantlie is certainly correct that the Western media has an agenda and cannot be trusted. All too often, however, that agenda appears to be in the service of aiding the global jihad and Islamic supremacism by downplaying or ignoring the Islamic motivation and character of jihad atrocities, portraying Islamic supremacists in a favorable light, demonizing foes of jihad, etc. If he is a typical hard-Left mainstream media journalist, I suspect that John Cantlie didn’t find the filming of these jihad propaganda videos, with their whining about Western power and the poor, victimized Muslims, much of a stretch.

“BREAKING: ISIS Release ‘Chat-Show’ Style Video Starring British Hostage John Cantlie,” Breitbart, September 18, 2014:

John Cantlie, a key witness in the collapsed trial over jihadi-linked NHS doctor Shajul Islam, has appeared in an ISIS propaganda video, apparently showing him willingly discussing the faults of the West.

A new video released by ISIS this afternoon shows Cantile [sic], who was originally kidnapped in 2012, only be recused by Free Syrian Army fighters, admitted to being a prisoner at the hands of ISIS, though seemingly willingly spouted ISIS propaganda to camera whilst wearing a Guantanamo Bay style orange jump suit.

In the high quality, multi-camera video, Cantile [sic], who has been missing again for some years, claims that he will be illustrating for Western viewers why it is exactly that Western governments should refrain from attacking the Islamic State.

The former Sun, Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Times photojournalist says: “I know what you’re thinking… he’s got a gun at his head and he’s being forced to do this… that I cannot deny, but since I’ve been abandoned by my government… I have nothing to lose”.

“Maybe I will live and maybe I will die, but I want to… convey some facts that you can verify… that might help in preserving lives.

“Over the next few programmes I am going to show you the truth as the Western media tries to drag the public back to the abyss of another war with the Islamic State”.

Cantlie goes on:

“I’m going to show you the truth behind the systems and motivation of the Islamic State, and how the Western media, the very organisation I used to work for, can twist and manipulate that truth to the public back home. There are two sides to every story – think you’re getting the whole picture?”

Cantlie goes on to criticise the British and American government approach in refusing to negotiate with the Islamic State terrorists. He said European citizens were released while UK and US citizens were left behind….

I took the time to read a couple of his reports as a journalist. This report, for example, is a shameless piece of abject ignorance and witless disinformation, laying it on thick that the Syrian mujahideen — evil Mohammedans every bit as horrific as ISIS as we who have been reading JW over the years know — are essentially ordinary people driven by desperate circumstances into a freedom-fighting guerrilla struggle against the Big Bad Assad.

          http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/9177910/Syria-eyewitness-dispatch-I-watched-as-Assads-tanks-rolled-in-to-destroy-a-rebel-town.html

Or another John Cantlie story from 2012:

“After being smuggled into northern Syria by rebel activists, independent photojournalist John Cantlie captured the situation in Idlib province first hand. ”

I.e., the evil mujahideen smuggled him in so he could help their jihad propaganda — which as a Leftist, he was all too willing and disposed to do. That’s how these beheading victims are abducted: they go into hellish hot spots, trusting certain Muslims (guides, associates of the mujahideen, translators) who seem friendly and harmless — and it is those trusted Muslims (gullibly trusted by clueless Useful Idiots like Cantlie and Foley, et al.) who collude with the abductors and eventually transfer them to ISIS. Operation FT.

Yes, this is gut wrenching. We can’t imagine what these hostages are enduring physically, mentally or emotionally. Who can conceive of what’s done to these helpless victims by those sadistic monsters? The side of Cantlie’s face looks like it may have been burned with cigarettes.
Imagine – being far from loved ones, doubtful of any contact with them again – ever, basically alone, without one act of kindness, comfort or compassion during your torture while awaiting a horrendous death at the hands of despicable barbarians. Yes, I would break, while still desperately clinging for a miracle called – survival.

They did not kill the other British guy – they put this one out instead.

The Muslim charity has been pleading for the previous guy. He was in Syria for about an hour before he was captured for being a spy. Seems like they were waiting for him and simply took him.

These Isis are good. [They released a war movie trailer yesterday] Whatever John Cantlie believes – it must be agonizing, because he would no doubt want the UK gov. to pay his random.

He doesn’t look well or comfortable speaking.

Reporters have to go over there – but some people are just putting themselves in unnecessary danger. Let those Muslims guys deal with their charities – everyone else sticks out like a sore thumb.

Why not scream, THIS IS ISLAM! Why not refuse to read or say what they want you to say? They can’t make you say anything. They can’t move your lips for you and force your vocal cords to say those words.

And after seeing your fellow captives die, you know these demon possessed barbarians have ZERO mercy. You KNOW they’re not going to let you go no matter how much you grovel.

I know exactly what you mean, I always feel the same way about all of them. Maybe the first guy might have thought he might be spared but the subsequent victims were there witnessing it all themselves so they had no rational reason to comply. I think they were just elite lefties who have imbibed the self loathing attitudes of their own societies the whole of their lives they probably had no problem spouting the crap ISIS gave them, because it’s more or less the line they have always taken and it’s what made them land up on the chopping block in the first place.

They are relativists! There is no such thing as truth to them. Even if they thought they were going to save their necks by spouting their scripts they only induce further disrespect of their captors.

Easy to say I admit without being in the same situation, but the only thing that will change these people is when their minds are won over by a philosophy that is more powerful than the nothingness they perceive emanates from the decadent, squirming sheer groundlessness of western relativists. Say a Christian that prays for the very souls of his executioners and implores God to forgive them and lead them to truth. That might be a game changer. Unyil then Western liberals just sow the seed (and reap it now) of their own demise.

I can only hope some of these hostages make it out alive somehow and that we don’t have to hear of another beheading. ” Anyone in a life or death situation, held by heathens, outnumbered and tortured most likely, is going to do what they are told to do to stay alive”

Not so. The Christians in Syria who were told to give up their Christian faith, or die, chose to die. Some of them were tortured and raped.

Meriam Ibrahim refused to give up her Christian faith, on pain of death. She had to give birth to her daughter **chained** to the floor.

Other Christians, in islamic countries, are in prison for ‘blasphemy’; they too, have refused to recant.

And it is not only Christians who have refused to co-operate with torturers and murderers; there were plenty of Resistance fighters in the Second World War who refused to give in. Violette Szabo, the members of the White Rose movement, and many others.

”Some of the commentators on here are just as arrogant and foul as the jihadis, filled with hate fueled by the fire of what they are so certain they know is right”

What witless moral equivalence. **just as arrogant and foul** ? I sincerely doubt any one here would commit, or be a party to, the actions of the IS. In your opinion then, criticising Cantile is equivalent to sawing off his head, or torturing him ? You’re a fool.

Cantile had **already** been kidnapped in Syria, but escaped. He **chose** to go back, in fact, stated he was ”itching to”. While I am sorry for his position, he chose to court danger and a terrible death, not just once, but **twice**.

As for the commenters who have blamed him for doing the video, I agree with much of what they say. Yes, it is very easy, sitting in the comfort of my living room, to say he should have defied them, and if I were in his position, I don’t know what I would do; I **hope** I would have the courage to refuse to co-operate, because I know, as several people have pointed out, I would be murdered eventually, anyway.

Be that as it may, to reiterate; Cantile knew the dangers he was facing, and chose to do it anyway. I might applaud his courage for that, but not for co-operating with his eventual murderers.

DDA, excellent suggestion. I am reminded of a story about a prisoner in the First World War, who, forced to write a letter from prison camp, lauding the Germans, and describing how well he was being fed, and treated, wrote the Gaelic for ”all lies” between his Christian name and surname. His captors thought it was his full name. Also, if these journalists and aid workers insist on putting themselves in danger, perhaps they should be issued with suicide pills, in the event of their capture.

Mirren10…as you should know by now, I greatly respect your opinions and contributions here.

Cantile is a hostage, evidenced by the horrific orange jumpsuit. No doubt he is broken by torture and the beheadings of his fellow hostages. It is of my opinion that his words are hollow and his fear palpable. I have a very difficult time wrapping my mind around that he is a genuine sympathizer to ISIS and its objective given his plight.

I believe Cantile is doing all he can to save his head…perhaps for himself, perhaps for his family, perhaps even to expose the depths ISIS will go to as a warning to the public…you know…”check it out. Look at their new strategy. Using a hostage as a spokesperson for the cause.”

That is what I see. Cantile is desperately trying to save his ass, and may very well be perverting his own moral compass in doing so. Frankly, I don’t give much credence to statements made by hostages…the manipulation is crystal clear.

He clearly isn’t in a position to truly speak open and honestly.

And if he is beheaded…the world will know he was used as a piece of cheese in a mousetrap, and his murder will not be vain.

          Hi, Ashley.

”Cantile is a hostage, evidenced by the horrific orange jumpsuit.”

I don’t think anyone is disputing he is a hostage, are they ?

” No doubt he is broken by torture and the beheadings of his fellow hostages. It is of my opinion that his words are hollow and his fear palpable. I have a very difficult time wrapping my mind around that he is a genuine sympathizer to ISIS and its objective given his plight.”

Well, actually, if he was ”broken by torture”, I think we would be able to see some evidence of it. He doesn’t appear to me to be exhibiting any fear, although that, of course, is a subjective perception. Nevertheless, I agree with your final point; I certainly don’t think he is a genuine sympathiser with the IS, or its objectives, (nor did I suggest he was) and I agree that he is saying what he has been told to say.

The crux of my comment, was, however, that Cantlie **chose** to go to Syria for a second time, after being kidnapped and held hostage the first time, so he certainly wasn’t in ignorance of what might, and did, happen to him.

So my question would be, how much sympathy should one have for a person who deliberately and knowingly puts themselves in terrible danger, is indeed, *eager* to do so, and who is under no compelling necessity ?

That Usefully Idiotic activity of Cantlie’s (et al., e.g., Foley, Haines, et f.c.) reared up and bit him horrifically in the ass. And we, who are on the receiving end of this human rights catastrophe and global terror that Useful Idiots like Cantlie have been spending years enabling, are supposed to feel sorry for him?

To all those here who are bemoaning Mr. Cantile’s situation, I’m sorry too. I’m sorry he put himself in this situation, and all for nothing. If he tried to report/photograph the TRUTH, even if he escaped the muzlim zombie-vampires, chances are more than good that the Lame Scream Media would not even print or report on what he has to say.

If he was just there to play the role of the so-called “objective” reporter, most of whom are sympathetic to the muzlim-vampires anyway, he was doing the U.S. – or the world in general – no good.

Sorry. I cannot cry crocodile tears for journalists who go into areas where, if they had done their homework and NOT relied on the PC/MC garbage they were indoctrinated with, they should have known they were in grave danger of being kidnapped by the so-called “rebels”.

I think Cantile’s chances would have been much better had he allied himself with Assad. But oh, we can’t do that can we? OBummer and his ilk are all for ousting Assad and turning Syria – a country that does not have a national bank “syndicate” that is in line with most of the nations globally – into yet another failed pislamic state, as has been done throughout the so-called “Arab Spring”.

Yes; and not only kidnapped by rebels, but the abductions are so successful because the rebels use Muslims whom the PC MCs (and/or Leftists) in their infinitely vapid naivete find trustworthy (guides, translators, the teenage (or younger) kid who seems friendly enough, perhaps a local policeman or even journalist). And how do the rebels find such Muslims willing to collude with them? Do I even have to ask that question of the seasoned Jihad Watchers? (Well, sometimes I wonder…)

He speaks with conviction, he expresses and emotes. He is not just reading from a teleprompter. He may be a prisoner but he hates his govt worse than those who may behead him. Personally i doubt he gets beheaded anytime soon he is most convincing and will be very useful.

Any non-Muslim journalist, soldier, politician or aid worker who goes into a context where it is even *possible* that they might get kidnapped by mohammedans – and let’s face it, ordinary Aussie infidels – grannies, young mums, teenage schoolkids or primary schoolkids – could have been kidnapped *off the street right here at home* and face a situation where their captors said “read this statement on camera or we do x y and z to you” (or, and this is perfectly possible, we do x y and z to this terrified toddler here, that we captured at the same time), needs to think about a range of little signals – whether tiny nonverbal gestures, or a blandly-innocuous code word or sound (e.g. a stutter, or three little coughs) – that they can give when reading their “lesson”, so as to signal to the in-the-know viewer / hearer that “this is all bloody BS, I’m saying it under compulsion to save someone *else* from being tortured, and I don’t believe a word of it”.

Soldiers, journalists and diplomats *must* do this.

This post right here is 100% correct.

Does anybody remember that US Naval Aviator in Vietnam who used morse code blinking to spell the word “torture” when he was filmed for a NVA propaganda video? I do.

”I *don’t* think a lot of these victims realize how savage Islam is. I imagine a lot of them think they might be spared if they cooperate.”

With respect, graven, I don’t think this can be fairly said of Cantlie.

I certainly agree with you that we should be angry about the IS kidnapping journalists, whatever their views might be, and starry eyed aid workers, and I am indeed, very angry about it.

Having said that, however, Cantlie is *not* a starry eyed victim, in the sense of naively not ”realising how savage islam is”.

As I noted in my previous posts, Cantlie had been kidnapped, and shot, in Syria before. He had ample opportunities for seeing and realising, **exactly** how savage islam is. Nevertheless, he deliberately *chose* to return, and unless he is a complete fool, which I don’t think he is, at all, he **must** have realised there was every likelihood he would again be taken hostage, and more than likely used, as the IS is using him.

People must take responsibility for their own **informed** actions, and in Cantlie’s case, I think he knew very well the dangers he was deliberately placing himself in, even if he didn’t expect he would be used in this way.

It hasn’t been considered newsworthy by the Enemedia, The Christians who were murdered for refusing to convert. They live there, they belong there and they have done nothing to provoke the homicidal maniacs and it goes unnoticed or appreciated for the supreme act of courage and conviction that they have made for Christianity. They are the ones who need to be given a fighting chance. Every time barrack hussein speaks on the subject his emphasis is that ISIS is killing muslims. I find him in contempt of humanity.

“Over the next few programmes I am going to show you the truth as the Western media tries to drag the public back to the abyss of another war with the Islamic State”.

The thing is, sheik Hussein already stated the US is not going to war with the IS.

Peace, Mr Cantlie, but on whose terms ?
I would certainly care not to be in your position and your words confirm
what most of us here think, namely you can never negotiate with people
practice terror. Never having looked at any of the previous videos I can only hope the knife is sharp enough for a quick kill, but that implies a humane, civilised view
    of life.

      ……………………………

Surely you aren’t suggesting that beheading innocent journalists and aid workers is “humane [and] civilized” as long as the slaughtering knife is kept sharp?

    To Gravinimage.
Apologies. Not at all. I was thinking of another post where a muslim woman posted words to the effect , Christians will now know what it is like to be beheaded with a blunt knife.
I am truely horrified as to Mr Cantlie’ s fate, but given the record of the IS with its sadistic outlook I expect the worst.
